WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -- As is the custom, Andy Reid was asked the annual question as to whether the Eagles are ready to compete for a Super Bowl championship this season.
His answer: "Yes. That’s what makes it exciting. I think we have a good group coming back. As long as we build on what we did (late) last year, which I think is important in this case. Every year is different. I understand that. But we’ve got to take the momentum that we finished with and build on it and continue to get better."
The Eagles won the last four games of the regular season to finish 8-8, as you remember.
Owner Jeffrey Lurie after the season made a reference to those wins as being "fool's gold."

Eagles fans on here almost make me hate being an Eagles fan. I'm not sure I want to be associated with most of you. If you can't be optimistic about your team after free agency and before the draft, I suggest you go stand in front of the mirror and give yourself the finger.— Leegles- Vick, McCoy, DJax, Maclin, Celek, Peters, Herremans, Cole, Jenkins, Babin, Asomugha, Rogers-Cromartie, Ryans. Eagles are pretty set at the skill positions, offensive and defensive lines, and corners. The linebackers and safeties need some work. The rest is depth and competition. - Are you serious. The 49ers defensively can make a run for it and now they added a healthy brandon jacobs to compliment Frank Gore. Reid doesnt want plax i understand that. two guys from prison etc. But are we really placing our superbowl bets on Avant and Cooper for another season? meanwhile the 49ers have Moss,Crabtree,Manningham, Vernon Davis,Gore,Jacobs. If michael floyd drops to 15 and we dont take him EXPECT more of the same from the eagles this year. We another great regular season team but what about when it counts and teams shut down Desean and maclin who steps up. who can vick through the ball up to and expect them to make a play. Brady didnt have that when he needed it the most so they picked up LLoyd from the Rams. If we pick up Floyd and maybe another TE then i would consider a superbowl run.— Yes_General

- Any real fan who watch games cant tell me philly wasnt playn better ball at the end of the season even if we didnt win those games which we won by a double digit margin the defense played better and the off was more efficent (less turnovers freak plays)special teams tailed off botched plays no big returns.This is a new season momentum from last year wont help but the positive end does show resolve......— positive eagle

- The ravens had an elite defense for years. But why do they keep falling short? Flacco did a good job in the play offs so thats not it. They have Ray Rice so thats not it. they need more weapons to compete against the patriots! Who now have Welker, Gronkonski, Hernadez,Ocho,LLoyd,Branch. Defense wins championships but its important that offenses keep the opposing team off the field. Eli took over games and kept his defense off the field by throwing to his 3 TOP receivers. We need another physical receiver. Floyd is the number 2 receiver on the board ranked just behind blackmon. If he's there at 15 our OFFENSE defiantly can use him. - I'm all about the Phillies but figured I'd drop in on the eagles side to see whats what with the Beagles headed into 2012...and holy S$%T you all are a sorry group. Granted I gave up on this team years ago when they had McJunk at the helm but this is a fresh reminder to remain simply a Phillies fan.
