Reid: 'I did a terrible job'

POSTED: Sunday, September 23, 2012, 7:31 PM

Eagles coach Andy Reid took responsibility for his team's 27-6 loss Sunday to the Arizona Cardinals.

"They played better than we did," Reid said. "Clearly better. Coached better, they played better. That’s my responsibility.

"I didn’t have my football team ready to play. They did. My hat’s off to them.

"I have to get my football team ready to play. I did a terrible job this week."

Last year of hearing that same excuse. If I said that at my job every time I fail, would not have a job.

After reading these responses, I'm starting to believe that Philly fans are educated.

Reid is a QB Killer who sets up his QB for failure, with his play calling. He is the ONLY coach who is known for defenses bragging that they knew what specific plays he'd call at any given time.

Even last season, Belichick refused to go into a goal-line stand on 1st and goal inside the 5-yard line, because he knew Reid would pass, and of course, they stopped the Eagles from scoring.

Reid (to his credit) came to the Eagles ahead of the curve on the passing frenzy. He was playing against a weak NFC East, bent on stopping the run. Reid's passing game took advantage of the rule changes.

He also had some leftover talent from Rhodes and got lucky with McNabb, Westbrook and Jim Johnson's bend-but-don't break, goal-line-strong defense.

He threw more passes than even Air Coryell, but used mediocre receivers for 5 years. Coryell, of course, had John Jefferson, Kellen Winslow & Co.

After finally getting a No. 1, breaking records and going to the SB, Reid went RIGHT BACK to using mediocre receivers for 2 additional years. He traded out of the 1st repeatedly and drafted Kolb while we were in SB contention. Why didn’t we go all in when the window was open?

Drafting Kolb, alone, set the franchise back at least 5 years. Okay, we’ve a couple of players for Kolb, but are we in SB contention? So, what good was it?

Well, Reid’s about to go "all-out!" GOOD RIDDANCE!

The fish stinks from the head down. What could Andy possibly have been thinking @ first half 0:06 to not elect to take the sure 3 points? Stupid beyond understanding.
'Terrible job?' No. A job no longer worthy of keeping. Hit the road, Andy & take Vick with you.

Bad play-calling. Too pass heavy against constant all-out blitzing. Anyone on the coaching staff ever heard of a draw play or screen pass? How about a 3 step drop instead of constant deep drop plays for Vick against the blitz? Horrible blitz pick-up blocking schemes as well. The offense didn't play well or execute, but they were out-coached too.

Why would Reid give up his 4.5 million dollar a year "job". He gets to play with his goofy passing plays to midget recievers all week in his head, claim he works "20 hours a day" lose horribly on sunday, and then makes up excuses at the press conference on sunday night. Hes not even good at that as he has used the same 4 excsuses for 14 years. Something is wrong with the guy, and its not going to result in a superbowl victory. Calling more pass plays then any other coach in NFL history has failed EVERY YEAR and will continue to fail EVERY YEAR until he is FIRED.

jinG, stop pretending you know something about football. It's just that Vick is an inept overhypted quarterback and that is Andy's fault because he is the one who picked Vick and McNabb before him while other teams were getting Aaron Rodgers, Eli Manning, Drew Brees. He refused to go after Payton Manning because he thought he had the best quarterback in the NFL. Hey Jeffey Lurie, were you watching the player that Reid said was worth a hundred million today???????

Andy Reid has no shame. He's so arrogant always repeating the same old lines after a crushing loss knowing the Eagles fans love the brand so much they'll put up with anything. As someone who wants to see Vick/Reid hit the highway, it was such a great moment when Vick fumbled at the end of the half. I've decided to choose the Vikings as the team to follow this year because I'm sick of supporting a brand that does nothing but fail & then shrug their shoulders. Kolb showed them what they're missing. Vick should've been the one traded for DRC. I smell a Sunday night massacre next week vs. the Giants. Of course the Birds will be 2-2 after that one so they'll be the ones getting massacred.

This is a bad, bad football team. Barely beat an NCAA team week 1 and got absolutely pulverized by a seemingly innocuous Arizona team today. I guess they showed some semblance of being a competitive team last week but let's face it: they barely beat a Baltimore team coming off a Monday Night game in our home opener if not for a bad officiating call.

Our offense is totally inept with against a defense that has speed and linebackers/safeties that can cover the middle of the field. Our 6 foot nothing QB and midget WRs stand no chance of maintaining consistent drives.

To add insult to injury we were completely out-maneuvered by D-coordinator Ray Horton today. Oh yeah, the guy who was hired a week after we hired an offensive line coach to be our D-Coordinator. This would all be funny if it weren't revolving around the laughing stock of the NFC East - the only one that has never sniffed a Lombardi Trophy.

I'm sure the lapdogs such as TNEaglesFan and his brethren will tell us how this is just one loss and the 49ers lost to a bad Vikings team and on any given Sunday...yadda yadda yadda.

But I guess when your franchise is the epitome of NFL mediocrity the only thing you can grasp onto is rationalizations and excuses as a replacement for actual consistent results and progress.

Sadly there are still people in this town who are afraid to lose Andy Reid and Howie Roseman because they don't think they can be adequately replaced. LOL.

By the way, none of our rookies would even sniff the top 12 in NFL Rookie of the Year so far through the first 20% of the season - especially after their dreadful performance today.

a couple of things..when i saw on the first series they were three straight pass plays..first thing out my mouth its back to being pass heavy and this is a game we are gonna lose. did anyone notice the cardinals linebackers playing and cheating inside which gave them the edge..and they didnt figure that out until the 4th quarter and started running on the edge..while the game is out of reach i might add. u saw the cardinals strength is against the pass when they played the patriots yet they passed almost every down..while vick is turnover prone u saw the great tom brady get hammered..did the coaching staff even look at that game..i mean sheesh..u have to have balance..notice all of reids qbs get hurt alot. mcnabb, kolb, vick. he is a qb killer i swear..its time for reid to go its tiring seeing a pass happy offense..if ur qb is off and ur receivers arent getting open why do u keep calling pass? i agree with a article jason whitlock wrote about reid on fox sports. reid is a moron..i dont care how many playoff and regular season games he won. he is the weak link. one play in particular made me decide that reid is a idiot. it was a penalty on the cardinals for holding and there was a sack on the play..if the penalty was declined it would have been 3rd and 24..dummy accepted the penalty and it was 2nd and 26..why would u give a team two cracks at picking up the first down for 2 freaking yards! smh..and fitzgerald almost got it too. this coach is clueless. i dont think this team is going to be bad..the players will win more games in spite of reid not because of him, i really hope this is his last year..i cant take this bad coaching anymore..i understand players are the ones that play the game and have to execute, but when u have a clueless set of offensive coaches, they doom the players. i used to back reid but not anymore..i never seen such bad coaching like this in quite awhile.

Why the heck is Vick under center for the 3 plays at the end of the half, especially after you chose not to run on the first play. After that EVERYONE knows the next play will be a pass so put him in the shotgun so that he doesn't have to waste time backpeddling. Wow, Reid was back to his old self today.

How come this keeps happening? When there are six seconds left in the half, you have to throw a slant or fade, and you have to do it right away of throw the ball away. Why does our QB always hold the ball as if he has all the time in the world? I mean, what happened down there has happened so many times over the last 10 years I've lost count. This is about as fundamental a football play as there is.

Time for the hook. There is absolutely no excuse for bad preparation - and this isn't the first time. As for in game decisions, I am convinced that Reid may be the only coach who OUTSMARTS himself time and time again. I really believe the guy is stupid. He makes the same mistakes over and over again expecting different results. By some lights that is a definition of insanity.

The combination of a coach who is horrible at play calling and time management, paired with a QB who is too dumb to read a defense or recognize a blitz is not a good one. When I see Manning throw an INT (or even a TD) he goes to the sidelines and studies photos of what the defense was showing him to LEARN for next time. Vick goes back and sits on the bench with a blank stare on his face. I have had enough of both of these fools.

Every human being is entitled to make a mistake..that's acceptable.
What seperates the intelligent and smart from the moronic, stupid and unexecusable is those that continue to make the same mistake over and over thinking they will get a different result.
So it is with Vick, Reid and Marty.
Vick himself has said he needs to throw the ball away more when it's not there. He also said he needs to slide more and stop taking hits.
Well you saw it now for 3 weeks in a row. Put Vick squarely in the same mistake over and over category..unintelligent and just plain dumb.
He may win a game with his feet..he may even win you a game with his arm..but Vick will never, ever, win you a game with his head.
Reid and Marty.. well, they've been in that category for years.
predictable, inflexible, unadaptable and have kept their jobs despite underperforming for years. Wish I could get away with that.
12 T.O.'s and the 2nd most penalized team in the league tells you
just how undiciplined this team really is. And that my friends is squarely on the coaches. (BTW, the same with Laviolette. over rated, over paid underperformer)
All 3 need to go..the sooner the better..

Laviolette isn't over rated, they obviously made a mistake handing the LA Kings the cup through bartering their own talent....two finesse teams the Niners and Rams win with the West Coast Passing...ALL the others play power football. The West Coast offense only works with heady QB's.

I think people need to start channeling their frustrations at the man who truly deserves it: Jeffrey Lurie. It's not Andy's fault that Lurie keeps trotting Reid out there, year after year, even though the guy has proven that he's incapable of winning a Super Bowl. Andy is doing the best that he can. The guy is just not very bright and is incapable of learning from his mistakes. Lurie is a fraud of an owner. 18 years and no Super Bowl.

Why wait to fire the coach who can't game plan, manage a clock, or create an offensive approach that leverages a balanced offense and saves his quarterback from long term disability? Jeff Lurie doesn't need an excuse to wait to pull the trigger. Andy Reid has given him 3 weeks or reasons.

The NFL may be a passing league but for god's sake, run the damn football at least 50% and make the other team earn the win.

What an awesome gameplan! 25 passes 5 runs in the first half with a shaky OL and fragile QB. Don't run the ball at all when the game is still close, and then run the ball once you're out of it. Pure win...and by win, I mean fail.

Why is it that other teams find ways to make adjustments to being blitzed, but Mike Vick's adjustment is to drop back way to deep, look around the field and just hold on to the ball until he gets hit (at which point he fumbles the ball)? Isn't it time we declared the Michael Vick experiment a failure and moved on? There are plenty of offensive weapons on this team. All the QB needs to do is identify what the opposing defense is giving you and take it. If you're getting blitzed on almost every play, there's got to be someone open. Unfortunately Vick can't seem to figure that out.

Where was Harbor ? Where was Avant ? Gilyard ? How about spreading the Cards out with 4 WRs eliminating the blitz packages that include safeties ? Years ago, AR had stuff no one had seen much. Now, all that stuff has been documented and counter measures on defense developed. Defenses call out our plays, just like the old shovel pass inside the 5 yard line. Either these offensive coaches are that stupid, stubborn or both. It's one game in an early season but the Cards did the same thing to us last year. Wake up.
