Vick Ponders What Might Have Been

POSTED: Wednesday, November 17, 2010, 12:23 PM

In response to a question, Michael Vick acknowledged today that he wonders how his life and career might have been different, if he had been an Eagle from the beginning.

"I thought about that a couple days ago. You wonder why things happen. Things certainly happen for a reason. I just thought about that ... If I could have started my career here, where would I be? Would I have ended up in some of the things I got involved in?" said Vick, who played for the Falcons from 2001-2006, then went to prison and missed two complete seasons because of his role in a dogfighting operation. "You never know, but hey, you can't say that, you can only think about it and wonder and appreciate being in this position now.

"I can't say what we would have accomplished, but as far as my growth as a passer, it would have been expedited tremendously."

Andy Reid, meanwhile, is not worried about complacency amid all the accolades and acclaim coming Vick’s way.

Vick knows better than anyone that "you can be at the top of the mountain" one day, "at the bottom of the well" the next, Reid said today.

Vick agrees. Asked on his radio show in Virginia Beach on Tuesday night about the speed of the skill position players on the Eagles offense, Vick turned it into a comment about the players’ desire and commitment.

“We all have a desire to be great,” he said. “Everybody wants to win the Super Bowl, everybody wants to make the pro bowl. Everybody wants notoriety and recognition. That’s what brings out the best in the great players and the great teams.”

Today in the locker room Vick, deflected a question about the splash he made Monday night in Washington, and the talk of him becoming league MVP, into how fortunate he feels to have such tremendous coaches and teammates.

"It wasn't all me," Vick said. "I was just one of the guys who helped contribute."

Reid said Vick has been "like a sponge" trying out new concepts, accepting coaching.

As he did in the moments after the drubbing of Washington, Reid said it was not a perfect game and there are things the Eagles can learn from.

On other topics …

* Reid was asked about spitgate: "I know they're looking into that." He doesn't get into it, etc.

* On the injury front: Ernie Sims (ankle) will practice; Nate Allen (neck) will practice after missing Monday night’s game. Juqua Parker (hip) and LeSean McCoy (AC sprain) will get the day off to rest injuries. All should play. On McCoy, Reid said, he “should be OK in a day or so.”

Allen said: "I'm good to go."

* Ellis Hobbs is being eased back in at practice and should be ready but Dmitri Patterson remains the starter at cornerback. Hobbs could see some return duty.

* Reid said it is possible Max Jean-Gilles and Nick Cole could alternate at right guard against the Giants. They will split reps in practice.

This is like watching Allen Iverson during his 2001 MVP campaign. This is going to be a fun ride.

@Dr. Michael. It's not a case of truth. Everyone knows what happened in great detail. He's paid his dues and it's over for most of us. Feel free to blog about him on the SPCA website. It's the right place for your brand of "truth". We've moved on and focus on football.

@Dr. Michael - Like it or not Vick paid for his crime as determined by law and in this country, he gets to go back to his life afterward. I don't like what he did anymore than you but if you believe in our judicial system, you have to let go. He gets his second chance and has shown remorse repeatedly. If you are a Christian or religious man, than forgive him because he paid for his crime. If not, keep on hating but that hate only hurts you not Vick.

Dr. Michael-- your position is clear. You are bitter and have a grudge against someone. Where is your forgiveness? Enjoy the ride, whether you like it or not this man is on the path to lead us to the Superbowl. You can turn off your television and watch CSPAN and watch your boys preach on their high horse on Sunday if thats how you feel

In regards to Dr. Michael, what do you expect form a guy who, 30 times a day utters the phrase "Turn your head an cough..."

Doc Mike, if Vick does sign the big contract and if he does get arrested again, he is banned for life and I am pretty sure the Eagles will be off the hook for money owed to him. And everyone who hated the Vick signing who now love it will hate it again and the national media will rip us apart for signing him, despite the fact that they love the signing right now.

It's disgusting that skill in sports is more important than character and class. These are our children's role models. His promised to reach out about ending dogfighting is clearly bs when his own teammate, DeSean Jackson, makes a dogfighting comment about their performance. He's a thug and an ex-con. No FELON should be allowed to be emulated by our children. Be ashamed of how desperate you are fans, it's beyond low.

Just gotta love the pic of Vick pointing to the sky where his lord & saviour is, I assume he's thanking him for helping him win a game. Really? I guess his god wasn't there when he was bashing dogs skulls into the ground or drowning them or forcing them to kill each other. Nice god he prays to.

I am not envious or jealous of Vick. I don't care how much money he makes. I don't need to get laid. I know that he tortured and murdered animals. I know he is a sociopath. I know he has lied about his past in a futile attempt to somehow excuse his behavior. i know that people are only forgiving him because he is winning - if it didn't work out this well, he'd be the most hated man in the city. I respect people who aren't hypocrites. For those people, it is hard to like the Eagles and a superbowl win this year or any year with Vick would be tainted. Yes, he can play ball and yes, he is an awful human being.
