Reid: 'Your job is on the line every week, man'

POSTED: Sunday, October 9, 2011, 4:37 PM

Eagles coach Andy Reid was asked about his job security as the team fell to 1-4 after a 31-24 loss to Buffalo.

“In the National Football League, your job is on the line every week, man,” Reid said.

After his introductory statement and “time’s yours,” Reid walked off the podium when reporters took an extra second to ask the first question. “OK, that’s good,” Reid said.

He then returned, “C’mon now,” he told reporters before answering questions.

“All I’m concerned about is that next game,” Reid said. “All I can control is getting the football team better, the players better and the coaches better.”

Asked if he still thought this was a playoff team, Reid said, “We’re in one game at a time here. That part is not going to change. We’re not worrying about the playoffs. We’re worried about winning one game at a time.”

“We are what we are right now and we’re going to get better … We have no excuses,” he said.

On Juqua Parker’s penalty at the end of the game: “Listen, I’m not saying anything on that. I’m not going to hang one guy out to dry on that play.”

On running a play at halftime rather than attempting a field goal: “We thought we could get one more play off … . I thought we needed to get a score and thought we could get that taken care of.”

On improved play in the second half: “The guys stayed determined made plays, stayed aggressive and that gave them a little confidence, which I thought was important. They made plays.”

On Michael Vick: “He did some good things. He put us in a position to win the game or at least tie the game at the end and we had the interception at the end, but he did some good things.”

On Jason Avant: “That’s not his M.O. He’s a not a turnover guy.”

On what’s happening: “We need to eliminate turnovers and penalties in crucial situations. It seems pretty obvious.”

Chuck, the truth is not that Vick is old but that he is playing behind an offensive line that is worse then last year. Vick was sharpe at the beginning of last year because he was more relaxed and hungry. This year, he has to think under pressure which is why he crashed towards the end of last year.

This is how the quarter back situation should have played out.
They should have signed Vick to a long term deal last year. He would have been a bargin.

This year should have been McNabbs last year as they retool the offensive line for Kevin Kolb.

Kevin would be starting next year with Vick as a backup.
Instead, we got rid of McNabb and have a player who has never been a player as good as McNabb times two including Young. So, who will our quater back be in two years when Vick is really old and banged up?
Get Rid of Reid now or next year this team will look like the Richie years? Trust me brother!

Remember the days Prior to Lurie. Bad owner, poor coaches and awlful Offensive line. The team was sold and we got Reid. He was a former offensive lineman and now coach and he fix the line right away. Truth is he couldn't coach. Jim Johnson covered for his mistakes for years on D and McNabb/Westbrook pick up the offensive with their magic behind the initail O line. Reid give the O line to whom? Yes, the now Defensive coach. Andy or Trick Daddy's as they call him poor draft choices made the team hollow. He has made poor dicision for years.

After his poor Kolb decision, he switched to Vick. Fans, Kolb is a BETTER QUARTERBACK then Vick. Kevin just needed an offensive line and as you see, this is what Vick needs. GET RID OF ANDY NOW because the Eagles still have great Talent on their team which we will loose if they keep him around. Trick Daddy Reid is on information overload, his brain is fried. Take the reins from him and put a banner up for him in the stadium because he has brought some exciting football over the years.

Reid say, bye, bye and take Castillo with you.

Here is the problem with Vick, his presence causes Reid and Moronweig to play unsound UN-PROVEN football. That is why he was labeled a coach killer in Atlanta. Its raz ma daz street football that leads to lack of discipline on both sides of the ball. Trick em football. There will never be a championship with this unsound football. Something is always bound to go wrong. Lurie, blow this Reid monstrosity up and start over.

Did anyone notice at all that the Eagles stopped sucking in the second half after 3.5 games of being terrible? Yes there was a costly penalty and a rare pair of turnovers by Avant. The Bills are a good team this year and the Eagles pummeled them in the second half. The O line started playing, the defense made stop after stop.... This team appears to have turned the bad play around. Not the losing but the bad play. Don't count out these Eagles just yet.

    Time's yours.

It's amazing Mike Vick is getting blamed for all this. I'd love to see Kolb under the defensive rushes Vick has to endure. He threw for 300 yards in the face of the onslaught and 400 last week. You can't win just by scoring, you have to stop your opponent at some point. The offense is scoring but opponent are scoring more.

I'm usually a Reid, but this looks like a team that isn't very well coached right now. That is on Andy. Well coached teams don't make the same mistakes over and over again. Plus, you can't win with a backup offensive line and that is what we have right now.

Until the defensive holes are fixed, the Eagles will be a poor team. We need a savvy defensive coach who understands talent. The days of going with a group of inexperienced late round draft choices at linebacker have to end.. Asomugha is incredibly overrated..

    Frank,

just think if we didn't have Vick. This team would be a mess. So lets be for real it's not the Offense, everyone must see this. Don't throw the $100 million thing either. The Eagles need to play games in the 30 point range to win and prepared for that. Think of the pressure Vick has,do you really think that Kolb can handle it so lets be for real. Go Vick because he's carrying the work load.

In all seriousness none of this is Vick's fault. Only those with low Football I.Qs would suggest such. The problem is on defense and Juan is not the answer. The Eagles promoted Juan as a cost saving measure. There's no other excuse.

As far as Vick is concern you can't ask that kid to do much more than he's done over the first 5 games. Even when he was hurt he left the game with the Eagles comfortably leading and the Eagles defense collapsed.

The truth of the matter is that other than the players brought in the Eagles have limited talent throughout the 53 man roster. Taking Vick out of the equation, with Kolb last year the Eagles are no better than 6-10 with the same weapons, and this year still at the point we're facing right now. Parker, Peterson, Laws and Dixon are not going to yield the Eagles sufficient pressure and haven't thus you have Babin and Jenkins with 13 Sacks this year between them.

The Eagles are carrying a lot of dead weight on their roster and aren't as deep as it has been made to believe.

How does a seasoned veteran jump off sides with the game on the line? Talented play makers don't make Pop Warner mistakes such as that.

The Major Question is what will the Eagles get for Mike Vick in a Trade being they are on pace to draft Andrew Luck. How do you not Draft Andrew Luck with their anticipated First Pick?

Then do you trust the offensive line to play better next year with a year's experience? Or do you focus on drafting a stud defensive tackle to add to the mix of play makers. Decisions, decisions. When the season started the decisions were which hotel would I be staying at during the super bowl.

my how things change over the course of a season.

Lurie is an idiot if he continues to ignore what is happening. Andy Reid says they have to get better, I am so sick of hearing that. First, quit playing zone defence that isn't working. Get somebody who can stop the run. What you got isn't working. Fire Castillo, he has not got a clue on how to run a defence. but it might be a better route to throw the season, if you haven't already, that way we get a high draft pick and the 4th place schedule but Reid has not been very good with his picks either. Next loss at Washington.

Jeff Lurie is making Dan Snyder look very smart for firing coach after coach (with the exception of Joe Gibbs' second retirement) until he got a real winner with Mike Shanahan. Lurie has kept the most incompetent head coach in the NFL around for 13 YEARS. Even Joe Kuharich, Rich Kotite, and Dead End Rhodes got canned when the team quit on them. It's time to fire Reid, Mohrenweg, Castillo, Mudd, Washed-Up, and the rest of this coaching staff at the bye. Bring in Dick Vermeil to salvage what he can, and then hire someone who's actually won a Super Bowl as a head coach and who can bring some discipline to this team.

Midgets have never, and cannot ever, win in the NFL. Jackson, Vick, McCoy and even Maclin are all under-sized. Ditto our linebackers. And our offensive line is undersized too. You would think after Cunningham and McNabb, you would understand that you cannot win with a running QB. Congrats Michael Vick on being the all time leading rushing QB ahead of Randall. Mike is electric, isn't he? Too bad he cannot win games. One of the WORST QBs in the NFL.

How the heck people are blaming this 1 and 6 start on Vick is beyond me! Against Atlanta, he was in control and we had the lead going into the fourth. Against the Giants he gets injured, against the 49ers we were winning going into the fourth. Too many turnovers? OK, let's agree that he has too many turnovers. But let's also agree that in EACH game that he finished he gave us a chance to win. Today we had all of the momentum, and then, Avant goes butterfingers. Last week it was Maclin. Watkins gets the hands to the face penalty, Juqua Parker jumps offisides. . .Nmandi gets a hands to the face penalty. I mean, are we seriously trying to blame Vick for this mess??? I promise you, if Vick goes to a team with a stout defense that actually runs the ball, like Minnesota, or even the Redskins, you will see what kind of gamechanging player Vick is. Reid's scheme, which is, have him pass over 40 times a game with no protection, is nonsense. He should be on a team where he can hand the ball off, trust the defense, and make the one or two plays that only he can make to win the game.

Can they finally admit that Reid cannot coach and fire him? The definition of insanity is to do the same thing over and over and expect a different result. Time management, under-valuing key positions like safety and lb and poor game day adjustments? They are the worst coached team in America, (College and HS included).

Last week Andy said he had a plan to fix this and turn the Eagles around, and he was right. He has fixed it so they don't make the playoffs, and he has them turned around and headed straight to the basement. Some plan! Still, his PLAYERS made the TOs today, but you hafta look at the (rotund) man at the top. Have the players tuned out the Land Whale? Maybe too early to say, but it doesn't look so good. This loss was so bad I can't even put it in into words. Sad. Really sad.

If they really knew what they were doing they would have flipped Vick in the during the draft. They became married to the guy with that contract. I hope there are some outs on that paper. Dan Snyder on line 2.

I feel bad for the season ticket holders. The stands should be empty for the next home game. Maybe that would give Lurie the message.

Vick stinks...he makes a couple of scrambles a game and people think he is great.....Vick is 1-6 in the Eagles last seven games..pathetic.

So get rid of Vick and we have a great team, Not. Under pressure bad things happen just like Eli throwing 3 picks at Giants. What’s hurts this season is a rookie DC and poor O-line which forces the offence to try to make something happen. Players will have to make due with the Marx brothers coaching staff.

First the Vick we see today is NOT the Vick we saw at the beginning of last year. Today's Vick is a turnover machine. He has gotten older very quickly and it will be difficult to change him back to that Vick from early last year. Secondly, if the first team guys cannot tackle, and even when they do the runners drag them ahead a couple of yards, put in the back-ups. Maybe they at least know how to bring the ball carrier down.

Okay, I am not here to disagree with all the haterrs and the fact that the Phils lost makes this loss even harder to digest, but blaming Vick and saying he is not the player from the beggining of last year is ridiculous. First off our O-line is not the o-line it has been ever under Reid's offense. This O-line simply cannot protect Vick from the blitzes and will continue to do so. The amazing Vick we all saw in the six game MVP stretch last year is not him, but the Vick you see every game is. Vick put us in a position to win the game last weeek and Maclin fumbled, same thing this week and Avant fumbled. The other two games he left in we had the lead. This is not on Vick, infact of the four picks, 2 were off recievers hands and the other two were while he was being smashed imediately. The pick for a TD was a terrible thrown pass, but other then that Vick played hard and competed. It's all again on the Defense, if we cannot stop the run at all we cannot win football games period. Fitzpatrick was awful when he had to throw the ball, which was almost never. 3rd and 2 against the birds is a first down. Castillo has to go and all the LB's can go with him.

phew... not ready for prime time. A circus of pop warner like errors...
as bad as it was a holding penalty stalled their late momentum, nullifying a touchdown when they really had them on the run. Fitting.
Didn't see it, hope it was a legit call against Watkins.

I gotta do a better job and put my guys into a position to win.....but Laurie and Co. ar in the position they want to be they win every week that dopey fans buy tickets, pays seat licenses, buy..... mugs, pennants, hats, shirts, parking fees, concession prices....keep spening your bucks on a loosing team. Full them seats in the stadium. Lauries laughs all the way to the bank. It's about M O N E Y and Lauries is making it with a loosing team and a fan base that is willing to pay for it.

If only that were true. Obviously Reid isn't in any jeopardy, since his teams keep coming out extremely sloppy and unprepared to play. He continues to make the same idiotic game management decisions and his Castillo decision has made the team a laughing stock.

Actually, his job is on the line at the end of this year. If the team continues to lose even the owner will have to realize his time is up and Andy has taken this franchise as far as he can. In a way this disaster of a season is probably the best thing that can happen if you want Andy gone. If he continued winning ten to eleven games and making the playoffs I think Jeffrey would probably keep him around thinking some year he might take them all the way. Now it is obvious that Andy is a poor man's Marv Levy (at least he took Buffalo to several Super Bowls).
