Mr. Banner Goes To Washington

POSTED: Wednesday, March 9, 2011, 12:59 PM

Eagles president Joe Banner is one of several NFL club executives and owners participating in the labor negotiations this week in Washington, D.C.

According to league sources, Banner has been involved, along with several other league executives, in developing a rookie wage-scale proposal. But that issue is on the back burner right now as the two sides duke it out over how to split the league’s $9.3 billion revenue pie.

Banner’s financial expertise could come in handy there as well. The owners have continually claimed that the current revenue split, which gives the owners $1 billion off the top for costs such as stadium construction and upkeep and 50 percent of the rest of the revenue, is an unsustainable business model. The players have asked the owners to prove that by opening their books and showing them team-by-team financial data. The owners have been reluctant to do that.

The two sides agreed last Friday to a 7-day extension in the expiring collective bargaining agreement while they continued to negotiate. If there is no significant progress by Friday afternoon, the union could decertify, which would leave the league open to an antitrust suit.

If it were up to Banner, linebackers would not be considered important enough to be covered by the CBA

Which tells you all you need to know about the honesty and accountability of the owners......they will die before they allow their books to be opened and audited by a foreign bank (a) because they are frauds and thier lies would be exposed and b) because they do not own or control foreign banks like they control all the US banks....Transparency is a non-existent concept to them.....to be transparent they would have to tell the truth.....and not one of them is willling to do that.....The only way to go is for the uion to de-certify forcing the courts to review all anti-trust laws in relationship to the NFL.....then watch the owners stumble over one another to lie and point fingers.....Yes, it will probably mean no season this year....and some players will lose part of their careeers, and fans will be crushed and the gambling industry and the mob will lose millions......but that is the only way to get these selfish greedy owners to understand truth and fairness in business and for control of the 32 old boys club..........Think about it....we don't trust the master spinner JoeB now with Eagle things and now the NFL wants him to guard the vault.....I will hate the loss of this season and their behavior disgusts me......but think about this....no mor PSL, no more price gouging on tickets and merchandise...and no more riping off cities nad stets for their personal luxury stadiums...It is about time the pendulum swung in faor of truth, transparency, and fair business practices.....and we will all have to sacrifice some things or expect them to continue to rip off, steal and take advantage of all of us (players, fans , media, states, cities and TV networks...

How about we create a Sports Fans Union? Anybody who thinks this negotiation is a bunch of cr@p raise their hands..... Okay guys, here's the dealeo..... You come to a successful conclusion by Friday, or we go on strike, and there will be no negotiation. We buy no merchandise, we buy no products endorsed by either the NFL or the players. This list will be available by midnight on Friday. We visit no football related sites or newspaper/magazine sports sites. We put all of our ticket payment plan money in escrow until our demands are met. Every month this goes on, what we agree to pay for tickets in the future goes down by 3% and will only be increased by 3% annually after CBA ratification until it reaches it's current level and will be held there for a period of five years, at which time we will consider the financial reports and determine if increases are warranted. Any petulant or criminal athlete will have their sponsors boycotted and their team blacklisted until such time as the public receives a full apology and a statement of understanding showing they regret their transgression. The acceptance of this statement is at the digression of the SFU(Sports Fans Union). Any owner found to be mistreating their fan base will have their team boycotted until such time as they submit a full apology for their hubris and the offending action is remedied to the satisfaction of the SFU.
We have had enough of this nonsense and it's time that you guys understand who holds the actual purse strings. If this works, we move on to politics!

One of Joe "Wooden Nickel" Banner's proposals is to limit "snow" games to one season. Joe sites fan safety for his reasoning and says "it has nothing to do with money."

Banners rookie wage scale;... Trade all the way down to the 6th round,Then you don't have to pay them as much. Cut them before the season starts, then find and undrafted free agent with major knee injuries and pay even less!

Nuggett; Right on the money (No pun intended) These owners will make all the excuses in world why they need more revenue, but when pushed to show why they need the money they won't. Unbelievable. The millionair althletes can be hard to take, but the owners are clearly in the wrong here!

As part of the new CBA, Banner will disallow sandwiches to be brought into the stadium as a way for the NFL to do its part against terrorism. He will also insist there be no water fountains in NFL stadiums. After all, the owner should be allowed to make money.

It's good to know the league has put its best minds to work on the case.

Banner comes in, settles the contract situation, owners change the name of the Super Bowl to the "Banner Bowl" and the Lombardi Trophy to the Laurie Trophy. Pay tribute to the Eagles as the Gold Standard during halftime. No rock groups. Just a montage of Andy Reid post game press conferances on the big screen.
