Reid: 'Terrible, terrible job'; Vick: 'no excuses'

POSTED: Tuesday, December 28, 2010, 11:40 PM

Eagles coach Andy Reid pulled no punches after his team's shocking, 24-14 loss to the Minnesota Vikings on Tuesday night at Lincoln Financial Field.

"It was a pathetic job. It was a complete tail-whipping" Reid said. "Terrible, terrible job. It wasn’t only the players. It was the coaches. It was me. It was terrible, in every phase. It was terrible. The whole offense was awful.

"They [Vikings] came to play. We didn’t come to play. You gotta play, at all positions. You gotta play. [We had] penalties, missed assignments, too many people on the field, missed substitutions. Terrible. Absolutely terrible."

The loss locked the Eagles into the third seed in the NFC playoffs. They will host either the Giants, Bucs or Packers on Jan. 8 or 9.

Eagles quarterback Michael Vick suffered a quad contusion. "I hurt it on the first play of the game," he said in a postgame news conference. "I just tried to tolerate it throughout the game. I have a strong will to win and I tried to do anything. I just tried to get through it. It didn’t affect me. I’m not going to use it as an excuse. I didn’t come out of the game, so I guess it wasn’t severe.

"The fact that we can’t get that No. 2 seed. It’s disappointing. My hat is off to the Vikings. We're a much better football team than we displayed tonight. The leader of this team is the quarterback and I had two fumbles, two critical fumbles."

Vick was asked if he would rather play or rest in the season's final game, now meaningless, against Dallas. "I’m a competitor. I always want to play," Vick said. "Ultimately, it’s Andy’s decision. I’ll do whatever Andy wants me to do. Whatever the coach wants to do, I'll do."

About the fumbles, Vick said: "I have to do a better job of protecting the football. It’s still my responsibility to push up in the pocket, two hands on the ball, drills we do every day."

I don't think Andy's to blame. He did the best he could with what he had in Donovan, and then absorbed the blame when it wasn't all his to take. He did the same for Childress, and now he's doing it for McDermott and the O-Line. I hope it doesn't take 11 more years to move on.

The only reason they have so many "rushing yards" this season is because of you-know-who and I'm am certainly not talking about LeSean McCoy. He doesn't get it, he never will and he admits it! How many times does Lurie need to hear this jerk say he's not going to change?! Well, Andy, clearly your pass-first-and-for-80%-of-the-game hasn't gotten you much, huh??? RUN THE F**KING BALL!!!!!!

Sore Richard I cannot agree more with that assessment.
