Reid: 'An absolutely terrible job'

POSTED: Sunday, October 2, 2011, 4:47 PM

The Eagles fell to 1-3 with a 24-23 loss to San Francisco, in which they again squandered a fourth-quarter lead. Here are some of the comments from Andy Reid after the game:

“It was an absolutely terrible job by myself and my football team,” Reid said. “When you have a lead in the National Football League, you build on it and continue to score points. In all areas we were terrible, a lot of yards on offense, 2 for -7 in the red zone, three scoring drives in the second half; our young kicker, he needs to figure it out too just like everyone else.”

Reid was asked about the defense and said “we’re not pointing fingers at anybody. We’re going to take a look at each other and look in the mirror and figure it out.”

The Eagles have been outscored 26-0 in the three consecutive losses in the fourth quarter.

“It’s offense and defense. You can’t sit on leads,” Reid said. “You can’t do that as a football team. That’s what I did with our football here and we lost the football game.”

Asked several times specifically about the fourth quarter, Reid said, “It’s a variety f things. I wish I could tell you it’s one thing.”

An Eagles team that started 1-3 has never made the playoffs under Reid.

“We’re worried about winning football games, we’re not worried about the playoffs right now,” Reid said.

Asked if his message was no longer getting through, Reid said, “I’ve got to do a better job as the head football coach … I don’t care how much talent you have, you have to play as a football team.”

When a reporter broached the question about changes preceded by a reference to not asking, Reid said, “You were right. Don’t ask the question.”

Several times, Reid said. “Bottom line, I have to put the players in right position to make the plays and the players have to make the plays.”

And as for David Akers and Alex Henery both struggling, with Henery missing two kicks that could have been the difference, Reid said, “I’m not getting into irony. It will probably make a good story for you.”

An o-line coach as your de-coordinator, yeah, you need to do a much better job.

I'd be interested in knowing if the defensive players believe in Juan Catillo's system. If the Wide 9 was implemented for improving the Red Zone Defense (& we haven't been shown how it does), then just use it in the Red Zone. It's just another version of a prevent defense (preventing the birds from winning). Andy, your fingerprints are on this.

There's no logic. Obviously Andy has pictures of Joe and Jeff in the shower at summer camp. Can't imagine that there is any other reason for keeping him at this point.

When is Reid going to properly rewarded for his "terrible job" by being sent to the unemployment line?

I'm sick to death of his arrogance, which is all the more nauseating in light of his incompetence in too many key areas.

Isn't it about time for Jeffrey Laurie to realize that while Andy Reid has more testosterone than he does (I think even Laurie's wife has more) Big Red just doesn't have what it takes to win a Super Bowl? How many more years can he stand listening to Reid saying that he's got to put his players in a better position to win? I can't take another week.

The best way to put the Eagles in a better position to win is to kick Andy Reid out the door.

At least the Andy Reid led stomach beat the three Tony Luke's cheesesetaks, so we have that to hang our hats on.

In any other city (except Pittsburgh or Cincinnati) Andy would have been fired a long time ago. He has the SAME EXCUSES week after week, year after year. He has got to go!

And no, I don't think Cowher or Gruden are the answer. There are plenty of talented assistants in the NFL. Cast a wide net and hire the best man for the job. Period.

Time for Reid to go..Castillo as well. Reid was a good coach when he first started but never learned from his mistakes. His ego has gotten in the way of any potential success. His drafts have been poor. He makes Castillo the defensive coordinator. He does these things because he knows more than everyone else. How's that working out?

Andy, you're right. You did a terrible job. Now go resign, take another NFL head coaching position and go do your customary terrible job there.

The average daily intake of calories for a normal man is 3000-3500. Andy consumes 20,000 calories a day, split between two very large meals of 10,000 calories each. By sleeping after a meal of 10,000 calories, Andy's body is able to process them slowly for storage (as fat).
