Reid: Westbrook 'ready to roll'

POSTED: Wednesday, December 23, 2009, 7:11 AM

Eagles running back Brian Westbrook is "ready to roll," Eagles coach Andy Reid said.

Westbrook, who has not played since suffering his second concussion in three weeks against San Diego on Nov. 15, will practice with the first-team offense and is expected to play, barring any unexpected setbacks.

"Unless there is a setback here, I think that’s what he’s counting on and the doctors, and everybody else," Reid said.

Reid said earlier in the week that the team would be keeping close watch of Westbrook's reps and that it could take time to get him back in the lineup. However, Reid said, Westbrook should bring some "fresh legs" to the offense.

Asked whether Westbrook or LeSean McCoy would start, Reid said, "There are different packages that they have, so both of them are going to get practice time and we’re doing it a little bit different than we did before, sort of a rotational deal. I would probably tell you that LeSean has a little bit bigger package. I can’t tell you who’s going to be the guy that is on the field first.”

PREGAME INTROS

A reader wanted to know whether the Broncos' defensive starters would be introduced before Sunday's game, wondering whether Brian Dawkins would be announced and get to burst out onto the Linc field one more time.

An Eagles spokesman said the visitors usually come out all at once as a team, but it is up to the that team to decide how they want to handle it. As for the Eagles, they alternate between offense and defense each home game.

UPDATE: Broncos coach Josh McDaniels said on a conference call with the Philadelphia media that the Broncos will have the defense introduced.

PRIME TIME FINALE?

The Eagles-Dallas game on Jan. 3 seems like a good candidate to be moved to the prime-time game on NBC for Week 17, even though it would mean back-to-back Sunday night appearances for the Cowboys. Dallas plays Washington this Sunday night.

In order to get the best possible matchup for the final Sunday nighter, the league does not have to select a game until six days before the game, rather than the usual time frame. However, you can probably expect an announcement at some point late in the Cowboys-Redskins game.

Some other possibilities could be the Giants-Vikings game, Steelers-Dolphins or perhaps Colts-Bills, if Indy is going for a perfect regular season.

More on this subject from Barry Horn in the Dallas Morning News.

TIEBREAKERS

Tim MacMahon, of ESPNDallas.com, provides an extensive look at all the possible tiebreaker scenarios in the NFC East involving the Eagles, Cowboys and Giants. Click here.

If the Eagles win this week and the Cowboys lose, then the Eagles will win the division. If the Eagles and Cowboys both lose this weekend and the Giants win out, then the Eagles win the division.

If the Cowboys beat the Redskins, then the Eagles-Cowboys game determines the division winner, regardless of how the Eagles do against the Broncos. Or if the Eagles lose to Denver and the Giants don't win their remaining games, then the Week 17 game also will determine the division winner.

STAT OF NOTE

With the Eagles suddenly finding some balance on offense and sticking with the running game, note that the Broncos are 22nd in the league against the run, allowing 116.9 yards per game, and second against the pass, allowing 177.5 yards per game.

Dr. Michael is a troll who only makes comments about Vick. Its apparent from the garbage he posts that he has no clue about football or perspective..

workhard - Uh, yeah, I've made mistakes....However, stringing up and electrocuting dogs was not one of them. Setting up brutal dog fights wasn't one of them. Slaughtering losers and injured animals wasn't one of them, nor was drowning them or betting on them. That's not a "mistake", it's sociopathic activity that doesn't "get better". The guy is garbage....

I see an outpouring of pure, sick hatred in several postings here. And I am sure a GREAT number of people, worldwide, share these feelings. And I would much rather see people getting it off their chests in these postings, instead of hunting him down and doing him or his property, physical harm. Despite the fact that many thousands of people in this country commit MUCH more heinous and despicable crimes, and are incarcerated for it, cruelty to animals is a white-hot button issue.I'm not a "Peta" guy, but I had a small dog that stayed with me when ex-wife took off and left him behind. I grew to love that little brown curly haired dude as if he were my son. He was the ONLY "person" that I had daily "hands on" contact with. My children live far enough away that I only see them every couple of months. I am retired, and my parents and sister have all passed away. The loneliness was making steady advances , and two years ago ...to the day actually....I was forced to take him to the vet to be put to sleep. My poor lil' guy was very sick and could barely stand up, or eat, or anything else. But I could put him on my lap, and stroke his back, and talk with him and tell him again and again how much I loved him.....and he would look me in the eye, and I KNEW he loved me back. I held him when the injection was given, and he slipped away with a final, heavy sigh. And I started doing the most difficult thing I have ever done in my life....went home and continued with my life, without my boy to help me through the days. So I was prepared to HATE Vick when he got here. But hate does not help, and MINDLESS hate is responsible for 99% of the evil in this world. It is OK to hate him....and it is OK to love him. But think about it a little bit....and maybe pick up a pen, instead of a hammer. Or pound out a letter, instead of pounding out HIM. And Merry Christmas to everybody, and even Michael Vick. Or rather, especially, Mr. Vick.

Excellent pronouncement about moral relativism. Astute observation. Impeccable logic. Someone somewhere sometime does something contrary to our standards of ethics, morality or humanity? Then, of course, we should lower...abolish...those standards. Absolutely. It was cool for them, then, there. Should be cool for us here, now.

Hope they make the decision to announce the players including at least Denver's Defense. Rattle off the names of the players and save Dawk. for last. The way it should be, a no-brainer... Fans win or loose will hear his name when they announce it for each of his tackles (he's got 100 already this season :P - and he'll get a few more Sunday ;). I know Dawk & Buck will be chosen team captains for Denver, I'm curious who the Eagles will send out..? My guess - McNabb, Westbrook, Brown & Mikell or Akers. Influence the outcome of the game - no - just emotional, like the post-game prayer after the game, whomever wins...

Giving this award to Vick a sick sociopath is an insult to all the previous recipients. Reid continues to live in denial and burty his head in the sand. Much like he did while raising his children! I have low, I mean no expectations from a bunch of knuckle dragging neanderthals coached by the biggest knuckle dragger of them all. I hope Reid's sons showed courage when they dropped their soap in the prison shower! Then they can get an award too! The Eagles are scum and always will be. Where is the courage in signing a $1.6m contract after leaving prison, keeping his $16m signing bonus and driving his Bentley? Are a lot of other ex-cons afforded this? I cannot wait until this piece of toxic waste is removed from this earth followed by Reid and Lurie!

Yes, took a lot of courage to electrocute, drown and smash the skulls of defenseless animals (and what else...drug, starve, beat?) then laugh at their pain, suffering and death...oh, yeah...forgot the part about gambling, weed, herpes and subsidizing a whole platoon of sycophantic lowlives. And then lying repeatedly about it all. Manly stuff, for sure. But hey, signing a multi-million dollar contract, publicly acknowledging a "mistake" (getting caught, maybe?...a "mistake", like sprinkling salt in your coffee instead of sugar...a "mistake"...singular...yeah, right) and let's not overlook tirelessly giving all those "talks" to all those countless kids, hosting all those awareness rallies, giving all those anti animal cruelty press conferences, appearing at all those shelters, donating all that new-found money to all those rescue groups. All that "pro active" activity the coach prattled on about & all that extreme, extraordinary, over-the-top, way-more-than-average penance & good works & changing hearts and minds that the owner so self servingly & sanctimoniously anguished over...in front of all those cameras & microphones. Yep, so courageous, so selfless. So inspiring. Expressing all that remorse, that heartfelt, oh-so-tearing-up raw regret...not at the torture of creatures in his care, the betrayal of teammates and supporters, the dishonesty & dissembling, the arrogance of evil, the despicable role modeling... but at the sheer pinnacle of self-absorbed, narcissistic loss...the luxury life style interrupted, sponsorships dropped, bankruptcies filed, all the entitlements flushed (not to mention, the slammer time earned)...absolutely, award worthy. Que the applause, the standing O, the boundless admiration. What's next? Medal of Freedom? Nobel? Canonization? Michael Vick..a real, live American hero. Go Eagles...pat yourselves even more...best organization in the NFL...gold standard, indeed.

As long as he is scoring touchdowns and helping the team win I say everyone deserves a second chance, and stop bashing him. If he starts to fumble and cost the Eagles games, then lets boo the dog killer out of town.

Eagles fans should be happy. Vick has demonstrated that he still has the same athletic ability by making a few big plays. This award shows that he can be a good team mate. C'mon folks, the Eagles have a good chance of getting a 2nd round pick for him in the off-season. Be happy.

I know there are scenarios where we can win the division and still lose the last game to the 'Boys, but man I don't want that to happen - to lose to them twice during the regular season.

I have no problem with them choosing Vick. I do, however, think Dixon is the better choice. He's contributed more throughout the season and has a much tougher story of courage and strength.

Are they serious? What courage did he show? He wanted to make back the millions he lost, so he went back to football. He only admits to a "mistake". The degree to which his dogfighting grew is more than a mistake. It happened more than once. In fact, it happened so often he created separate buildings on his property to house the fights and dogs and witnessed the killing of dogs that were not successful fighters. Courage would have been sitting defenseless while a dog attacked him. I've seen no remorse about the crime, only about getting caught and being separated from his family. I continue to root against him and the hypocrites that signed him.

NFC East Title is the most important objective at this time. Let's hope we win and Cowboys loose. Then we can focus on next objective, 2nd seed in NFC

My God! Bronco's are 22nd against run and 2nd against pass. MARTY must be planning 60 pass plays; hope he has learned a little since the Chargers game.

Good for #7 & the rest of the team for recognizing him. He's accepted his role admirably and at least lately has shown some playmaking ability. Hopefully that continues and he garners the Eagles a nice draft pick cause I don't see him being a starter here or getting $5M to be a novelty next year. Good luck Mike Vick

Doesn't FOX have the right to protect one game from moving to Sunday night? If that is still the case, I would expect the Eagles game vs. Dallas not to move.

First you sign a violent psychopath. Then you convince 60 people to honor him. This is a group of people I'm supposed to care about? What a bunch of cowards, not one can stand up to having a violent loser in their midst.
