While they might be a bit skewed by Sunday's 24-0 debacle, the numbers say the Eagles' offense has struggled mightily in the two losses against Dallas when compared to the other 14 games.
Consider:
* The Eagles averaged 8 points per game in the two games against Dallas; 29.5 in their other 14 games.
* The Eagles averaged 262.5 net yards vs. Dallas; 371.5 in the other 14 games.
* The Eagles averaged 62.5 rushing yards and 200 passing against Dallas; 108 and 263.5 in their other 14 games.
"Putting points on the board is my responsibility," offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg said today. "I take that very seriously."
The Cowboys have "one of the very best fronts in the league," he said. "Excellent cover guys, linebackers have great instincts and are fast. They're very good against the run, can rush the passer, and they cover. That's a pretty good combination."
Mornhinweg said sustained drives will be the Eagles' focus after numerous three-and-outs Sunday.
He also said, "I think we'll be better" after game action and practice time getting used to the shuffled offensive line with Nick Cole at center and Max-Jean Gilles at right guard.
TALKIN' 'BOUT PRACTICE
DeSean Jackson again practiced, showing no ill effects of his Sunday groin tweak. (Between tweeting and tweaking, he's had quite the week.) Everyone was listed as a full participant in a shortened workout. Partly because it's a short week at the end of a long season, the coaching staff obviously feels the key work is going to be done in meeting rooms, not on the practice field
McDERMOTT ON THE BLITZ
Defensive coordinator Sean McDermott said he "backed off a little bit" on blitzing after getting burned on a big run early. "[We] should not have done that."
"They won the one-on-one battles," he said. "We're going to look to change that this week."
The defense continues to face the challenge of shuffling players, especially at linebacker.
"You never want to have guys moving in and out of different positions, but you're forced to" by circumstance," he said.
SEATTLE AND HECKERT?
Cleveland is reportedly not the only team interested in Eagles general manager Tom Heckert.
Seattle has requested permission to speak with Heckert, ESPN's John Clayton reported. That report was confirmed to your Eagletarian by a league source.
Heckert is in Cleveland today to interview with new Browns president Mike Holmgren.
It wasn’t immediately clear what sort of decision-making power would be included in the position Heckert is interviewing for with the Browns. A source said Heckert won’t take the job if he doesn’t have final say over personnel, except perhaps the identity of the head coach.
Though Heckert has the GM title here, Andy Reid has final say over personnel. Given that Holmgren’s role apparently encompasses a lot of what team president Joe Banner does for the Eagles, it isn’t inconceivable that Heckert might find more latitude in Cleveland.
Heckert's contract is up after next season and he has yet to be extended -- although Reid has been -- so he could be looking to move before he becomes a lame duck. Joe Banner protege Howie Roseman is expected to replace Heckert at some point.
LOOKING AHEAD
In case you are looking ahead to an Eagles victory, the Birds would visit New Orleans on Saturday, Jan. 16 at 4:30 p.m. (Fox) in the divisional round.
As the No. 6 seed, the Eagles would travel to the No. 1 seed if they won.
mornhinweg is an idiot. i don't trust a guy that chose to kick after winning the OT coin toss to run an offense. eagles84
eagles84: You make a fair point. But some guys are much better coordinators or assistants than head coaches. Marty seems to be one of those types. PhillyHouse JayDuce
I am a huge detractor of MARTY... but apparently some teams are planning to give him a Coaching position again based on what he was able to do with Eagles Rookies. Sometimes we do miss out the forest from the trees. Seed
MARTY was not responsible for the loss against Cows. When your opponent run 180 yards on you, it eats up the clock and takes away the option to be BALANCED and you have to depend on your strength, the pass game in this case. Passing execution was horribles from all sides and run game did not have much chance as Cows ate the clock up with run game. Seed
Wait, let me get this straight eagles84, you are blasting a guy who was at the controls for the most points scored in a season in franchise history? Eclipsing the record that the team set last year (also under Marty) And he did all that with a 2nd string offensive line most of the year, and an injury to his star RB, and rookies at RB and WR....Wow, your standards are high! I would hate to work for you. Dude, it was ONE BAD GAME! One really bad game, but it happens. Tuck3
Appreciate that Marty manned-up and took some blame for lousy offensive performance against Cowboys. McNabb would be a world-beater IF he had the some style offense as Romo and could rely on Barber-Jones-Choice. The WCO-voodoo offense is a mandate from Lurie & Reid. Reid has never chosen to develop a ground game. Eagles and McNabb fall short as result...Y'all do recall the 200+ yard game Duce Staley had against Dallas for Reid---Andy missed the significance. While on the subject of Eagles former OCs as HCs--what do you all make of Brad Childress? Glad to note that Childress isn't afraid to run the football--more now than he did in Philly...I suspect that Mornhinweg might run a different offense if left ot devise it himself--and it might be better than Andy Reid's... The eagles will get stomped 31-10 and Dallas is going to win the Superbowl. You heard it here--GUARANTEED! acroos21

lets all be honest, marty doesnt do much... he was a complete failure as a head coach. if he is the one who actually creates the game-plans and calls the plays, then he is an idiot for passing way too much with an inaccurate qb. you can beat bad teams in the the reg. season by passing and passing some more, but not good teams in the playoffs Fire Andy Reid
hey ahole21 go crawl back uder the rock you came from!!! Birds will advance Guarenteed. PhillyNH

Why would you hire anyone who used to be an assistant in Detroit,if you want to win a Super Bowl? MJOLLNIR HAMMER
Hey man, they were holding back for the playoffs - westbrook getting used to getting hit again - they'll be fine. I am amused by the "they're idiots!" when hey, we're in the playoffs. I'm glad we have something to watch Sat night. life's too short - enjoy tnphil
It's official,Jeffrey Lurie has adopted,Donovan McNabb and Michael Vick, and will immeadiately go into production of his new reality series "DIFFERENT STROKERS". MJOLLNIR HAMMER
Run the "WILDCAT" without McLaser arm every play. MJOLLNIR HAMMER
Just went to the Post Office to pick up some stamps,I gaze over to the one wall that has pictures of the FBI's most wanted, and guess who's mugs staring down at me with those "I"LL NEVER FALL ASLEEP,HOW BOUT YOU?,EYES".Yep,you guessed it the Eagle's current Offensive Coordinator. MJOLLNIR HAMMER
The Eagles go as far as McNabb will take them. The coaches put you in a position to win but they don't take the field. It's all on the players and the key player for the Eagles just does not have what it takes to win the Superbowl. McNabb's issues are not a lack of talent but a lack of mentality. He has all the talent in the world. He just does not have the mentality to learn from his mistakes and get better. From him, you see the same type of rookie mistakes over and over again, bad decisions, poor footwork, rushed passes, poor clock management, immaturity on the field. This sort of limitation is very frustrating to watch because it is something that a mature adult who commits to learning and getting better should overcome. Which is why I say, I would rather watch a less talented Kolb lead the team. At least he will give you everything he has got and will learn from his mistakes. Fritz and Alice- acroos21 - with what sort of odds and how many tens of thousands of dollars are you willing to back that guarantee? raoool
The Eagles offense can and will improve once the coaching staff commits to A RUNNING Game. I look at Bennie Wells(ARIZONA), Green(NY jets) Knoshawn(Denver) and I see them doing well and making an IMPACT, I wanted us to pick any one of those guys especially Wells and Knoshawn over McCoy, because they are a little bit bigger and more physical, but then I think even if we did pick them they wouldn't do much here, because the coaching staff don't believe in RUNNING the football. In The NFC East you have to be able to RUN the ball. Anguilla Al
Philly 10 you freakin biggot; MARTY is the problem...I think McNabb has been more of a winner than Marty McLoser; remember he was the coach that really ran Detroit into the ground and McNabb has earned professional accolades....look at the expression of Marty McLoser-he looks like a deer in headlights...; PS....perhaps Heckert needs to focus on finishing out THIS season since we are blame gaming... RoastedBird
Given the psychology of the game in Dallas; even if the officials decide to do their job and call all the holding against Dallas (which they never do) it won't make a difference because that would psyche the Birds out so bad they would totally lose their focus and the game. I won't bother watching. I'll be taking my wife out to eat and forget about the game altogether to celebrate her cousin's birthday. Whoever takes on Dallas in the next round will give them what they deserve. Somebody will take out Romo and that will be that. wonderbear

Own the line of scrimmage and catch the ball! LoveMeSomeIggles
Based on the offense's pitiful performance in the two Dallas games this year, does anyone really think we have a chance on Sat? Come on. I was at both of the games. We cannot run the ball against Dallas, that is clear. And even if our receivers do something they couldn't in the first two games - get open - McNabb cannot get them the ball. We beat one team with a winning record all year. We lost to Oakland for God's sake and didn't even score a touchdown. It's over. Just hope it's not another embarrassment. We had a nice run, but it's time to reload and give another qb a shot. DallasEagle
Andy: "It's my responsibility!" Donovan: "It's MY responsibility!" Marty: "No, no...it's MY responsibility!" Congratulations, fellows; you're the absolute Gold Standard when it comes to responsibility! dasher

The proof is still in the Girls hands. Yes they are good but have not won a playoff game since 1996. Last week meant nothing. Lets see what they do this week. Reid has never lost a first round playoff game. Teams outside of Dallas have a .706 winning percentage when attempting to beat a team for the third time in one season, yet the Cowboys are 0-2. flabird1954- The Eagles will get them next year....the road begins Sunday. Remember when the Eagles could not beat the Giants at the beginning of last decade? They will turn it around. road515
