If there was any doubt as to how highly Michael Vick's athletic ability is regarded, take a look at this week's Players Poll in Sports Illustrated.

The question, asked of 269 major league baseball players, is which athlete in another sport would make the best baseball player.

The top answer, with 16 percent of the vote, was Vick.

Vick had not played organized baseball since the eighth grade, but was still selected in the 30th round of the 2000 baseball draft by Colorado. The Rockies had not talked to Vick before the draft so his selection came as a bit of a surprise.

"When you can run like him, our feeling was he could cover some ground for us in the outfield," Rockies director of scouting Bill Schmidt said at the time. "I didn't think it was a major investment at that point (30th pick). If it didn't work out, we could take a chance. Michael Jordan tried (baseball). Maybe he might want to make a run at it."

LeBron James was the second choice with 13 percent, followed by Sidney Crosby and Aaron Rodgers at 7 percent. Drew Brees received 4 percent of the vote.

Of the 31 athletes who received more than one vote, all but seven are from football (18) or basketball (6).

As long as we are on the subject of Vick and his ability. We told you Sunday that Vick was ranked 20th in the voting by players for the NFL Network Top 100.

ESPN.com continued its series of Power Rankings earlier this week with its panel selecting the top players. Vick finished in a tie for 10th with Houston wide receiver Andre Johnson.

Of the eight voters, Vick was seventh on three ballots, ninth on another and did not make four others.
