Reid: No decision on QB

After benching Donovan McNabb at halftime and watching Kevin Kolb suffer through a rough second half, Eagles coach Andy Reid now must decide who starts in four days, Thursday night against Arizona.
McNabb finished 8-for-18 for 73 yards with two interceptions and a fumble. Kevin Kolb was 10-for-23 for 59 yards with two interceptions.
The Eagles offense has now gone 99 minutes, 29 seconds since their last offensive touchdown, during the third quarter of last week's game against Cincinnati. They have now scored one offensive TD in 140:30.
After the game, Reid said he had not made a decision about the starter for Thursday.
"It is an understatement to say that was a poor offensive performance," Reid said. "It's not all about one guy. We're all going to sit here and point at Donovan. It's not all about Donovan. We saw that as the game went on ... This is not something that I have made any decision on, if Kevin is the starter or Donovan is the starter. We have a short week. I will think about it and we'll go from there."
Reid said he did not personally tell McNabb about the change and that he planned to talk to him after his news conference. He said McNabb was informed by the coaches.
Reid said a decision will be made by tomorrow. "We don't have a lot of time here."
The coach said he did not think McNabb's confidence will be affected by the benching.
"It's just something I thought that needed to be done at the time," Reid said.
"You sit back an inch and maybe you go forward a mile," Reid said. "I haven't made any decision there. I have to step back and look at it from another perspective. It's important that [Donovan] plays the way I know he can play and the guys around him do the same thing."
As for Kolb's performance, Reid said, "He did some good things, he has some things he needs to work on. That's not an easy thing to do."
After the game, Kolb said: “I don’t know what’s going to happen. I want to get better than today and there is a lot of room to improve … I am really disappointed in myself. I know I am a better quarterback than that … It’s crucial times that count as a quarterback and I did not get it done in crucial times.”

Should be an interesting Monday...I listened to the Radio Broadcast; Merrill and Mike were pretty honest about what was going on, and they added a some humor, which helped get me through the 3.5 hours of brutal football...Just curious, was Omar Gaither deactivated, or just benched? I didn't even see him for special teams. Still waiting for our Defense to get a TURNOVER! joedavola
I backed this move about the time Reid pulled it. Something had to be done. Now that we're clear it's not the quarterback that's the problem, I think Reid has to turn to the last act of desperation in his book: Swallow his pride and commit to running the football. D3Keith
bo jackson was a pretty good two sport player. It's time to look at the clutch guys. Sign up Cole Hamels or Lidge to QB this ship. J Roll for WR. The guys we have aren't cutting it, including the coach. I wonder if Charlie Manuel has any suggestions. He seems like he would be a running coach. The complete lack of a run game has hamstrung this team way too long. 46 and 2

Don't see ol Donnie laughing now! But, for what it's worth, I did see him yawning before the game TTwins
Lurie, when is a decision coming on Reid? Navyfaninatl
baller- then you are an idiot. Why are posting here anyway, since you are not (and obviously never have been) a fan. Apparently you missed the 4 NFC championship appearances and 1 Super Bowl appearance brought to you by Reid and McNabb. Reid- best coach in Eagles history. McNabb- best QB in Eagles history. If this is then end of an era- then it was a great era to be in. I will have a lot of fond memories, and it saddens me that they never won a championship. I truly hope this is not the start of a run of 3-13 type seasons, but I fear it is. libertyof76

I disagree with those who say the media is spineless. Ashley Fox has firmly stated that change is needed - both QB and coach. The system is broken (you can't dink and dunk forever) and the team is getting old, tired and injury prone. McNabb, Reid, Dawkins, Westbrook, Buckholter, Sheppard, Smith - thanks for the years you have given us but it is time to move on. Also, the same guys who year in and year out come to camp saying they are ready and then sputter and give way to injury or otherwise need to get committed to playing or retire. You are paid too much money to treat the fans with this kind of team. psuwelsh
