Report card at the bye

POSTED: Tuesday, October 14, 2008, 3:45 PM

Each week in Birdwatch, the Daily News provides a report card for that day's Eagles game. But as any student or school teacher knows, those individual grades eventually add up.

The Eagles' ultimate report card says they are 3-3, heading into the bye week with the Atlanta Falcons looming on Oct. 26.

We thought the bye after six games would be a chance for some quick math to provide the Eagles' average in each category.

Oh Yeah, Goes to show the Cowboys want to win. We cut a player and gain a player I never heard of.

Our receivers may suck but two of them have been more productive than Roy Williams the savior of all of your hurts and worries.

Wanting to win and actually making good decisions to have that happen are two different things. The Cowboys got Anthony Spencer, we got Stewart Bradley and Kevin Kolb. Hows that working out? Remember that negadelphians? "oh, how could they help out the enemy?" Spencer has... 6 tackles this year. Bradley? - among the NFL leaders.

It is absolutely inexcusable to allow Roy Williams to go to the Cowboys. Remember what he did to the Eagles last year ???? All the teams in the division now have at least 1 reciever\tight end that the Eagles can't cover. He must have been too expensive for the Eagles. Reed etc were probably eating or sleeping when this occured. 2 weeks ago I predicted that this would happen to my friends. Unfortunately, I was right.

The passing data above stand out for me. DM has generally been pretty good at beating up on the so so teams, but he has a record of choking on big games. Part of the reason is that he is not a smart QB and complicated pass defense schemes have always confused him. I hope his bad habits like holding the ball too long, like a rookie, are not rubbing off on Kolb. Too bad Kolb doesn't have a Brett to follow.

Has anybody been really watching this team? Consistency is what is needed. This playing one quarter great and the next like chumps is what has to stop. How hard can that be to fix? Stop worrying about Dallas, that team is about to implode. Hey, that Pacman deal worked out nicely didn't it. Roy Williams will have T.O. doing sit-ups in the driveway in about two weeks. I'm sure Tank Johnson will do something stupid very shortly. Jerry Jones got Williams to cover up the Pacman disaster and with T.O. on the edge, this will push him over. Thanks Jerry, you’re my favorite Eagles fan. This team is averaging 28 points a game with two second string WR’s and without Westbrook and Andrews for two games. Let’s remember, we have a lot of very young guys starting on this team, they are going to get better (more consistent) with time. As bad as the third quarter looked in SF, they did come back in the forth and that is improvement. The same is happening with the defense. Lot’s of sacks, lots of turnovers, but stuffs the run one minute and nothing the next. Biggest problem is covering the tight end. We have young linebackers, they will get better. Come on Eagle Fans, try being positive just once, this will work. Hey, the Phillies are in the World Series anything can happen.
