Kolb Trade Official; Ex-Card Says DRC Great Pickup

After a whole bunch of waiting, it is what we thought it was, to mangle a paraphrase from former Cardinals coach Denny Green.
The Eagles have confirmed that the trade of Kevin Kolb to the Cardinals is happening, for corner Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and a second-round pick. ESPN 97.5 radio reporter Adam Caplan says Kolb has agreed to a $63 million contract extension with Arizona, over 5 years, about $20 million guaranteed.
Eagles corner-kick returner Jorrick Calvin was a Cardinals rookie last year, before being traded to the Eagles Aug. 30 Rodgers-Cromartie recently mentioned Calvin as his only friend on the Eagles. Calvin was happy to hear the trade confirmed.
"That's my dude!" Calvin said. "Real good guy, real good person ... He brings a lot of speed, real good coverage ability, (he's) a lockdown corner.
"He took me under his wing when I got to Arizona, he taught me a lot of things at corner, taught me how to be a good pro -- making good decisions, on and off the field. That was one of the guys I really looked up to in Arizona."
Rodgers-Cromartie, anointed last night by Andy Reid as the right side starter though he has primarily played the left for the Cards, will have to learn Juan Castillo's defense on the fly.
"He's a real smart guy at corner," Calvin said. "It will be no problem for him to come in and learn the defense."
Observers were starting to compare the Kolb trade talks to Congress's debates on the debt ceiling.
"I think process takes a long time, whatever you do," Eagles general manager Howie Roseman said, when asked about the negotiations. "You want to make sure that you're exploring all options for your team and getting the best possible outcome for both sides."
"It's a busy time, We're constantly looking at options and evaluating options. We're not done," Roseman said. He didn't want to talk about other possible moves, but you have to think if Vince Young is being released, as reported, the Eagles would have interest as a backup. Running back Darren Sproles and lionebacker Stephen Tulloch also have been linked to the Birds.
Kolb, drafted in the second round in 2007, a year ago was opening camp as the designated successor to Donovan McNabb. But he suffered a concussion in the season opener and lost the job to Michael Vick.
Reports about a Kolb trade involving Rodgers-Cromartie began to surface before the 2011 draft in April, at a time when the lockout prevented teams from trading players. Trades were allowed starting Tuesday morning, and fans grew frustrated that Kolb hadn't been dealt. But the Cardinals probably did not want to part unconditonally with a second-round pick, a pretty prized commodity in the NFL. The Eagles probably had to do some squeezing.

Also today, the Eagles have placed Brandon Graham and Winston Justice on the physically unable to perform list for the start of camp. Asante Samuel and Jeremy Maclin were excused from reporting and practicing today for personal reasons.
Corner Trevard Lindley and left tackle Jason Peters left the afternoon practice early. Peters was sweating profusely.
kolb needs to arrested for robbery - 63 mil... lol reediebee
if i'm not mistaken, Banner, Roseman and co spend more team $$ than over half of their counterparts in nfl. so what is it w/this petty personal attack b.s.? if u wanna tear down, why not start w/pathetic draft picking through the years. The big guy knows good running backs, good qb's and good kickers when he sees 'em. After that, he's batting less than .300 which sucks! gnarlyscuzz
"Observers were starting to compare the Kolb trade talks to Congress's debates on the debt ceiling." Really? They couldn't trade (and weren't supposed to be discussing trades with teams) due to the lockout until Tuesday. When has Congress ever gotten anything done in 48 hours? Give me a break. Philly needs more sports writers who have common sense and understand the game of football and less wannabe comedians.

most of you think that, what ever the eagles organization did, they are never wrong. well, where are the superbowl trophy, after 12 years. fairmount2010

this is a win win for both teams, however a franchise QB can lead a team to a SB and DRC cannot..KK could be the next Kurt Warner now that he has a chance to play without the stupid wildcat nonsense..Kolb and Fitz will be the best combo in football-book it..GO KK!!.....wolf. wolf 4
Kolb will be the Jayson Werth of the NFL. pedge
Have yet to see one apology from stupid 'fans' that panicked after the FIRST DAY saying that the Eagles blew a deal. Wrong again, as always, losers. goeagles87
I would love this trade if I were an Eagle's fan, but I'm a Cards' fan and I'm sick. A pro bowl CB with 4.29 speed and a 2nd round pick for a guy with 7 starts to his name and a career 60 QB rating? Reid will toughen up DRC. Just beat up on the Cowboys, Giants and Danny Snyder's Skins. We really don't know how this will pan out, but right now it looks a steal for the Eagles. CardiacKid
AR 'did it' sent a (second round pick-KK) for a first round pick(DRC) and a second round pick(player to come in draft) ; I like the math - AR scored BIG...THANKS AR...johnnyu john ullman
A good trade for both teams. Now Kevin Kolb will be able to show what he can do over a full season, and the Eagles will have both sides of the field covered by Asante and DRC. They still must be able to stop the run, however. The play of the linebackers will be crucial... Eagle_1960
Can't say the Eagles got robbed. I'm not convinced Kolb will be a starter in the NFL all that long, though he could prove me wrong. And I'm not convinced Rodgers-Cromartie is a great corner, though he is a starter. If the 2nd round pick is used well, the Eagles can't lose on this one. Kolb has a good agent if he got $63 million. He doesn't look like the next Kurt Warner. armchairGM
