Round 1: Thumbs up, thumbs down

Thumbs Up

Browns: Browns need a difference-making wide receiver and Julio Jones was sitting there for them. But it’s hard to fault them for trading away the selection for the 6-pick king’s ransom the Falcons gave them. They received Atlanta’s first- (No. 27), second- (59) and fourth-round (124) picks in this draft, as well as first- and fourth-round picks next year. Then they traded back up from 27 to 21 and still got a good player in defensive tackle Phil Taylor.

Lions: Defensive tackle Nick Fairley slid to the Lions at 13 and they gladly scooped him up. With this kid lining up next to NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year Ndamukong Suh, Lions are going to be a nightmare for opposing centers and guards, not to mention running backs and quarterbacks.

Redskins: Since Dan Snyder bought the Redskins, they’ve been a team capable of screwing up a one-car funeral. But they made all the right moves last night, trading down out of the eighth spot for extra picks, then still grabbing one of the draft’s top pass-rusher’s, Ryan Kerrigan, at 15. With Kerrigan on one side and Brian Orakpo on the other, the ‘Skins are going to be tough to scheme against next season.

Giants: I’m not quite sure why cornerback Prince Amukamara slid as far as he did. But he did and the Giants got a bargain at 19. He’s going to flourish behind the Giants’ pass-rush.

Thumbs Down

Broncos: Took linebacker Von Miller with the second overall pick ahead of defensive tackle Marcell Dareus and cornerback Patrick Peterson. Miller is the best pure edge-rusher in the draft, but seems a better fit as a rush linebacker in a 3-4 scheme than the 4-3 coach John Fox is switching to.

Titans: There’s no question they need quarterback help. But Jake Locker at No. 8? The kid’s a project with major, major accuracy issues. It’s going to be a couple of years before he’s ready to compete for a starting job.

Panthers: I’m not suggesting Cam Newton is going to be a JaMarcus Russell-sized bust, but I would’ve felt a lot more comfortable taking this kid at 15 or 20 rather than No. 1.

Like to see Eagles trade Kevin Kolb to Cardinals for Peterson. Looks like the Birds have found a dance partner with the 49ers -Kolb for Aldon Smith.

I'd like to see that too, I just can't see them doing it. A shut down corner? The only thing I can think is we have to send them Kolb and Watkins and then are we getting value?

I would’ve felt a lot more comfortable taking this kid at 15 or 20 rather than No. 1. - that makes no sense at all. If you are taking a QB anywhere 1-15 it is because you believe that he will become a franchise QB. Only a loser would make a statement like that.

ppl that don't understand football will think this was a bad pick for the Eagles. They are wrong. This is a great pick, BIG, athletic, versatile, tough and driven. To top it off, intelligent, classy & respectful. PLUS, it filled a need. Some great CBs still on the board.

Trade Kolb and DeSean Jackson to Arizona for Larry Fitzgerald. Fitz hasn't resigned with Arizona and voiced his desire to play with a good qb. Jackson is a talent, but his antics will hurt him down the line. Let him be Arizona's problem when he becomes a bigger problem child.

I usually back Reid but this was an awful pick. We got bullied into it by the Seahawks at 25. They were taking Watkins so we decided we had to as well. You can get guards in the second or third round. Cirimi is a guard if you had to have one, but he could also play tackle. I understand passing on Smith, we don't need the trouble, and there are other DBs out there. But Cam Jordan, stud, Gabe Crimi, stud. I could have duplicated this guys skill set in rounds 3-4-5, his character, and shaved 4 years off his age. Disastrous pick. I can't believe we made it. If the players in the first round I didn't want, other than Ponder, this guy was number one.

The problem with the pick is that the kid is 26 and will be 27 in November. A cancelled season is more likely than unlikely,so lets say no season then he will be 28 mid way through his rookie year. So we get the kid maybe for 3 years with the normal track record of the Eagles and players over 30. Yes it filled a need but most people felt the greater need was on defense. BUt again who knows lets hope it all works out

Considering our needs, I don't really understand how we could pass on a quality CB with this pick. Very dissapointing, very discouraging.

wake up all Eagles fans...... many more moves before season starts. expect big moves when FA starts and value they receive for Kolb will be high. also trust Mudd and Washburn to develope the players so they will play at a higher level. picks in rd 2 3 4 4 5 5 7 7 7 still to come. KEEP THE FAITH EAGLES FANS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry King, but the talented CB's are now off the board. I'm hoping we are going to trade Kolb for Peterson in AZ, but they would be getting ripped off in that deal...

I think that picking Watkins was a mistake. I don't usually second guess 'professional' coaches and mgt. but I think that the Eagles first need was a 'blind side' "tackle" not a guard. Guards main responsibility is for the run not pass protection. The Eagles had one of the highest statistical rushing offenses in the league last year! In my humble opinion the Eagles should have taken Gabe Carimi or Derek Sherrod!I sure hope they pick a good shut down corner and get lucky and find a solid linebacker! Those are my next 3 priority picks!
