Reid: Nicked Vick Might Not Be Ready Sunday, Regardless
Eagles coach Andy Reid said at his day-after news conference that he hasn’t decided how much his starters would play against Dallas but did mention that quarterback Michael Vick’s injury could keep him on the sideline. Certainly, the fact that Vick is limping heavily would seem to indicate he might not play in a meaningless game, the Eagles locked into the third seed.
“I’m not even sure he could get back from what he has now, the quad [contusion],” Reid said. “It was painful yesterday and it as painful today. If he had to play today, he couldn't. It's tight, it's sore. He'll be all right down the road.
“As far as how we play the guys, I haven’t finalized that, what I’m going to do there. I’m looking at it now. I wanted to make sure we took care of this game and got it past us. You got to look at what’s at stake if you play them, injury-wise. Some guys need the play-time, some guys need the rest-time. I got to look at that. You still want to win the game. I still haven’t gotten that far. I will, right after this meeting.”
Reid also said that DeSean Jackson’s foot was “bothering him a little bit. He’ll have some work on that today.”
He also said that linebacker Stewart Bradley (elbow) will not play against Dallas but should be ready for the first round of the playoffs on Jan. 8-9. He said Jeff Owens has a torn patellar tendon and that Asante Samuel had an MRI on his sore knee.
It seemed quite possible that Reid was laying the groundwork for sitting all of those players against the Cowboys .
Reid continued to be show disappointment in his team’s 24-14 loss to the Vikings on Tuesday night. “We have no excuses for this game. Again, it’s my responsibility to get our team ready to play. A lot of guys were in today to see the tape. This was their day off.”
Reid said he didn't consider taking Vick out after the QB suffered the quad injury, on a first-play scramble up the left side for 14 yards. He said he figured Vick was OK "as long as he could move ... it didn't look like he was hindered."

Sit Michael Vick on Sunday. Let Kolb knock some rust off, just in case we need him in the playoffs, and for God's sake, please get some players who can protect the QB, and play defense.(Julius Peppers)....the Viking ran ruffshod oever the Eagles, getting to the QB....protect him........ philligrl- people tend to forget that our defenses were the real reason why we were so successful those years with mcnabb. this defense isnt half as good. its been something that has worried me since jim johnson died. we need a new d coordinator and some better talent.
- Phil MeNuggets Jim Johnson himself would be hardpressed to get anything out of this defense. 7 of his starters right now were either undrafted or 7th round picks, hardly any NFL experience from top to bottom, including two of the most critical positions (MLB, FS). You can't make filet mignon out of roadkill, can't dismiss him till he gets some actual players. Besides, wasn't JJ's mantra always 'hold em to 17 points and we'll win'?
- i totally agree that we need better talent on defense. TOTALLY AGREE. ok, i'll give sean one more year to prove something to me. but having the last ranked defense in the redzone regardless of who's out there is really, really bad
- They did hold the Vikes offense to 17 points. This loss was on the pathetic play of the o-line. With that said, people seem to forget this team is still very young and lacks experience. Nobody really expected them to win the division or make the playoffs. With some o-line help in the draft, I can see them making some serious noise next year.
phillychaos - unfortunately they can't rest all of the starters - some of them will have to play, as well as key role players. Celek will probably have to play (in 2 TE sets to protect Kolb), Parker will have to play some and Tapp will have to play a lot, Patterson or Dixon will have to play some (especially with Owens done), Owen Schmitt will play some, one of the O-line will have to play (probably Giles), the LBs should all play just for the experience, and Coleman will have to play some. Hopefully none of them get injured or dinged up.
I'm getting pretty sick of hearing every year how Reid has to do a better job at preparing his team to play after another key loss to a vastly inferior team. Reid is a failure. Blankman
HOW MANY TIMES DO WE HAVE HEAR THAT "IT'S MY FAULT
FOR NOT PREPARING MY TEAM TO PLAY" frank martino
None of the starters who are hurt even a bit should play. The team will get whacked again and the coach and GM better evaluate Sean M because he should not be back. The D will have to be overhauled after the Eagles lose the first PO game. They will have time to see who to trade, drop and pick in the Draft. It now seems that they will have to pick all,all D choices just to keep on the field . This team was told by Sean games ago that 17 pts. was the amount they could give up. It seems now that number is near 26 pts a game and that will not win many games if Vick cannot run and Dejean cannot run and catch. Vick played as well being hurt as he could but the D and the lack of blocking killed the team. They should all be ashamed. Koons
Well Andy, you tried your very best to get him killed with the pathetic playcalling. You just refuse to run and everybody, especially the Vikings last night knew that.
This is why we won't go very far in the playoffs. Same thing you did to McNabb. qbphillyfan
Vick, McCoy, and DJax should not even touch the field! IanG
As disappointing as this loss was, we forget that this was a rebuilding year, in which little was expected (how many here were picking 6-10 or 7-9?), and that the process was to continue with this offseason to build a contender. That the Eagles are in the playoffs with a home game, given their well-known weaknesses at the beginning of the season that are still showing, and on top of a huge injury list on the defensive side, is a plus. You still hope they can grab for the brass ring in a down year for the NFC, but this year showed us that, given good moves, this team will be a strong contender in 2011, assuming there is a season. DDiceRC- Couldn't have said it better myself. Basically the offensive skill position players on this team carried them to their playoff status, and many of us ignored how bad the defense is, and how inconsistent the O-Line is. You never know what can happen in the playoffs, but I'm not expecting Super Bowl this year. Next year, though, if they can get a few more players on D and a solid offensive line, this team will be practically unstoppable.
