Like Old Times: DMac, Westy, Trot Practice
Les Bowen, Daily News Staff Writer
Donovan McNabb, Brian Westbrook and prodigal .linebacker Jeremiah Trotter practiced today as the Eagles returned from the bye week and began preparations for their game against Tampa Bay on Sunday.
McNabb suffered a fractured rib on Sept. 13 in the season-opening victory over Carolina. He has not played since.
Westbrook has an injured ankle, suffered in Game 2. He was a mildly surprising scratch from the third game, Sunday a week ago, when his recovery stalled.
Trotter, 32, looked trim after his first NFL practice in 21 months, which he said went well.
"It was fun being out there, especially with some of the guys I already knew -- (Mike) Patterson and (Brodrick) Bunkley and guys like that," Trotter said. "I just tried to hit the ground running. It's still going to take some time for me to pick up everything."
Tracy White said his main enticement for giving No. 54 back to Trotter was a deal with Trotter's South Jersey car washing enterprise. It's unclear if practice squad linebacker Jay Leman got anything for moving out of the last locker stall on the left, Trotter's historic home.
Every Eagles linebacker was present during the time reporters were allowed in the locker room except for incumbent MIKE starter Omar Gaither, the guy who will now be sharing snaps with Trotter. Trotter said he did get some first-team snaps Monday.
Neither McNabb nor Westbrook spoke with reporters; Westbrook did not appear in the locker room, and McNabb turned down requests for comment. Michael Vick said he felt refreshed after the bye, and is now only 4 pounds above the 208 he played at in Atlanta, before he went to prison for his role in a dogfighting operation. Asked to comment on last week's controversy with Nike -- in which a Vick representative said the quarterback had signed an endorsement deal, and Nike denied it -- Vick said he would only answer questions about football.
Asked if Westbrook looked like Westbrook in Monday's practice -- meaning, was he moving well, or limping, rookie Shady McCoy shed little light: "He always looks like Westbrook," McCoy said. "He's the man."
Of the Eagles who were limping going into the bye, only left guard Todd Herremans did not practice Monday, a team spokesman said. Herremans has discarded the little cart he was wheeling his repaired left foot around on, but he now wears a bulky protective boot. Herremans said he is still hoping to return Oct. 26, at Washington, the Birds' first NFC East game.
Seed, dude. LOL I don't know what you are smoking, but I will defend your right to keep smoking it. Kill those brain cells dude. LOL obergruber
seed, this is kolb's third year with eagles. those other years he was practicing with the univ. of houston. i don't believe the eagles invested in him to trade him especially with mchurt 'leading' the team. wtf are you talking about anyway? JACK V
You guys are unbelievable, Take McNabb out of this lineup and the eagles would be also rans. Give the man his due, Kolb did admirably in his absence but when the real games begin who would you rather have. You throw for almost 400 yards and put up only 22 points and lose. Like all other Philly greats they will not get any love until they have gone somewhere else. Dawkins is playing great for a good Denver team but they will not make the playoffs. Tampa Bay won their first four games last year and did not make the playoffs. Let this team play their games and you will see what the end result is. gwilli1234- will all of you a-holes please GO AWAY

I just dont think alot of guys on here played or know football!!! Please tell me what playoff game was all McNabb's fault. The 1st NFC championship against the Rams wasn't his fault he had a good game working with below avg receivers the defense lost that 1 or Marshall Faulk just won it. The second against Tampa Bay our defense choked and we once again had no good game breaking receivers, he threw a bad pick at the end but the game was already over. Against Carolina BWest getting hurt against Wash. hurt us and if u watched the game we would run all the way dwn the field then Reid would pass enuff said throwing to Trash and Stinkston even Runyuan said we should have kept running cause they couldn't stop Deuce. In the Superbowl we had NO running game we were 1 dimensional u cant win that time of yr like that. Chad Lewis would have helped becus LJ did nothing in the middle of the field to open it up for T.O or BWest . And once again we didnt stop the Patriots offense like the GMen did to win it guys. Its a team sport and McNabb never had a complete offense team around him until maybe now but the defense has to be lights out that time of yr cause LAST YR once again they folded in the Arizona game are u kidding me? U guys are the worst kind of fans where were we before McNabb came? We were a joke guys with no hope of going anywhere....... diehardeagle
I like Trotter. It's a shame to hear he's prodigal. FreddyFo
diehardeagle, good recap but true Eagle fans know the scoop so you're preaching to the chior. Idiots who want to blame DM for all the losses are lost themselves and don't/won't see things objectively anyway. Useless to try. tpizza
