Numerology, and more Lito analysis

POSTED: Wednesday, April 30, 2008, 6:15 PM

In case you want to run right out and have a special replica jersey made, the Eagles have assigned their new players numbers, as they prepare for the mandatory minicamp that begins Saturday. Yes, Lito Sheppard is still 26, for today, anyhow. But I'll bet you didn't know that Frantz Hardy is No. 16.

Also, if you have a 93 jersey, you can just rip Jevon Kearse's name off the back and stick Trevor Laws on there.

Similar good news for the legion of Koy Detmer fans: DeSean Jackson is No. 10.

Elsewhere, NFL.com's Pat Kirwan looks at unfinished trade business around the NFL, which shockingly enough is topped by the Eagles and Lito. Wouldn't it be nice if Situation No. 1 and Situation No. 5 on Kirwan's list could find a mutual resolution?

Too bad this happened like this, having Samuel and Sheppard and Brown as the corners would of been great. Unfornately, Lito does not have a leg to stand on with the fans, he used his injuries as an excuse not to get back on the field as quick as he could of when we needed him, because of his contract. He hurt the team and the fans, which makes him dead in this town. Anyone who does not agree with that, is not a true Eagles fan.

I disagree that anyone who does not agtee with Jason's position is not a true Eagles fan. People can have different opinions and still be a "true" Eagles fan. Maybe Andy has been looking at things through rose colored glasses, but he's just asking for a big distraction if he thinks his plan to play the three CBs together is going to work to everyone's satisfaction. Unless he's prepared to sweeten Lito's contract, which I doubt that he is, he should have traded him for the best offer he got and be done with it. It would be over now and everyone could move on. Now he's got a potential mess on his hands.

I guess you are right, you can disagree if you like. The point is I think the relationship now is really bad, both sides being wrong, and he will never play for the team. I think if he is not traded by training camp, he gets traded for practically nothing. Wish it were different.

I see how this can work! slide Dawk to SS to prolong his career, slide Brown to the FS and Lito to the right side. When Lito gets hurt (again) slide everyone to their natural spots. Seriously even though Brown's never played safety he'll have one of the best to learn from and for the Eagles to have someone at SS that can cover AND help in run support would be HUGE!!

Lito will have to play come august / sept. I don't seeing him be disruptive a la T.O. He has zero leverage. To his defense if he could have come back from injury earlier he would have. He wasnt upset over his contract in the middle of last year. He became upset when Samuel and Hall got big money contracts this off-season. Jason is 100% off base.

Don't worry about it folks, what we think is of little value, they will do what they think is best for the team. yes, we care what they do but we are just observers!

Here's a solution, since the Eagles are now going to get next to nothing for Lito anyway. Stick with me here. Tear up his contract, and give him a 1 year contract for a little more money (no big raise). What does that do? Lito is now officially in a "contract" year, meaning he is going to play his buns off for the free agent payday next year. Bet you he gets along just fine with Asante and Sheldon in that case and he doesn't get hurt either. Now we just bought 1 more productive year from Lito with the strongest corner trio in the league. And remember, it's probably McNabb's last season here too. The window is closing, so let's just lock and load for this season and go for it NOW. If it doesn't work, Lito's gone, and the Kevin Kolb era begins in 2009(for better or worse). THIS IS PROBABLY OUR LAST CHANCE WITH MCNABB AT THE HELM!

I'm tired of athletes whining and moaning about money. The Eagles have all the leverage here. Just tell him he can either sit on the bench or play nickel corner. He'll make the right decision soon enough. I doubt he'd even sit more than 2 or 3 games. In the locker room he is a much better person than T.O.

Of couorse Reid has to sound optimistic about rotating the three corners - if he said we have to get rid of Lito you can imagine how little would be offered for him. Reid is likely bluffing.

Teams won't need a CB until the 3rd game of the pre-season when they realize the 4th receiver is running past the new draft pick and the veteran just tore his ACL. Then they'll call the Eagles.

...uh....hey JASON...would HAVE (not "of") ...and Could HAVE (not "of")...also on the "not agreeing" makes you "not" a true Eagles fan... there is at least a possibility (remote, maybe, but still possible) that they can work out all this disgruntled attitude for their good players (B-West, Lito, Sheldon Brown) who for some stupid reason, now feel "underpaid" (or maybe..."under over-paid"?) compared to what some other guys are getting now....of course, they should grown the hel up...but I guess they're always comparing paychecks and griping over and grubbing even MORE MONEY.... them Iggles just gotta cough up maybe a little more face-saving dough.... and, as one writer already said on this possibility...maybe HELL is gonna freeze over, too! BY-THE-WAY: cg's suggestion sounds interesting

Should he change his name to LIMBO SHEPPARD? Never liked the guy, always ball hawking and never covering his man. Gets pushed around and for the most part gets beat unless a ball is misthrown and somehow lands in his lap. He gets my vote as the most overated Eagle player of the last few years. If they can't find him a starting CB spot, how about making him a punt returner during the preseason and let the opposing teams smack him around a little. I would enjoy that.
