McNabb: Birds will be Super next year

POSTED: Thursday, February 4, 2010, 8:16 PM

Donovan McNabb reiterated that he expects to remain an Eagle this coming season during his annual "SportsCenter" appearance at the Super Bowl.

He also echoed his "finish the job" comments of a few weeks ago, saying the Birds will be playing in the big game next year.

"The Colts, the Saints, it's going to be a great game on Sunday. I'll be watching it back home in Philadelphia and I will be there next year," McNabb said.

The speculation about where Michael Vick might land next season continues.

Yesterday, Jason La Canfora, of the NFL Network, said St. Louis was "definitely" the favorite to land Vick.

ESPN.com's John Clayton said he kept hearing Buffalo was the spot as the Bills switch to more of a hybrid college-pro style offense with new coach Chan Gailey. Clayton, however, did not expect Vick to move via trade rather the Eagles declining to pick up his option.

Meanwhile, McNabb says Vick deserves the chance to start somewhere.

"Michael Vick's done a great job," McNabb said. "He's a great guy, he's worked extremely hard to prepare himself. I think this a perfect opportunity for a ballclub to give him an opportunity to start for them., be their quarterback, and he's going to make a lot of plays for them."

McNabb said last week at the Pro Bowl that he expected Vick to stay, but it seems clear now that Vick is looking to go elsewhere, saying this week that it would be difficult to remain with the Eagles in a similar role.

More in tomorrow's Daily News, along with our Super Bowl preview.

Lombardi said that his sources with the Eagles told him that the Eagles management had no intention of trading Vick. They think Vick will be much more effective next season and they want to give him the ball 7-15 times a game. If that's true they likely plan on going with Kolb as the starter because no way McNabb would be happy with Vick getting the ball that much.

Lombardi said that other teams interested in Kolb. But he didn't say that his sources told him that the Eagles want to trade Kolb.

McNabb's comments are laughable. The only way that the Eagles will go to the Super Bowl next year is if Kolb is the starter. Hopefully Donovan will be playing the air guitar somewhere else next season.

This guy really needs to go far, far away. He is becoming an embarassment with his high school silly girl acts. Just wipe the childish and fake grin from your face, man up, and play football. The only way he gets back to a Super Bowl is the same as me, by buying a ticket.

I think McNabb needs to focus on winning the NFC East. 0-3 with two blowouts against Dallas means its a tall order for them to get out of the division.

I've only posted on the comments section once during all my years visiting this philly site to get my sports fix. McNabb's comment made me laugh. Im puerto rican so I have no bias towards none of our qb's. I just want to win. McNabbb is getting on my nerves though. He will be at the super bowl alright, doing the same job he has done the last few years, as an analyst. Im ready for Kolb. Give him a shot. DMac has had plenty of chances. Time for the next guy in line.

I will tell you this..IF McNabb is traded, not likely, to a team like the Cardinals or Vikings, they would become instant contenders for the SB!! As with any team, the Eagles have to stay healthy and get a new secondary/LB corp that can cover and tackle

Chat...."WE"????? Speak for yourself, chump. There are ALOT more pressing problems on this team than McNabb. O-line, linebackers, safety, compliment to Cole, etc., etc., .......the list goes on.......still haven't mentioned qb. Get a clue.

komplex2005 apparently you didn't watch the Pro Bowl game where the only time the NFC Team moved the ball was when McNabb wasn't playing except the one time DeSean Jackson saved him with a screen pass he took fifty-eight yards that McNabb, undeservedly, gets credit for. Meanwhile McNabb continued to throw the familiar Dirt Ball Worm Killers and Sky Hooks we have all come to know and love from him interspersed with an INT or two. Yeah those other teams will become instant contenders alright, contenders for the number one draft choice the following year. He'll be saying "Wait 'til next year" with his new team too.
