Andy Reid will utter the first "time's yours" of the summer next Monday evening when he begins his 10th training camp as Eagles coach. Rookies and selected veterans report that day and are on the field for the first time the following morning, at 8:45 a.m.
The Eagles do have a little bit of work to do before then, as their top two draft choices -- second-rounders Trevor Laws and DeSean Jackson -- remain unsigned. The team has agreed to terms with their other eight selections.
While we were away, a few Eagles items did catch our eye. Some have probably been talked about already among Eagles fans, but in case you missed it ...
* Donovan McNabb to USA Today on the Eagles' window of opportunity: "I think the window is stuck. It's not closed, and it's not open anymore. We all have to kind of squeeze through and get the job done."
* The Patriots' Wes Welker to USA Today about Asante Samuel not re-signing with the Patriots for his big-money deal with the Eagles: "Asante's a great player, so it hurts not to have a guy like that. But then again, it's part of the business of the game. He chose money over championships, and that's the way it goes sometimes."
* The Sporting News ranks the Eagles as having the fourth best quarterbacks in the NFC. The Cowboys, Saints and Seahawks rank ahead of the Birds. The Giants are fifth and the Redskins are 10th. In case you were wondering, the Packers are 12th. We presume that was with Aaron Rodgers as the starter.
* ESPN.com ranks Brian Westbrook as the third best player in the league for fantasy football. LaDainian Tomlinson and Adrian Peterson are ranked ahead of him. The rankings project Westbrook with 12 total touchdowns in 2008. He had seven rushing and five receiving last season.
