Reid defends DeSean
Daily News Staff
UPDATED: An NFL Network spokesman was relayed Reid's comments from earlier today and issued the following statement: “The broadcast team commented on what they saw on the field last night, as they do for all game telecasts."
EARLIER:
Eagles coach Andy Reid said he was "very, very disappointed" with the NFL Network for its portrayal of DeSean Jackson on the sideline during last night's loss to Seattle.
"You can take a camera and make it alook any way you want to make it look." Reid said at his day after news conference. "I am telling you, that kid was all in last night and wanted to win that game as much as anybody."
At one point, NFL Network cameras showed quarterback Vince Young talking to Jackson and Jackson seemingly not paying much attention. At another point, the NFL Network reported that Jackson was not talking to his teammates on the sideline.
"There was nothing on the sidelines, no commotion with him and Vince," Reid said. "There is nothing there. Nothing."
"I am not sure they know who's talking to who and so on and what the conversation is about," Reid said. "Not knowing the language, I don't know how you are able to go into that stuff ... This is petty stuff."
Before the game, Jackson was seen hanging out with the defensive linemen instead of with the wide receivers, as is customary.
"I don't care about all that," Reid said. "I just care the kid goes out and plays."
Reid said of Jackson, "That kid was all in and I was very proud of him."
Asked why Jackson has been unable to put up big games as he has in the past (he has one 100-yard receiving game this season), Reid said teams are making an effort to stop him. "He has people's attention, particularly on the deep balls."
On the injury front,
* Reid said wide receiver Jeremy Maclin (hamstring) is expected to practice Monday. "He's doing better," Reid said.
* On quarterback Michael Vick's return to practice Reid said "there is a pretty good chance" he would practice Monday, but he was not sure yet in what role. As to whether Vick could return against Miami, Reid said, "I think so for next week. I want to see him throw the ball and really torque on it for at least a handful of throws or more than a handful of throws."
* Reid said Colt Anderson will have surgery next week for a torn ACL, ending his season, as was reported last night.
* Cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha has a concussion and will go through the protocols required to be cleared.
* He said the other injured players who did not make the trip last night are all progressing.

UPDATE (2:15 p.m.): The Eagles announced that they have signed CD D.J. Johnson to the practice squad. Johnson (6' 1", 191 lbs.) appeared in 10 regular season games with the Giants from 2009-2010.

If Jackson's production is down because he's being double-covered, maybe he's just not as good as we thought. I mean, if has nothing to do with his attitude/contract, then that's the conclusion we're left with. I'm pretty sure Larry Fitzgerald sees double-coverage every week. p-diddy
'I don't care about all that," Reid said. "I just care the kid goes out and plays."
Us fans just care about if the team WINS. Ohmy

Let's not try to decipher the body language on the side line because that will go either way. What happened when Vince wanted to go to Jackson when he had inside position on a deep route and Jackson didn't even look up. You combine that with the three drops last week and it's hard to say that this kid wants to win here whith this team. nceagle- You forgot to mention that Jackson was jogging this route

AR it is very obvious you don't care about quite a bit beyond "all that stuff". Instead of building after the 5 year cycle ending in 2005, you and that other moron Uncle Joe decide to take short cuts with losers and low round picks. Time's yours, genius. oldBird
Andy Reid is a PROVEN liar...no one beleive anything that Reid says. frank105
Couldnt get the ball to him, thats all. saunhi
Andy knows the real story; he knows this kid quit on him and on his teammates a long time ago! JBinPA
reid has to say that because even if reid isnt going to keep jackson next year he needs to keep his value up if he wants to trade him.
surprised if the players actually put any trust in reid.
bloodymess
DJAX is overpaid, not underpaid. Get rid of Mr. Softy. He is a fast Todd Pinkston with the head of TO. gob1234
Yea Andy he was all in alright. Was he "all in" when you benched him for an entire game and then for a whole 4th quarter in another game? The eagles are downright liars to all the money paying fans who support them. 420Phillie
Yeah, you can make a mirror say anything you want too, if you don't look in one Andy! Anyone else sick of him taking blame?!? It used to be honorable, now its just sad and frustrating. Neebo
Reid is disappointed. Seriously. Andy Reid is disappointed. His concern is how this team is being portrayed. Unbelievable. smfree31
