Reid takes responsibility for loss

POSTED: Thursday, December 1, 2011, 11:31 PM

SEATTLE -- Andy Reid offered his usual fare at his postgame news conference after the Eagles' 31-14 loss at Seattle tonight.

"Compliments to the Seahawks," Reid said. "Four turnovers, it's tough to win football game. We have to do a better job as a football team. It's my responsibility to get that done. I thought we played hard. We have to put them in posiion to make plays and they have to make plays."

Reid was asked if his players were playing hard. He scoffed at that suggestion.

"I have good guys," Reid said. "I can't complain about the effort or work ethic. I have to put them in better posiion to make plays."

Reid reported that special-teams ace Colt Anderson likely has a torn ACL and that Nnamdi Asomugha suffered a stinger and concussion.

How about us fans start doing a better job and stop buying merchandise and sell our tickets. Not calling a time out with a minute to go - 12 men on the field - how about Andy you do a better job and quit!

Revenue from merchandise sales is shared among the teams so that's a pretty empty threat.

Okay....AR needs to recognize that his team, and I use that word loosely, is not a team at all. That his consistent drone about being responsible should provide him with impetus to resign. No one can continuously say he does poorly and continue to have a job unless his bosses are equally inept. As much as I have followed the Eagles though thick and thin...I think it is time to watch a cooking program instead.

The punk, acted like the punk he is, again tonight.
How could you reward somebody like that with a big contract. Suspend him, reinstate him in a few weeks and play him, and if he still has'nt learned his lesson, suspend him again.
Then the last week of the season, release him. He will be somebody else's problem next year.

Shady Mccoy - You deserve to be on a better team. You are a special player and are destined for greatness if you ever carry the ball enough times like a real RB should.

Brian Dawkins - Every fiber of of our collective being wants the Broncos to win a super bowl this year. It probably won't happen but for everything you gave to us as an Eagle, we are rooting for you. #20 forever.

Andy Reid - Your act is old and tired. Without acknowledging how truly awful this team is performing, you are part of the problem and not part of the solution. We fans want you out. Leave our football team before you make it any worse than it already is.

What an ugly display. This is one disgusting season. Challenging a clear interception first play of the game. NOT utilizing McCoy as much as he should. Burning time outs b/c theres to many men on the field. This is a monster problem and Lurie MUST do something as soon as this season ends.

if you didnt want a four turnover game then you shouldnt have signed the DUMBEST QUARERBACK IN THE ENTIRE LEAGUE. THATS WHAT YOU GET WITH HIM. litterally the lowest wonderlic, not only for QB's but ALL PLAYERS. he cant figure out where to throw the ball in a short 3 second window so he does something stupid, like picking the wrong answer on the wonderlic. bad choices with the football, and innacurate on top of it, wow....5 million dollars for that. I said on day 1, one of the WORST SIGNINGS OF THE ENTIRE OFFSEASON. COMPLETE INSANITY. you need SMART quarterbacks if you gonna pass it all the time, otheriwse RUN THE BALL, BUT NOT BOTH. DUMBEST COACH IN THE NFL. HE WILL NEVER WIN A SB OR A CHAMPIONSHIP AT ANY LEVEL OF PRO FOOTBALL, NONE. NEVER.

First of all, Andy Reid is not taking the fall for this trainwreck. The biggest issue is Castillo not making adjustments & the (wide 9) defensive scheme is the worst in football. Keep Reid for the future and hire a new defensive coordinator. Stop hammering Andy and look at the real problem.

I think you missed the forest for the trees. The issue is that Castillo should never have been hired in the first place. That was only compounded when Andy called him "the best man for the job." That decision and that decision alone ended this season before it ever began. No one outside the organization took this seriously. Castillo cannot adjust because he does not know what he is doing.

I'm done. When you get to a 3rd and 2 or 3rd and 3 and either take McCoy out of the game or have him as a blocker so you can throw a 15 yard in route, it verifies you really don't care about winning. When you have the best left side of an offensive line in the league and don't run behind it, you don't care about winning. When you consistently let Babin go 8 yards upfield and allow 15 yard runs to his side of the field, you don't care about winning. When you don't have one of your veteran offensive linemen jack your punk WR up in the lockeroom because he's an ineffective, alligator armed punk, you don't care about winning. Fire everyone except Duce Staley and Howard Mudd and start fresh next year with some smashmouth football. Draft nothing but defensive players and a big-bodied WR that will go after toss up balls. This game was more embarrassing than last week. We'll go 5-1 in the division and still miss the playoffs because Andy must constantly throw the ball and the defense only cares about sacks. Sad.

Before the game, Merrill Reese said they had to stop the their best runner. Juan Castillo didn't know that because he was last a defense coordinator in HS many years ago. Merrill knew, and he will take over as defense coordinator at tomorrow's press conference. I'd cut DeSean tomorrow and get nothing back for him. I'd cut Riley Cooper and Vince Young, and play all young guys. An Inquirer writer suggested that. The writer should take over as head coach when Jeffrey fires Andy tomorrow. What a horrific season. It makes the entire city look so bad and dumb. Penalties, inability to tackle, horrid defense, F- coaching, and a QB who should be in Arena Football. Hey Jeffrey, this is the GOLD standard. You are a fool, but Philly fans are not. Watch how many #10 jerseys get sold this Christmas. You can't give them away you fool

And if the Jags can fire Del Rio in mid season they why can't the Eagles? I don't care if they make Marty the interim head coach at this point. He'll be gone at seasons end.

Kafka BETTER be the QB next week. I couldn't believe VY came back out after that pick 6. I about fell out of my chair when he was back out there.

I would love to see Dungy coach this team and be re-united with Mudd. This team would go places.

Coach Reid has had a lot of success as demonstrated by his strong winning percentage (.604 before tonight), reaching the playoffs 9 of his 13 years. However, this year the defense has been abysmal, the drafting poor, clock management poor, and in game adjustments poor. Something has to change: coach, defensive coordinator, GM, players, or some combination of the above. It is time for some new voices and new players. We need a strong defense and we don't have it. This season has been too painful to not make some serious changes.

I always said it, Mcnabb, when he was playing at a high level, made Andy look good. Now you see how bad this coach is. The Juan Castillo move was a disaster. His drafts has not been good either, especially in the top rounds. Time to let him go.

Main problem is they can evaluate talent, make poor draft picks , and stick by players that should have been cut long ago, Cooper, Cheney, Allen, Fokou, Mathews, and Coleman have no business starting (at least not for any team with playoff aspirations). Juan is a disaster and worse then McDermott ever was. Reid is too soft on most players and too tough on only one (Desean which might be part of the reason he tuned out but the guy has talent which is rare on this crappy team). The bright spot is o line looked good, McCoy looks good, and D line is ok. Rest of team and coaches can go!

The staff must go. Trade DeJean. Clean house with the inept and bring in a coaching staff which will go with the guys who will play hard no matter what. It will take 3-4 yrs but if the hard workers stick it out, the team will be ready to compete again. Andy must go as does the entire staff and perhaps Banner.

This isn't a "wide 9" problem. This is an "every phase of the game" problem. Fat Andy's team is bad in every phase. L-Mac can run, and Babin and Cole can sack, and that's about it. No offense, No defense, No Special Teams, No play-offs, No wins, Let's hope No More Fat Andy. Enough is enough.

Gimmicks will not get you a ring in the NFL, and we can now declare the "wide 9" a gimmick. It takes the ends out of defensing the run, and it does not ensure pressure on the quarterback with enough consistency to justify its drawbacks. Andy does have SOME good guys, but he has loaded his roster with a whole lot of ordinary and middling, and not nearly enough great! If he wants to put his guys in a better position to win, he first needs better guys - particularly on defense. Every defender should know how to tackle, every lineman and linebacker should be able to take on a block AND make a play while doing so, every defensive back should be able to pass-defend, and Lurie and Banner and Roseman and Savage and Reid need to acknowledge that they have FAILED to draft great defenders in Reid's time as head coach and VP. Scheme, in football, is not irrelevant, but it will NEVER compensate for sub-par talent. And gimmicks only work when nobody expects them.

Where in heck is Kotite when we need him? I don't know, folks. I just have a bad feeling that AR will be with us for a while longer. How many years does he have left on his contract? Did anyone see the clips of Jackson they showed after the game? Wouldn't run his routes. Wouldn't talk to the qb. What a mess!! Reid was a good coach who has morphed into a nice guy and that is why his players are so loyal. The nucleus is there. Let's rebuild.

If the eagles just ran the ball more, they'd have a better chance.

In 2 offensive series in the 2nd quarter, the eagles ran the ball for 7 yards on 1st down and then passed twice and punted. They were only down 14-7 at the time. They came out in the 2nd half and ran the ball and moved down the field. Why didn't they use Shady earlier in the game.

They let a lousy seattle team with an injured QB run all over them when they knew the seahawks would run. At least Seattle knew what it would take to win the game and stuck to it. Andy doesn't believe in the run.

The tackling stinks, too many penalties, the LB and safeties are really bad but you have a great running back that you continually undervalue and don't use enough. Reid should be fired for that alone, not even adding in his poor drafting, naming Juan as his def coach, clock mis-management, lousy game day adjustments.

Reid is the worst game day coach in the NFL hands down. A pee wee coach could outfox Andy. He maybe great with preparation but his strategy and game day decisions are consistently bad.

One of my favorites this year was the run-pass play at the goal line by Ronnie Brown. No one in the NFL had ever seen anything as stupid as that play, and later we learn it was a planned play. That's the genius of Andy
    "I don't have a clue" Reid.

Fortunately I had resigned myself to the fact that the Eagles were not going to do much the remaining 5 games. with that said, what was displayed last night was worse than I thought could happen. Almost all of the players in the game last night should give their pay checks for the game back. They didn't earn a penny, and lost a tremendous amount of respect from not only the Philly fans, but I'm guessing other players around the league.
