Reid: Castillo, coaches 'will stay intact'

POSTED: Monday, October 3, 2011, 12:15 PM

As criticism of defensive coordinator Juan Castillo mounts after four weeks, Eagles coach Andy Reid said today that the "coaches will stay intact."

"The coaches will stay intact, but we have to thoroughly evaluate everything," Reid said. "We and I evaluate everything ... The coaches will stay intact and we go from there."

Asked specifically about Castillo, Reid said, "Listen, I thnik Juan is doing some good things. If you ask the same question about myself and the other coaches and the players, there are some good things that we’re doing and a lot of things we need to work on. I’m telling you it’s not one person. It’s all of us pulling this thing together and doing our jobs together."

Reid said Castillo will still call the defense and that all the coaches will remain in their same roles.

Asked what that meant for changes to personnel or the scheme on defense, he said, "We look at everything every week. It's no different this week."

"If I can point to one thing, it’s a tough thing to do. We all have to do our jobs better. That’s what we need to do. I think we have the players here to do that and the coaches to do that."

Some other items from Reid's press conference:

On fourth quarter woes: "Each guy needs to take a close look at himself and I have to make sure I’m looking at it closer. We’re not finishing games the way we’re supposed to finish games. That’s the bottom line."

On similarities to problems of the past, such as red zone: "We’ve got to make sure we fix it. I don’t like what I’m seeing. I’m a part of that problem."

On turning things around: "I’m in the business of finding the problem and solving the problem. I know we have good enough players and coaches to do it. I’ve seen enough glimpses of what this thing can be when it’s operating right and it’s important that we get it there."

Overall: "We need to do a better job. I think I’m stating the obvious. Again, I start with myself, the coaches and players. We saw some good things in the first half, but we've got to learn how to carry that over into the second half and in particular in the fourth quarter, where we’ve been terrible. The red zone continues to be a problem on both sides of the ball. We need to make sure we take care of that, and eliminate the turnovers down there offensively, for one thing."

On not having the time needed for the team to come together: "We have zero excuses. We’re hoping to get it right and continue to work hard."

On whether he feared a slow start: "I don't look at it that way. I go into every game looking to win the game."

On the fans' frustrations: "After watching the last three games, I would understand that, but we’re going to keep working hard to get better."

Press wimped out again on Reid at today's press conference. Reid blabbed the same old tired nothingness and received only one tough question which he blew off. Which reporter will step up and ask "ANDY HAVE YOU CONSIDERED RESIGNING? Its time!

The local press isn’t the only folks that have wimped out. The national NFL analysts on NFL network, ESPN, etc. None of them would mention Andy’s short comings but would rather point out a single player. It was Andy who got rid of our pro-bowler kicker for a rookie who choked. Andy promoted the no experience Juan. And it was Andy who’s ignored the problems at the O-line for years. Reid is the GM and coach he is to blame for the mess in Philly.

The Philly media is soft....Philly media once was considered the toughest media in the country, but now has a bunch of sissies afraid to ask Reid tough questions...pathetic.

if you look at their remaining games, this team could easily go 5 and 11 wash ,dallas, twice pats, bills and bears and ny jets and giants. Then we could get what we all want for xmas...Gruden and a whole new staff...

Look. I know its of no use to complain about the coach. What we think is of little use to the FO. I don't buy jerseys, they're not aroud long enough. I do have a choice in whether or not I will spend my Sunday watching Eagles football. It still beats raking leaves, but not by much...

Philly media and fans have gone soft. You never hear anyone get booed. Mike Schmidt would go 3 for 4 with a homer, double and single to start and get booed for striking out in his last at bat. Mike Schmidt is still the best 3rd baseman of all time.

I wish I were a lead in Philadelphia..... That way I know I would get blown!!!!! Hello, is this thing on??

Seriously, this is a joke. Total Keystone cops going on at the Novacare complex. I Have ZERO faith that Andy can "get this thing right" As fans we need to stop supporting this team till he's gone. Mr. Lurie, have you no pride??????

They've come out with the Juan Castillo Eagles Fight Song:

Die Eagles Die, Give Away That Victory.
Fold Eagles Fold, Give Up Touchdowns 1-2-3.

    Miss 'Em Low.
    Miss 'Em High.
And We'll Watch Our Eagles Die.

Die Eagles Die, Give Away That Victory.

Always gave support to Andy Reid cause he brought in Mike Vick. Can't lend support no more. Andy need to get fired. Bring in Gruden, he is a big big Mike supporter and will keep Mike intact.

any mention on the Ronnie Brown dive/throw? Hearing it was a called pass play which seems idiotic if Brown was supposed to dive into line and then throw a pass and who was it supposed to go too anyway? I sure hope it wasn't owen Schmidt (which is what it looked like) as after last weeks goal line I would rather not see Owen on the field at all.

All is not lost, Eagles fan. Unbeknownst to Andy, Jeffrey Lurie decided this season to pay Reid in Greek drachma.
