Source: No Special Conduct Clauses

POSTED: Monday, August 29, 2011, 10:51 PM

Answering the question many people had about the new Michael Vick contract, a source close to the situation said late last night that there are no special clauses relating to off-the-field conduct -- just the usual contract boilerplate.

This reflects the extent to which the franchise is comfortable tying its future to Vick, who came to the Eagles two years ago fresh out of federal prison, where he served 18 months for his role in a dogfighting operation.

With Michael Vick's $100 million contract, the Eagles have now spent close to $230 million in the last four weeks on contracts, according to an NFL source.

Here is a breakdown of the numbers:

QB Michael Vick: $100 million

CB Nnamdi Asomugha: $60 million

DE Jason Babin: $28 million

DT Cullen Jenkins: $26 million

QB Vince Young: $4 million

WR Steve Smith: $3 million

CB Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie: $3 million (acquired in trade)

RB Ronnie Brown: $1.5 million

Additionally, about a total of $4 million was spent on OG Evan Mathis, S Jarrad Page, DT Derek Landri, DL Anthony Hargrove and others. Mathis and Page are currently starters.

Here are Twitter reactions of some current and former Eagles:

David Akers: Congrats to @MikeVick for the well deserved contract. Love seein people take advantage of 2nd chance.

Leonard Weaver: Wow, I just saw that my dude Mike Vick got a new contract for 100 million and he deserves every bit of it. Congrats, bro!!!!

Riley Cooper: @MikeVick, much deserved brotha. That’s awesome.

LeSean McCoy: My big homie @mikevick deserves whey bit of that 100 MILLION. LOL … I love my squad … Reason I’m happy about that 100 million deal cuz every time we go out @MikeVick got the TAB lol

Flyers’ James Van Riemsdyk: Congrats to @MikeVick for his new deal with the eagles, probably one of the most athletic guys in all of sports.

Vick has conned the Eagles and the fans...now that he has $100 million contract he can become the real sick Vick again.

Never thought I'd say this, but I actually miss Ashley Fox and her negativity.

Vick is a sick disgusting physcho...Vick held helpless dogs heads underwater while they kicked frantically until they died...could you do that?...Vick slammed helpless dogs repeatedly onto cement floors, until their back was broken..could you do that?...Vick hung live dogs from a tree, until they died..are you sick enough to do that also?

If you can fluff all that off, just because Vick can run fast...maybe you are a sick physcho also.

A $100 million contract for a QB with two rookies and a new RT on the OL seems rather risky. The two rookies must be showing a lot more in practices than in the preseason games because so far they both look bad.

ekw555: Vick did not kill for money..Vick killed all those helpless dogs with his own hands just for FUN...Vick said it gave him a "high".

Sick Vick was voted in poll as the most "hated player in America"...now the Eagles will be the most hated team in America.

Does not matter what he did in his personal life--that is not an earned contract--he has done nothing to earn that price. Either there is a lot of clauses in it or else its payoff money.
