Reid: Westbrook 'in a good place'

POSTED: Wednesday, November 18, 2009, 11:56 AM

Eagles coach Andy Reid said Brian Westbrook was undergoing testing in Pittsburgh for his concussions "as we speak" during his morning news conference. "We'll know more on him the next day or two," Reid said.

Reid said Westbrook "didn't seem rattled" when Reid spoke with him Monday. "He was in a good place."

In case there was any doubt, Westbrook will not play Sunday against Chicago.

Westbrook suffered his second concussion in three weeks when he was sandwiched on a screen pass against San Diego. He previously was concussed against Washington and then missed the next two games.

Reid mentioned fullback Leonard Weaver as part of the reason why he didn't feel he needed to make a roster move. The Eagles have rookie LeSean McCoy, Eldra Buckley and recently signed P.J. Hill behind Westbrook, although Hill has not been active since signing with the team.

Reid said McCoy has played better when he got more of the reps during the week in practice. That is the case this week.

Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb said several players who are playing despite repeated concussions. "It's a scary decision you have to make; that's why you go see the specialist," he said.

"I look for him to be back," McNabb said, though "whatever decision Brian makes will be the best decision for him.

"It's out of Brian's hands, it's in God's hands."

In other injury news, Macho Harris is out today with an eye infection, although that is deemed to be not a big deal.

Sheldon Brown is "doing better" with his hamstring injury, Reid said, but he won't practice.

Akeem Jordan (hyperextended knee) and Quintin Demps (high ankle sprain) also will not practice. Kevin Curtis, recovering from knee surgery, is out against Chicago.

Jason Peters will practice today after sitting out against the Chargers with an ankle injury.

PJ Hill was active the first week he was signed by the Eagles (Giants game). I saw him in pre-game warmups.

I really like the bench support for running the ball...NOW RUN THE BALL, please! Good luck to B-West...I hope he retires and saves himself.

Like someone mentioned, "in a good place" usually refers to someone who's dead. Westbrook is done.

Retire Brian....You gave your all.....but mangement does not, so it is not worth it to play for an organization that is happy to be competative but not to win it all......Life is too short Brian....you need your brain for the future ....Thank YOU BWest.....

No one should be playing with concussions. Take care of yourself Brian Westbrook. Get healthy and think about coming back over the off-season.

WewantaSBRing you're an idiot. If McChoke could show up when we need him we'd have one.

Two concussions in a months times isn't career ending. It is concerning. Life is short and Westbrooke deserves to make his own choices. I doubt he can ever remember football not being his life, so hanging it up isn't going to be easy for him. To call it career ending at this point, is an overestimation of the injury. However, it is like any injury that can't be surgically repaired, he is more susceptible to future concussions. I hope he is peace with whatever decision is made.

Who really cares what his plans are (we all have our own lives)--we move ahead with what we have which is a QB who throws balls in the dirt, an O-Coordinator who throws the ball 70% of the time w/out the head coach telling him what needs to be done, a defense that cannot get off the field becasue our LB's are horrible and playing out of position and our secondary who I can't name the CB's anymore outside of Samuals. Season's over, 76ers are over...Let's go Flyers and Phillies in 4 mnths. Long, cold, brutal winter ahead!

The problem now is that even if West returns, he will definitely play with less intensity (even if he does it without even realizing it). He will be afraid of getting another concussion.
