Vick Ponders What Might Have Been

POSTED: Wednesday, November 17, 2010, 12:23 PM

In response to a question, Michael Vick acknowledged today that he wonders how his life and career might have been different, if he had been an Eagle from the beginning.

"I thought about that a couple days ago. You wonder why things happen. Things certainly happen for a reason. I just thought about that ... If I could have started my career here, where would I be? Would I have ended up in some of the things I got involved in?" said Vick, who played for the Falcons from 2001-2006, then went to prison and missed two complete seasons because of his role in a dogfighting operation. "You never know, but hey, you can't say that, you can only think about it and wonder and appreciate being in this position now.

"I can't say what we would have accomplished, but as far as my growth as a passer, it would have been expedited tremendously."

Andy Reid, meanwhile, is not worried about complacency amid all the accolades and acclaim coming Vick’s way.

Vick knows better than anyone that "you can be at the top of the mountain" one day, "at the bottom of the well" the next, Reid said today.

Vick agrees. Asked on his radio show in Virginia Beach on Tuesday night about the speed of the skill position players on the Eagles offense, Vick turned it into a comment about the players’ desire and commitment.

“We all have a desire to be great,” he said. “Everybody wants to win the Super Bowl, everybody wants to make the pro bowl. Everybody wants notoriety and recognition. That’s what brings out the best in the great players and the great teams.”

Today in the locker room Vick, deflected a question about the splash he made Monday night in Washington, and the talk of him becoming league MVP, into how fortunate he feels to have such tremendous coaches and teammates.

"It wasn't all me," Vick said. "I was just one of the guys who helped contribute."

Reid said Vick has been "like a sponge" trying out new concepts, accepting coaching.

As he did in the moments after the drubbing of Washington, Reid said it was not a perfect game and there are things the Eagles can learn from.

On other topics …

* Reid was asked about spitgate: "I know they're looking into that." He doesn't get into it, etc.

* On the injury front: Ernie Sims (ankle) will practice; Nate Allen (neck) will practice after missing Monday night’s game. Juqua Parker (hip) and LeSean McCoy (AC sprain) will get the day off to rest injuries. All should play. On McCoy, Reid said, he “should be OK in a day or so.”

Allen said: "I'm good to go."

* Ellis Hobbs is being eased back in at practice and should be ready but Dmitri Patterson remains the starter at cornerback. Hobbs could see some return duty.

* Reid said it is possible Max Jean-Gilles and Nick Cole could alternate at right guard against the Giants. They will split reps in practice.

Once again, a clear demonstration that Vick has no remorse whatsoever about the dogs he tortured and killed. Why would the Eagles have made a difference? Is it that the Eagles are better at helping him hide all the bodies? Has anyone checked that he isn't back into his little doggy side business?

Vick is not a role model for my children. Neither is Lawrence Taylor, Dave Megget, Plaxico Burress, Ben Rothlesburger, Michael Irvin, Donte Stallworth, Ray Lewis, Rae Carruth, Jermaine Phillips, Lawrence Phillips, Shaun Phillips, Mark Fields, Shawne Merriman, Corey McIntire, Anthony Mix, Larry Johnson, Cornell Green, Charles Grant, Marshawn Lynch, Cedric Wilson, Chris Henry, Rocky Bernard, Pacman Jones, Fabian Washington, Lance Briggs, Jeremy Bridges, Nick Barnett, Claude Terrell, Lionel Gates, etc., etc., etc. Get it yet?

And if he had been born in China, where the recipe begins "Beat dog to death" so it tenderizes the meat, Vick might have been a celebrated chef! Life's funny. An animal-torturing convicted felon getting such adulation and so much money...clearly absolute proof that there is no god and no justice.

Hey, as long as we're talking about "what might have been," how about if Kolb had performed well against the Packers and not gotten hurt! Would we still be seeing Michael mostly standing on the sidelines?

It is not possible to murder an animal. Murder is a reference used when a HUMAN BEING kills another HUMAN BEING. Most people who reside in a rural area or the inner city can relate to Pit Bulls being fought. That does not make it right!!! But this is the great divide. People from the inner city & rural areas generally don't understand why this is SUCH a big deal??? They are Pit Bulls....DOGS!

I think that all of these so called animal lovers are an absolute joke. I hate Vick for what he did, blah, blah, blah. Look to your left and right people and then look into the mirror and I promise in one of those ares you will see somebody just as bad or worse than Vick. They just haven't been caught yet. Trust me, I've had plenty of dealings with peta, the spca and even the humane society and 80% of those people are complete whack jobs. Anybody that would stand around picketing while wearing their leather jackets or leather Dr. Martins are complete morons. The next time you take your family to the circus take just a minute to talk to 1 of these so called animal rights people and look at what they wear and listen to how off centered their ideals are. Vick is living the dream baby and it's eating these haters up. I would love to buy Mike a Pitbull to kick around for Christmas.

"In response to a question, Michael Vick acknowledged today that he wonders how his life and career might have been different, if he had been an Eagle from the beginning." There would be a lot more dead dogs in Philadelphia. And that many more dumb, classless Eagles fans to support him. Eagles' fans are the most classless in sports, and their rabid support of Vick just proves it.

dallen8wer: You really are a cold SOB it would seem. You dress up cruelty to animals in pale rationalizations and semantics.

I hate these people talking all this uselessness in these blogs. This is a football blog, not a human rights. If you wanna rant about how much you hate Vick, go do so somewhere where people wanna hear it like PETA or something. Bottom line is Vick is an unbelievable athlete and is playing QB better than anyone in the league. He's paid to score touchdowns not be the perfect citizen. Everyone makes mistakes and everyone usually gets a second chance. He's making the best of it and i'm sure he's learned his lesson. Now lets talk some football

These cowboy fans are trying to ruin the fun right now but it ain't gonna happen. They know how chickens are raised in cages so small they only have enough room to stick their necks through the bars to peck at the food. Not gonna stop them from chomping down on a crispy chicken sandwich. They have nothing to say about a cowboy jabbing spurs into the hind quarters of a horse or cow to make them jump. Nor do they care that horses are beat buy whips to make them run as fast as they can for a mile or more. All systematic torture. Done everyday. Allright, he killed some fighting pitbulls. What was he supposed to do, put an ad in the paper " free to good home."

Dr. Michael why do you need to come on here every day and spew your hatred? I suppose you consider yourself a conservative because only a liberal could root for Vick? Well as a registered republican I can say I believe in second chances and he really seems contrite and is making the most of his. You are a complete embarrement to true conservatives. We don't spew hatred 24/7 and come across with a holier than thou attitude. Man you are a LOSER. Get over yourself. It's not your job to educate people on what is moral. Beat it punk.
