Reid: Vick OK for Opener, Foles Starts Fri.
Les Bowen, Daily News Staff Writer
Eagles coach Andy Reid said Wednesday that quarterback Michael Vick and his bruised ribs should be ready for the Sept. 9 season opener, as expected. Reid said if this were the regular season, Vick would probably play Friday, when the Eagles visit the Browns in their third preseason game.
Reid said, though, that this being the preseason, Vick is unlikely to play Friday. (Unlikely, as in "no way in heck.") Rookie sensation Nick Foles is scheduled to start, his first exposure to first-team defenders, Reid noted.
Reid said his offensive and defensive starters will play the first quarter. But with Foles and Trent Edwards the only healthy QBs, Foles might play the entire first half, he said.
Reid said he isn't concerned about the fact that Vick made it through only six snaps in each of the first two preseason games, after the Eagles spent the offseason emphasizing how important it was to keep the QB healthy. "It was a pretty good shot he took" from Patriots linebacker Jermaine Cunningham Monday night, Reid said. Reid said such things were part of the game.
*Reid said corner Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, who left the Patriots game with a shoulder injury, will practice today.
*Reid said he likes "a little fire," such as Cullen Jenkins showed in getting in Reid's face after the coach upbraided Jenkins (and the defensive line, apparently) following New England's first touchdown. "It means something to him," Reid said.
*Reid said the nickel corner competition between rookie Brandon Boykin and vet Joselio Hanson remains open. He agreed Boykin has narrowed the gap since training camp began.
No offseason last year was the excuse, only 11 passes in preseason this year will be the excuse. Sidewinder7
Hanson looked good to me in last preseason game. Everyone in a hurry to replace him, but he was making plays and at least playing fast from what I saw. Good problem to have. DRC does look lightning fast in his closing speed though as weve heard through camp, now if he can just keep his head in the game he could have a great yr. peteike
Excuse or no excuse.... if the eagles do not make a deep run this year, Reid will not be extended (and subsequently thrown into the FO as no owner is going to let a coach out there as a lame duck) and Vick will be cut loose and not owed another cent on the remainder of his "contract". jl4045801
preseason doesn't matter bc3030
drc does look good but he seems to always be getting the vick syndrome you know constantly getting hurt... defroe- "Rookie Sensation" LOL. You Philly fans are so quick to tear down your star athletes. I'm an Eagles fan out of Atlanta, but Philly has THE WORSE FANS in the country, HANDS DOWN. Writers too (except Shiel) elijah29
- No most of these people have never thought Vick was any good. They are usually just intermixed by the blind Vick supporters who are currently hiding under rocks.

Agree with peteike. Hanson seems like the only one making tackles when an opposing player makes it past the d-line. gho_matt
Rumor on ESPN has Vick being traded to Dallas for Romo. Any thoughts? Anyone like that trade? Bobby V
Some of you are fools, why would you put Foles behind this Eagles line, the Same line that is working in a new scheme and philosophy which is less than 2 years old and subject a less mobile Quarterback to the pounding and beating that Vick takes?
That's what happen to Kevin Kolb, I refuse to believe that Kolb is that horrible it's the accumulative effects of the pounding that ruined Kolb, and in the NFC East, where some of the best Defensive Lines in Football calls their home, it's not a good decision to expose a rookie to the Giants, Cowboys and Redskins without first having an Offensive Line that is confident and who has worked out all of the kinks of adapting to a new scheme.
Foles showed he can take a good shot in the New England game, but of you can't keep the Patriots off of your Quarterback, how are you going to produce a protective pocket against the opponents in the NFC East?
Dexter
Romo would be a huge failure in Philly behind this line, he's a scrub behind the Dallas line now. Which contending team is afraid of Dallas with Romo?
Anybody getting Romo in a trade is working backwards. Dexter- So I see alot of people saying that o-line sucks....then why are you guys mad at Vick for being hurt?
No QB can survive if the line sucks, even the newly annointed "Preseason Sensation" Nick freakin Foles.
Cmon people!!!!!! Why does this city always hate the STARTING QB's?!?!? This is the dumbest fan base in the world. You people wanted Jeff Garcia and Kevin Kolb over Vick?!? UNBELIEVABLE!! And you people are supposed to be "knowledgeable" fans LOL.
Vick for MVP.
He will prove you all wrong (again) and you'll claim you always liked him as a QB. Freakin frauds elijah29 - The only thing Vick has done well since game 10 on camera. Everything he as done on the field since looks more like the Vick of 2004. The Vick that couldn't win a playoff game. The Vick that Jim Johnson put a muzzle on and totally eliminated as a factor in his prime in the playoffs (pun intended). The Vick that was allowed to do well enough to get paid and repay the banks he owed back as he sold enough Jerseys to fools like you to buy PITA off and make the NFL owners a lot of money. Well the fix ain't in anymore chump and the officials are going to continue to swallow their whistles this year, I got news for you. He's going to get creamed out there all season, or as much of it as he spends off the IR. And if he does make it look for him to look confused in the playoffs when he has to read a complex scheme as we get eliminated by the second round. There's fools gold in them there hills.
- I'd trade Vick for Romo straight up and I'll throw a bag of chips in. Whatever fire and motivation he had in 2010 when he played some of the best QB on the planet has vanished as in poof, all gone.
