Reid said Eagles are not soft team

POSTED: Tuesday, November 8, 2011, 12:23 PM
Andy Reid had a one-word response when asked if he thought the Eagles were soft, "No." (Laurence Kesterson/Staff Photographer)

Here are some quick notes from Andy Reid's day-after news conference today following the loss to the Bears:

* Safety Nate Allen has a concussion. Left guard Evan Mathis has turf toe and will "struggle to practice tomorrow."

* Right at the start of the presser, Reid was asked whether the Eagles are a soft team. His one-word reply, "No."

* Asked if the players are angry, Reid said "they're disappointed."

* Reid said the Eagles are a "real good football team" if they don't committ turnovers and penalties. "I don't think people are stopping us. We're stopping oursleves. We have to take care of that. That's what we can control." Reid said the turnovers and penalties but the Eagles again, "whether he agrees with the [penalties] or not." He said the fake punt should be included in the turnovers.

* Reid continued to express confidence in his team. "I've seen this football team play good football. We are going to get this right and continue to play good football." At another point, he said, "I know how good we can be. As coaches and players we need to make sure we can do this consistently. ... That's my responsibility to get this done."

* Defensively, Reid said the Eagles need to get off the field on third down and need to convert on offense on third down.

* Asked specifically about Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, who will face his former team this week, Reid said, "He's working on it."

* Reid said the Eagles need to do a better job of putting DeSean Jackson in position to make play. He said Jackson was not open last night. Reid, asked about whether Jackson is playing not to get hurt, because of his contract situation, said, "I don't think so."

* Reid said Brandon Graham played well in his first action of the season. "I thought he did some good things," Reid said. "There’s a bit of rust he’s got to knock off, but he did some good things.”

The Eagles have signed tight end Brett Brackett to the practice squad. Brackett replaces TE Anthony Hill, who was signed by the Indianapolis Colts.

Brackett, a native of Lawrence, NJ, was signed as a rookie free agent by the Miami Dolphins in 2011 and spent time on Jacksonville’s practice squad. The 6-5, 246-pound Brackett played collegiately at Penn State, where he caught 39 passes for 525 yards and five touchdowns as a senior wide receiver in 2010.

So coming into the game, a little league coach knew he had to stop Forte. He starts the game running wild. Why? I just don't get it. And for the three Dream Team corners, they are horrific. Soft? They should all be benched. Rookies couldn't do any worse.

How did this very soft team ever get labeled the "dream team"?

Of course the Eagles are soft. They are too small in many places,
too young, not talented enough and at this point they lack heart.
Its obvious if you look at the tackling and pursuit. The vaulted
cornerbacks look like they are in a daze. I have yet to see Asomwagh
make a big hit or even a solo tackle. Several times he danced away from cotact last night. DRC doesn't know what he is doing in this scheme. Ashante hasn't show up for many games and last night he
was awful. These three are supposed to be shut down defensive players. In this scheme or in their present state of mind they
can't even cover the mediocre reveivers the Bears have on the field.
What a disgrace Reid and this braintrust have made out of this team
Get rid of the wide nine, the defensive coach that brought it here and
draft some big huge men for both lines. Finally, find some real linebackers who will hit, pursue and tackle people. This is the same
recipe the Bears used last year to tear the Eagles up and they couldn't come up with a plan, guts or intestinal fortitude to make it
happen. Sure they are soft except for Vick and McCoy who still keep
    trying.

hello? Andy McFly? not soft? I'm sure he'd insist he's not overweight with the same conviction(/delusion).

Look, Reid had some good years. He's thick-headed. I mean how many years did we need a goal-line running back and watch that need go ignored? How many years did he call too many passing plays when everybody knows you need to be able to play tough, smashmouth football in our division and especially in the playoffs. Thanks for the good years, Andy, but things have just run their course. It's not working out. The team needs to change directions. They need a new voice. Maybe you'll find success somehwere else. I hope you do but you won't find it here. So for the good of all parties involved you and your whole regime needs to GO. My choice for a successor is former Eagle Bill Cowher. Give him whatever he wants. At least we won't have to worry about being soft.

Let Andy alone. The players love both him and Mike, Andy and Mike work great together and when the o-line gets fixed champions will come.

You could see the difference in how tough the team was way back when they played the Niners. The Niners beat the Eagles up pretty good on defense, and were clearly the more intense team. From there, the Niners continued to play tough and win, while the Eagles want to rely on speed and finesse. If you look through the history of football, much of the toughness of a team comes from the linebacker position;Bednarick, Butkas,Lambert, Lewis, to name a few. We all know what the Eagles have there now.

I wish I could have seen Buddy's face as the Bears marched down through the Eagles. Jeff Laurie it's time to call Jeff Fischer before another team gets him.
