Reid "did not hear" 'Fire Andy' chants

POSTED: Sunday, November 27, 2011, 7:54 PM

Several big issues emerged from Andy Reid’s postgame news conference:

First, Reid said he did not hear the “Fire, Andy Reid” chants at the Linc.

“I didn’t hear them,” he said. “I don’t hear much down there. The way we played I can understand it.”

Second, the issues surrounding DeSean Jackson seem to continue. A report from the sideline indicated that Jackson was benched for poor performance.

“I just wanted to give the other guys an opportunity,” Reid said.

Asked if Jackson was benched, Reid said, “I wanted to give the other guys a chance to make a play.”

Asked later if he was satisfied with how Jackson played, Reid said, “I already answered that.”

Jackson, when speaking to reporters at his locker, said, "It was the decision that was made. As a player, I just have to live with it."

Jackson, on the two drops: "Things happen sometimes. It wasn’t one of my best games as far as a couple of plays I could have had ... At the end of the day, I didn’t come up with any … No excuses behind that."

Reid was again asked whether he stands by the decision to hire Juan Castillo as defensive coordinator.

“You didn’t ask me that last week. If we have bad game, I guess you feel comfortable asking. We have to do a better job all the way around.”

On why Michael Vick was not on the sideline: “He was in pain and I am not going to have him stand out there while he was in pain.”

On the Eagles continuing struggle on third down: “That’s on me. We have to figure it out. If I could answer that, I’d end it. We have to keep working on fundamentals and doing things that you know are right. That’s how you go about it.”

On why Nnamdi Asomugha was active for the game: “He felt like he could play a limited role and we could use him to cover the tight ends. We had a package in for him where he did that.”

Overall: “Obviously the Patriots were a better team than we were. You can’t have as many penalties and turnovers. That’s my responsibility. I have to make sure I take care of it.”

More: “I’m disappointed in a lot of things. That’s where I start with myself … Ask me any disappointment question you want, that’s where I am.”

On defending Brady: “Juan tried to mix it up. There wasn’t a lot of things working. He was getting the ball out fast. His receivers did a nice job.”

On passing the ball on fourth-and-1 at the goal line: “I thought that was the best thing to do. Obviously, it didn’t work.”

On why he remains confident that the problems can be fixed, “We have to take care of the penalties and turnovers and play a little tighter on the defensive side … None of us can predict the future. There are a lot of different variable. We have to keep fighting. That’s what you do right now.”

Andy didn't drop the 2 TDs in the end zone...DeStupid did.....Andy didn't blow all those tackles...the LBs and the secondary did....Andy didn't overthrow or underthrow wide open receivers, VY did. I hate his playcalling, his clock management and his inability to adapt on the fly when other teams make changes to counter his gameplan, but AR didn't lose this game today. For the life of me, I just can't figure out how WRs keep getting downfield past our stellar secondary.

For the life of me, I can't figure out who coaches those guys.

Do you think other coaches get fired because the players are playing well? Uh-duh! From the minds of plants!

Andy Reid and his staff lost the game with their play calls and scheme. Maybe the players are just not good enough but who put the team together? Who spent 2 second round picks on safeties who can't play? Who traded up last year for a DE who can't get out of the trainers room? How about the last 2 years third round picks?
Today's loss in not on Jackson but he gets a share of it with a poor game. Just bench him for the rest of the season and give somebody else a shot. Cut somebody tomorrow to make a statement. Do anything to show the fans you care.

Trade Desean Jackson for a playmaking linebacker in the offseason. Release Rogers-Cromartie right now. This team has character issues. Then I'd fire Andy Reid and Juan Castillo. Lurie ought to hold Banner and Roseman accountable for this debacle too. Ultimately, I think bad drafting is going to be the biggest reason for the end of the Reid era. Graham, Allen, Coleman, Chaney, Fokou, Jordan, Clayton, Jarrett...none of them is even a starting-quality player. Before this there was McDougle, Macho Harris, Quentin Demps, Barry Gardner, Stewart Bradley, just bust after bust on the defensive side of the ball.

Bring Reid, Juan and the entire coaching staff back. And reward DeSean with that contract he has worked so hard do get and so richly deserves as a top 5 receiver. Welcome back to the 70s boys. We need to stage another open try-out at the Linc. Now that would be fun.

i read some good stuff in the posts. Some good humor. But i am like a handful of old Eagles fans my time from 1963 on. i know a punk when i see one, DeSean. i know a pro when i see one. Avant, Celek, Herremens, Peters, McCoy, Harbor, Cooper, Jenkins, Cole, Babin, Mathis,. i know quitters when i see them. DeSean, Nate Allen, Samuel. Some guys that don't have enough talent to be in the NFL, Foukou, Jordan, Hall, Clayton, Brown,

I must say I am so sick of Andy Reid, I can not describe my feelings. I wish he will just go away as quickly as possible. Having said that, I believe the coaching staff made the right decision for benching D. Jackson. I am a big DJ fan, my son wears his jersey, but he is giving far less than 100% and it's discouraging and demoralazing. Glass half full, he is just too afraid to get injured; I don't blame him for that at all. I would probably play the same way if I was severely underpaid. Most of the blame should be placed on the front office for this situation, but not all. Nevertheless, I think the team should shut him down for the season(ala TO in '05). It's in the best interest of everyone concerned, most of all the morale of the team, which is what I care about most. The team needs to begin setting a tone for next year, no matter who is coaching, or who is running deep routes.

Judging by Jackson's attitude and play, he is over paid. Alligator arms are worthless.

Fire Andy now. There's no reason to let him play out the season when the games are meaningless.
