Vick says he gets it now
Daily News staff & Les Bowen
Eagles quarterback Michael Vick, returning this week from a three-week rib injury absence, said he plans to heed teammates and coaches who have pleaded with him to be more conscious of self-preservation.
"Sliding. Getting down," Vick said, interrupting a question about how he might avoid missing valuable time with injuries. "I've made my mind up. There's going to be times when I can't get the extra yards. I gotta get down. I get too caught up in the game sometimes, but that leads to me being sidelined, not being accountable for the team on Sunday."
Vick called it "a situation I had total control of, and I still do it, each and every time I step outside of the pocket."
Vick said he will slide "the best way I can." Vick has said previously he doesn't really know how to slide.
Earlier, Eagles coach Andy Reid spoke with reporters:
* Everyone on the roster is practicing today. That includes Vick, Jeremy Maclin, Nnamdi Asomugha, King Dunlap and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, all of whom had been hampered by injuries. Reid said he wanted to see how things go with Rodgers=Cromartie, who has a high ankle sprain. The others seem good to go.
* Reid said Vick will start Sunday against Miami, barring a setback in the new few days of practice. He said Vick felt good Tuesday after throwing the ball in Monday's light practice.
* Reid said there will be no changes in the starting safeties. On Nate Allen, he said that historically when you look at players coming back from patellar tendon injuries, it takes 2 years to recover.
* He said no one from the front office has approached him about firing defensive coordinator Juan Castillo to save his job. Reports over the weekend indicated that was the situation facing Reid, though it is hard to imagine those conversations would be happening now with four games to play. Reid said everything remains focused on this season and getting better.
* Reid said he talks with ownership "all the time" and that "we're all pulling together."
* On DRC, Reid said he was learning his new role, playing inside, and getting better each week. He said the last snaps he took before the injury were his best of the season.
* Reid said Asomugha's injured knee is feeeling "pretty good."
* Reid said he is very proud of Vince Young for the way he has handled himself and learning a complex offense. Young will remain the backup to Vick and ahead of Mike Kafka on the depth chart.
* Reid said Colt Anderson was having a Pro Bowl-caliber year on special teams. He said Anderson will continue to get better as a player after his ACL surgery and rehab. Abnderson's replacement, Tom Nelson, is practicing today, wearing No. 49.
* Reid again reiterated the reasons for the team's struggles -- turnovers in the red zone and penalties. He declined to get into specifics about the reasons behind the turnovers. He also again stressed that the goal at this point is to get better.
Same old sh*t. Reid is proud of Young? Well, that says a lot. I think Young remains second on the depth chart because his salary figure is second. This management is asleep at the wheel. It isn't the gold standard, it's the goldBRICK standard. Lpaul- The $40M con artist is funnier then BOZO the CLOWN was and just a notch above Young in the dumbness ratings---the laughing from outside Philly is coming form Arthur Blank & Jeff Fisher.
jwatson - Don't call anyone or anything dumb, when you don't even know the difference between then and than. You're the idiot.

I have no problem with Reid backing his players, and not knocking them, it is the harder thing to do then just blasting his players. The ones that do not perform will not be back, that is the way reid has run things since he has been here. Get rid of players, but never same a bad thing about the player or their performance. It gets frustrating at times, but it is his style. camasbud
It's up to management... Grazman
And when asked the follow-up question "what is the reason for turnovers in the redzone and penalties," Reid revealed that the HC, DC, and OC suck, as do their schemes.
Here are some follow-up questions I'd love to see Reid asked - "Why are we 13 weeks into the season and you still can't get your players in a better position to make plays?" Or, "In what ways are you not putting your players in a better position to make plays?" Or, is your DC and OC putting your players in a better position to make plays?" Or, "when it was 4th and goal and you ran Celek to the corner in a fade route, who put Celek in that position, and who didn't put McCoy in a position to pound the freakin' ball into the end zone?" ZZZZZZZZZZZ, as if we couldn'tve guessed what Reid would say. All that above is par for the course. And of course, 4-8 is what we have. Panthro2011
Giant and Cowboys tie on sunday night, and an Eagles victory. Vick gets the Eagles back on track. DREAM TEAM sec719
Still waiting for the “breaking news” report that Juan was let go and Fat Joe from Eddies burger barn was called in to implement a new cheeseburger defence! With all this talent who needs a real defensive coordinator 2011
Getting rid of over half our starters (which would be other team's backups) is not the problem....they will jsut be replaced by retreads, 5th, 6th, & 7th round low talent players selected by our astute GM, Howie, the mail boy, water boy, Joe's valet and attorney..... so nothing will change and Andy will continue to collect his check because he is too complacent to fight it out with Jeffrey and Joe....and he likes his big fat check... nuggett
The best thing VY did last Thurs was that block. If they teach him to catch maybe he could play TE. jjthree
Yes Virgina, once upon a time there were several castles in Philly. Franklin Field had seats allocated for people with backsides of about 6 inches, quarters were close, but the roar from within was full of passion. There was the castle of the Vet, a place with rats the size of cats, and where the crazy knights of the 700 sections ruled. In both cases the players on the field for the most part played their hearts out and were appreciated. Yes, dear those days are long gone. they can't be called the glory days, for no glory was delivered, but people lived and breathed Eagles football. The Linc is but a still politically corect, tomb for the dead, where tickets are given away, and players lay down and die. The passion, you say, its gone after so many years of answers like the ones above. Why bother, we just don't care anymore. Maybe a franchise QB, to go with a new coach, and GM, will bring it back, but I think maybe too many of the players have turned to the dark side and joined the NBA players outlook towards fans and their team. PASSION-for who for what? thesource1975
ZZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz...Same stuff by Reid over and over. frank105
At 4 and 8 what else would the goal be? tpizza
Actually a Giants-Cowboys Tie would be the worst-case scenario for the Eagles. PhillyFaninNYC
