Reid: 'Terrible, terrible job'; Vick: 'no excuses'

Eagles coach Andy Reid pulled no punches after his team's shocking, 24-14 loss to the Minnesota Vikings on Tuesday night at Lincoln Financial Field.

"It was a pathetic job. It was a complete tail-whipping" Reid said. "Terrible, terrible job. It wasn’t only the players. It was the coaches. It was me. It was terrible, in every phase. It was terrible. The whole offense was awful.

"They [Vikings] came to play. We didn’t come to play. You gotta play, at all positions. You gotta play. [We had] penalties, missed assignments, too many people on the field, missed substitutions. Terrible. Absolutely terrible."

The loss locked the Eagles into the third seed in the NFC playoffs. They will host either the Giants, Bucs or Packers on Jan. 8 or 9.

Eagles quarterback Michael Vick suffered a quad contusion. "I hurt it on the first play of the game," he said in a postgame news conference. "I just tried to tolerate it throughout the game. I have a strong will to win and I tried to do anything. I just tried to get through it. It didn’t affect me. I’m not going to use it as an excuse. I didn’t come out of the game, so I guess it wasn’t severe.

"The fact that we can’t get that No. 2 seed. It’s disappointing. My hat is off to the Vikings. We're a much better football team than we displayed tonight. The leader of this team is the quarterback and I had two fumbles, two critical fumbles."

Vick was asked if he would rather play or rest in the season's final game, now meaningless, against Dallas. "I’m a competitor. I always want to play," Vick said. "Ultimately, it’s Andy’s decision. I’ll do whatever Andy wants me to do. Whatever the coach wants to do, I'll do."

About the fumbles, Vick said: "I have to do a better job of protecting the football. It’s still my responsibility to push up in the pocket, two hands on the ball, drills we do every day."
