On Boldin and Peters

POSTED: Thursday, March 12, 2009, 8:53 AM

Those 12 draft picks the Eagles have stockpiled are attracting much speculation.

ESPN's John Clayton has mentioned in a couple of venues that the Birds could be involved in trades for either Arizona wideout Anquan Boldin or Buffalo Pro Bowl left offensive tackle Jason Peters.

Obviously, it would probably be impossible to pull off both acquisitions. Just as obviously, neither Boldin nor Peters officially is available.

Scuttlebutt holds that the Cards are more likely to part with Boldin than the Bills are with Peters - the Cards are already paying Larry Fitzgerald.

Peters would leave a huge hole in Buffalo's rebuilding scheme, although he seems disgruntled and wants a new contract. The Bills already have released guard Derrick Dockery, who signed with Washington, and tight end Robert Royal, who signed with Cleveland.

John Clayton throws out his conjecture as if he knows something. Anytime he says something it is purely his speculation and not based on any "inside information."

dankil13, Your dead wrong. Drafting a stud RB will give the Offense the balance it has been LACKING for 10 years. Beanie Wells is the real deal. Too much speed and power to ignore if your defending. It forces the opposing D to stay honest ( unless they want to get gashed ) and will open up the passing game that much more.Balance dude. Balance.

MJPD345, I like you thought about Wells. However I don't know if he will translate well at the next level. I could be wrong but I don't remember him doing well against anyone good. Does anyone have his stats in bowl games or fast active defenses like USC or the SEC? Is Wells a violent runner? How will he hold up over time? I am also reluctant to trust big 10 RBs. the last kinda good one I remember was maybe MB3.

we get neither. The trade that's really going to happen is that the Eagles move to 11-15 in the first round to get the LT of the future. Boldin completes the annual "Star WR" rumor in Philadelphia, although Peters is a different type of rumor for Philadelphia - much better talk than "Sign Orlando Pace". My hope is that they do draft twice in the first round, and that both of those players have week 1 starting calibur that is fulfilled.

Boldin would make this offseason a success instantly. I think the Oline is okay after last years young guards getting some much needed experience. Wouldnt surprise me if Runyan is back after rehabbing, but its a longshot. Weaver needs to get signed. TE, RB, and depth on defense is what is needed in the draft. Saw one report of eagles working out maryland Hayward-Bey WR soon? Would you rather have Boldin or Julius Peppers?

and yes, I do understand the Eagles standard "Rookie Red Shirt" Philosophy. DeSean broke it in 2008, I hope a few more do in 2009.

Probowl??? he only goes when the number 1 choices are hurt or too busy to play...perennial backup Dierte you should know that since you talk to Mc Puke when you cut his lawn....getting him receiver is tough sine you have to find one who can jump backwards for the passes thrown behind him, jump 15 feet in the air for all the overthrows, slither on the ground for all of the dirtballs thrown, and have 30 foot arms to reach all of the other bad throws....Can we draft one of the xmen? I think elastic man is available.....
