Eagles coach Andy Reid was asked about his job security as the team fell to 1-4 after a 31-24 loss to Buffalo.
“In the National Football League, your job is on the line every week, man,” Reid said.
After his introductory statement and “time’s yours,” Reid walked off the podium when reporters took an extra second to ask the first question. “OK, that’s good,” Reid said.
He then returned, “C’mon now,” he told reporters before answering questions.
“All I’m concerned about is that next game,” Reid said. “All I can control is getting the football team better, the players better and the coaches better.”
Asked if he still thought this was a playoff team, Reid said, “We’re in one game at a time here. That part is not going to change. We’re not worrying about the playoffs. We’re worried about winning one game at a time.”
“We are what we are right now and we’re going to get better … We have no excuses,” he said.
On Juqua Parker’s penalty at the end of the game: “Listen, I’m not saying anything on that. I’m not going to hang one guy out to dry on that play.”
On running a play at halftime rather than attempting a field goal: “We thought we could get one more play off … . I thought we needed to get a score and thought we could get that taken care of.”
On improved play in the second half: “The guys stayed determined made plays, stayed aggressive and that gave them a little confidence, which I thought was important. They made plays.”
On Michael Vick: “He did some good things. He put us in a position to win the game or at least tie the game at the end and we had the interception at the end, but he did some good things.”
On Jason Avant: “That’s not his M.O. He’s a not a turnover guy.”
On what’s happening: “We need to eliminate turnovers and penalties in crucial situations. It seems pretty obvious.”
Eagles brass went all in on Andy's wish list...broke the bank..he needs to be replaced. mlwmlw
I am not happy with the play of the eagles.. but I am not going to give up on them , ,these same so called fans who were so excited about Vick last year are now saying// oh ..he is awful .he is this and Reid is that. these are the same fans if the Eagles start winning will jump back on the wagon.. I take the good with the bad .right now its a lot of bad .. caddymike
In all seriousness....Vick stinks...Vick had FOUR INTERCEPTIONS today.....Vick threw SEVEN INTERCEPTIONS in the last three games..WOW...plus Vick has fumbled many times and was too dumb and let the clock run out before the first half expired....oh yeah, the $100 million Vick is.. 1-6 in the Eagles last seven games...pathetic. frank105
The players are turning the ball over and missing tackles. I am tired of their mistakes. I am not throwing Reid under the bus for this mess. He has proven that his team makes the playoffs 75% of the time. Clt Philly Fan
Reids needs to let go of his Ego and hired a good defensive coach. joedig22
Frank,
just think if we didn't have Vick. This team would be a mess. So lets be for real it's not the Offense, everyone must see this. Don't throw the $100 million thing either. The Eagles need to play games in the 30 point range to win and prepared for that. Think of the pressure Vick has,do you really think that Kolb can handle it so lets be for real. Go Vick because he's carrying the work load. joedig22
When do the 76ers start? camasbud
Vick stinks...Vick is now 1-7 in the Eagles last eight games..Vick has thrown SEVEN INTERCEPTIONS in the last three games..WOW,that's absolutely awful.. frank105
Sorry Dexter, Vick is a turn over machine right now, and there is no end in sight. His high risk, high reward, style of play is turning the ball over far too much. Reality is what it is. camasbud
I look forward to the time when I don't have to see Andy's useless face on the sidelines. ziggy26
Multiple choice question: which is the worst long term investment: Michael Vick, Ryan Howard, or Enron? Joe Lis lives
Until the defensive holes are fixed, the Eagles will be a poor team. We need a savvy defensive coach who understands talent. The days of going with a group of inexperienced late round draft choices at linebacker have to end.. Asomugha is incredibly overrated.. bradco
I'm usually a Reid, but this looks like a team that isn't very well coached right now. That is on Andy. Well coached teams don't make the same mistakes over and over again. Plus, you can't win with a backup offensive line and that is what we have right now. hawk18
Time for top to bottom change. Reid, I love you man, but you have lost your way. Mr. Laurie, it is time to make the difficult decision. DKNJ
