Arizona GM: "No interest" in McNabb

POSTED: Thursday, March 25, 2010, 10:47 AM

UPDATED 2:

Arizona general manager Rod Graves told the Cardinals' Web site that they have "no interest" in acquiring Donovan McNabb, echoing a report in Arizona Republic (link below).

Of course, McNabb is often linked to the Cardinals because of his offseason home in Chandler, Ariz., his desire to play for a contender and Kurt Warner's retirement.

The Cardinals are expecting to open training camp with Matt Leinart as the starter, finally hoping to live up to the promise expected from him when he was drafted out of USC. The team signed Derek Anderson after he was released from the Browns as a backup, but he will be waiting in the wings if Leinart stumbles.

UPDATED: The chorus of denials from the St. Louis Rams brass continued today in Jupiter, Fla., where coach Steve Spagnuolo was taking in a Cardinals spring training game.

"There’s nothing to that.” Spagnuolo said, according to the Associated Press. “At this time of the year, there are going to be all kinds of things. But no, there’s nothing there.”

Spags, a former defensive assistant with the Eagles, said he does not put much stock in trade rumors.

Yesterday at the owners meetings, Spagnuolo talked extensively about the amount of research and background work the Rams have done on prospective No. 1 overall pick Sam Bradford, the quarterback from Oklahoma.

Interesingly, he said he has picked the brains of several other head coaches on Bradford, including Reid, Minnesota's Brad Childress and Denver's Josh McDaniel.

"The guys I respect and that know quarterbacks," Spagnuolo said. "They don't have to tell me (anything), but most of the guys are great. They're pretty open about it."

EARLIER:

It's getting near lunchtime in the East; do you know where your Donovan is?

Not traded yet, that we know.

The St. Louis report from yesterday has gathered no steam. It could have been an attempt by the Birds to set the market, or it could have been a conflation of rumors. Reports about Buffalo and Oakland persist, but it's really hard to envision McNabb signing in either place, which would make obtaining him kind of pointless for two teams that aren't winning the Super Bowl next season and would have to be looking toward several years of McNabb. In fact, a source close to McNabb has confirmed DMac would not be excited about those destinations.

One report this morning revived the well-worn Arizona speculation, but Kent Somers, who covers the team very ably for the Arizona Republic, sees little chance of McNabb ending up in his offseason home, though we might want to phone Kent for updates on DMac's whereabouts, since he seems to see the QB more often this time of year than we do.

Buffalo hasn't made the playoffs in 10 years, playing in a tough division, and Oakland, well, everybody knows the deal with Oakland. The thing to watch out for there is, Al Davis might be crazy enough to trade for a 33-year-old QB who doesn't want to be there, figuring he'll sell him on all that tarnished Rai-duh tradition once he gets him in black and silver.

In the meantime, Derek over at Igglesblog has an interesting, comprehensive take on the McNabb situation, with several strong points.

That's all for now. Stay tuned.

You guys are kinda rubbing it in on Jeff McLane a little, huh? Jeff had the St. Louis deal virtually done yesterday afternoon, and said it could be finalized by last night. Oops.

It's plan and simple, Philly reported on this story to early. As ESPN reported, the Rams have yet to see Bradford at his Pro Day. Does it not make perfect sense for the Rams to deny the report, they are just trying to keep all their options open. They probably did offer the Eagles a pick, but they dont have any intention on moving on it until after Sam Bradford's Pro Day. Odds are if the Birds do deal with the Rams it won't be until after the 29th

I will never understand all the hate on McNabb. It's not like he's trying to lose games. Do I think it's time for him to leave...yes. Do I think Kobb is the answer? ABSOLUTELY NOT!!! He is NOT the answer, he is NOT Aaron Rodgers, and he is NOT a franchise QB. Anyone who watched him play against Baltimore and New Orleans knows that. He had one long pass vs. the Saints and otherwise SUCKED. He threw bad picks and lost the game for us as much as the defense. I don't give the KC game ANY credence, because KC is terrible. Just be careful what you wish for....I'd trade Kobb in a heartbeat.

Although I rarely do, I agree with Stephen A. Smith and his article today. Sums things up perfectly. One of the greatest Eagles of all time and a collection of morons are counting down his departure like it's New Year's Even 1999. He will be missed and missed dearly. We're forfeiting any chance of a Lombardi in 2010 and with no football in 2011, that makes me pretty disgusted. If indeed you are being traded, thank you Super 5 for 11 awesome years!!!!

Lonewolf, is that the same bottle of Dom you had on ice when you guaranteed Jay Cutler's arrival here? Might want to invest in an ice machine if it's the same bottle you're saving for the "Kolb will win a SB for the Eagles within two years, or sooner" guarantee from a year ago.

My thanks to Mc Nabb for his efforts over the years, time to move on to KK and a very young team.

DCPhila, the area's premier NFl expert. Able to judge a QB's future on two games. No one knows for sure if he is the answer, but we've already seen the answer on McNabb. Multiple times. Eleven times. The answer is that the Eagles haven't won an NFL championship for 50 YEARS, and McNabb and Reid have their personal stamps on > 20% of that time. By the way, statistician, Kolb threw for nearly 400 yards against New Orleans and by the way was asked to throw 51 times. If you do the math and subtract (careful it may give your remaining two neurons a misfire) he threw for 320 yards besides that bomb. If he sucked he would have thrown behind and over receivers, and into the ground. Hmmmmm....

If these idiots represent the Eagles fan base I may have to sit on the sidelines for the next few years while natural selection weeds them out. Kolb vs Ravens in 2008 told me all I need to know about Kevin Kolb esp with our O-line issues. He will be worse than Ben Rapelisberger last year.
