Safety First: Birds Confirm Moves

The Eagles have finally gotten around to announcing what was reported last night, that they have signed safety Colt Anderson off the Vikings practice squad, realeasing RB Joique Bell from the roster and DE Pannel Egboh from the practice squad, where Bell presumably is bound, if no one picks him up.

The Eagles have been carrying only three safeties, and head coach Andy Reid said Monday that Nate Allen is unlikely to be available this week at Washington with a neck injury.

"They just felt like now was the time to get me and make sure I'm there," Anderson told the Montana Standard, his hometown paper. "I'm really excited. I'm excited to get out on the field and prove myself.

It's pretty wild how fast things can change. Monday Night Football; I'm excited for that one."

Agent Ken Staninger said Anderson signed a 3-year deal with the Eagles.

Anderson left Minneapolis after he accepted the deal around noon Tuesday and flew to Philadelphia. He is expected to be in the practice field Thursday when the Eagles begin preparations for the Redskins.

Anderson left Montana as the fifth-leading tackler in school history and signed with the Vikings. He was cut at the end of the preseason and spent the season on the practice squad. The same thing happened again this fall.

"The Eagles wanted to sign him to their practice squad this year when the Vikings cut him," said Staninger. "He said, ‘No, I'll stay loyal and give the Vikings one more year.'

"Then the Eagles called this morning, and they'd had another injury, were shorthanded, and wanted help on special teams. The Vikings - they haven't promised anything, but they've said all along they loved Colt and wanted to keep him. Maybe it was time to move on."

Bell joined the Eagles Sept. 21 from the Bills' practice squad. Lately, Chad Hall, brought up from the Eagles' practice squad Oct. 9, has moved ahead of Bell. So Hall's roster spot seems secure, for now.
