Reid: Nicked Vick Might Not Be Ready Sunday, Regardless

POSTED: Wednesday, December 29, 2010, 12:17 PM

Eagles coach Andy Reid said at his day-after news conference that he hasn’t decided how much his starters would play against Dallas but did mention that quarterback Michael Vick’s injury could keep him on the sideline. Certainly, the fact that Vick is limping heavily would seem to indicate he might not play in a meaningless game, the Eagles locked into the third seed.

“I’m not even sure he could get back from what he has now, the quad [contusion],” Reid said. “It was painful yesterday and it as painful today. If he had to play today, he couldn't. It's tight, it's sore. He'll be all right down the road.

“As far as how we play the guys, I haven’t finalized that, what I’m going to do there. I’m looking at it now. I wanted to make sure we took care of this game and got it past us. You got to look at what’s at stake if you play them, injury-wise. Some guys need the play-time, some guys need the rest-time. I got to look at that. You still want to win the game. I still haven’t gotten that far. I will, right after this meeting.”

Reid also said that DeSean Jackson’s foot was “bothering him a little bit. He’ll have some work on that today.”

He also said that linebacker Stewart Bradley (elbow) will not play against Dallas but should be ready for the first round of the playoffs on Jan. 8-9. He said Jeff Owens has a torn patellar tendon and that Asante Samuel had an MRI on his sore knee.

It seemed quite possible that Reid was laying the groundwork for sitting all of those players against the Cowboys .

Reid continued to be show disappointment in his team’s 24-14 loss to the Vikings on Tuesday night. “We have no excuses for this game. Again, it’s my responsibility to get our team ready to play. A lot of guys were in today to see the tape. This was their day off.”

Reid said he didn't consider taking Vick out after the QB suffered the quad injury, on a first-play scramble up the left side for 14 yards. He said he figured Vick was OK "as long as he could move ... it didn't  look like he was hindered."

With an O Line that can't protect, Andy & Marty passing at their usual 70% clip and opponents who are bringing constant heat Vick is heading for an exit on the dreaded cart.

Isn't it amazing how half the fan base knows Reid was out-coached and subjected his qb to an all out "kill the qb" assault. Of course he doesn't have to listen to us, but surely somebody in that locker room has to know how his obsession with shotgun passing and striking downfield cost him the game, a chance for a bye and almost his starting qb. One play epitomized his hubris and turned the game around.

why do people complain when AR says "it my fault for not having the players ready" he actually takes the blame off the players instead of publicly outcasting them. How many other coaches actually do that? very few if any. Instead of blaming someone else, he says yea its on me DEAL WITH IT. Thats what good leaders do. some people are just too stupid to realize it

A good coach does not go into battle with a game plan to get his troops killed. He makes sure he has a plan to win and leaders around him to make them work. So much for his offense and defensive leaders.

Andy Reid is every bit as overrated as Eli Manning. Yeah I said it!

We'd be better off if Reid wasn't able to coach this week or ever again.

bigtime-gmenfan, I agree! People get upset when Vick throws 1 pick and Eli leads the league in picks. He averages 3 or 4 a game.

Why not use the little screen pass to stop that rush? I didn't see it all night.

What if?: Kolb plays for the injured Vick. Stays in the pocket and is able to slide away from the blitz. Completes passes down field to the second or third receiver in the rotation. Kolb wins the game with impressive stats playing with second stringers, and, leads the Birds into the playoffs. Just a little football fantasy.

No joke. These Eagle fans don't understand how QB is supposed to be played. Blitzing opens up passing for a pro QB, but the QB isn't going to make them pay if he immediately pulls the ball down and leaves the pocket.

Wait, Get Kolb warmed up! You better get Mike Kafka warmed up with how this line has been protecting the QB.

I've been saying basically the same thing all year: While I am happy and excited to see us winning games, it is because our QB has gifts, and our skill players utilize them to score lots of points. We only have two players worth a damn on the O-line, the "D" is borderline pathetic, and keeps NO ONE off the board when they hit the red zone. I'm afraid the only weak defense in the playoffs will be ours. And also unfortunately, our draft position just took a hit because we'll be picking around 22nd or 23rd. And our last two top picks are on IR. We are OFFICIALLY in a pickle regarding getting new talent. I have no clue how this team will get better next year. OH WAIT!!...Yes I DO!....Andy will put them in better places to succeed.

I dont believe 1 game should make us in panic mode but the defense has been atrocious all season and Andy Reid been calling bad plays for 12 11 years!! Time to change the coach next year and get some better defensive players!!!!!

wow Andy uhh he "didnt look hampered ?" wtf ?? Reid is an idiot that is obsessed with the pass os much so that he has called the most lopsided all pass playcalling in NFL HISTORY...and IT DOES NOW WIN CHAMPIONSHIONS WHEN YOU ARE THAT UNBALANCED TO THE POINT OF LAUGHABLE PREDICTABILITY. IT WILL NOT HAPPEN. wow, Andy, umm maybe instead of making your MVP QB drop back 56 TIMES in a game you were up 7-0 at home, maybe "spread the ball around" to your RUNNING BACKS ?? like that power back that got 0 CARRIES on your roster or your 1,000 yard rusher McCOy who only touched it 13 times and Vick was running around 56 TIMES. COMPLETE STUPIDITY. REID WILL NEVER WIN A SB. EVER.
