McNabb, Mikell going to Pro Bowl

POSTED: Monday, January 25, 2010, 10:13 AM

Quarterback Donovan McNabb and safety Quintin Mikell were officially added to the NFC Pro Bowl roster this morning.

It's McNabb's sixth Pro Bowl selection and the first for Mikell.

McNabb replaces Drew Brees and Mikell replaces Roman Harper. The two Saints cannot play in the Pro Bowl because they are playing in the Super Bowl the following week. Harper had been an injury replacement for Arizona's Adrian Wilson.

The Eagles now have nine players going to Miami for Sunday's game. The nine players are the most since 10 players were selected for the game after the 2004 season, the year the Eagles went to the Super Bowl.

The other Birds scheduled to play in the game are wide receiver DeSean Jackson, offensive tackle Jason Peters, long snapper Jon Dorenbos, fullback Leonard Weaver, defensive end Trent Cole, cornerback Asante Samuel and kicker David Akers.

ONLY ONE IN LONDON

The NFL said it will only have one game in London next season -- the previously announced game between the 49ers and Broncos at Wembley Stadium on Oct. 31. The NFL cited the economy and also the collective bargaining situation between the league and its players for not adding a second game. The Eagles had been rumored to be the 49ers' opponent in London.

Q.Mikell really?? I can see Mcnabb going because he had a good year but Q.Mikell. He had a terrible terrible awful year missed tackles dropped interceptions, cant cover a tightend. Are people serious?? Did they even watch the eagles this year?? WOW some people dont know the game of football anymore.

This team is 6-10 ,7-9 at best without Mcnabb, Yes I would love to have Manning, Brees, Rivers, Brady (he had a bad game too!) but we ain't getting any of them. You Mcnabb haters want Kolb .Go ahead you will see a team struggle like during the days of Bobby Hoying. This team had serious flaws ,Donnie Mac was the least of them. And the cowboys simply had our number/game plan down to a pat, not to mention revenge from last year. They got pasted by Vikings-Viking D much better

It's scraping the bottom when the QB with the 12th place passer rating goes to the ProBowl. Must be the QB of Morrisville High wasn't available.

I've been saying this for a while now; do away with the Pro Bowl game. Just name an All-Pro roster and be done with it. Nobody watches to begin with, and obviously now with it being before the Super Bowl, you're always gonna have 8-12 alternates shuffled in who would not have been there in the first place, and all it does for them is kick in a bonus for making the Pro Bowl.

Pro Bowl has been officially rendered beyond meaningless. They should play the thing at the Hall of Fame induction ceremony in August, before the start of the following season. That way, people get to be in the Super Bowl and the Pro Bowl. Q Mikell as a Pro Bowler? Puh-lease.

Sort of diminishes the lustre of a pro bowl invitation for the truly deserving, when you have the likes of McNabb, Peters, Samuel, and a 1-dimensional-long-snapper in attendance!

After having time to think about it....I think i may stop watching football altogether after this. Quintin Mikell making the pro-bowl is a travesty to the human race. I guess that 2012 movie is really going to happen...This is the first sign of the apocalypse.

Here's a thought!! Move Sheldon to safety and move Macho back to corner. Sheldon would be a lock to make a pro-bowl roster then. The way he hits and his ball skills will make sure of that. Brown would be perfect back there...the last pupil of Dawk, I'm sure he would make him proud back there...

For those guys who thought the pro bowl was a big honor, it now becomes more of a joke, when the big guys are backing out wholesale. It is a little embarrassing to be honest about it. Even McPuke made it.

McNabb had himself a solid year.... you could argue Romo should go before him tho. That said... it's time for Don to go. He's a good QB, but not good enough to take a team with as many holes as the Eagles on his back and contend for a championship. IE... Mark Sanchez only played in an AFC championship game because he has the league's best OLine, Running Game, and Secondary... we have none of those things. Anyway, i hope this Pro Bowl bolsters his trade value this offseason. We need to see what Kolb has and go full out on the youth movement. BTW, we are sending both Asante and Mikell to the Pro Bowl?? something tells me Andre Johnson will breaking all of their "tackles".

What a joke. McNabb couldn't hit the side of a barn from 20 feet away. He is an average QB at best. 11 years of his inaccuracy and total lack of leadership is enough already. All these national clowns how worship him are clueless. They haven't been watching him every week for the last decade.

No, Mikell did not stink in 2008. 2009 , not so good. Sometimes these rewards go after the fact. McNabb has to be replaced, in order to Advance. Staying the course is not beneficial to anyone. Kolb is ready. He is more accurate, quicker release and just more suited to run this WC offense. I want to see McNAbb in a different style offense and see him succeed , as well.Get something for him now or you will lose that option after next yr. I'm still sick over that damn 12 man in huddle blunder of the year.

MG44: I appreciate the thoughtful and collegial tone of your dissent from what I said. But I think that when Manning leads the Colts to a second Super Bowl win, as I believe he will, it'll be obvious that Manning is indeed kilometers, if not miles, ahead of McNabb. I'm with miket47, who has found the playoffs revelatory of what the best QBs can do.

Dave, I won't discredit what Manning did yesterday, and it looks as if he's finally becoming a pretty good post-season qb. But, to act like he's miles ahead of McNabb is, to me, ludicrous.

If you watched any playoff football over the past 2 weeks, it was intuitively obvious that our Guy, DM, does not measure up. I witnessed a lot of catch and run in full stride, no gopher passes, nobody playing twister in order to catch the ball, and no vomiting or anxiety attacks. Interesting comment from my wife - "How can you even watch the Eagles after seeing these teams play?"

Well McNabb is apparently already on his way to the HOF so he should be a given that he'll be in the Pro Bowl every year. In fact, next season why bother even playing the season because according to Beagles fans every season the team is better than everyone on paper. Goin' all the way!

Maybe he will have higher trade value. I am tired of hearing how great he is for the team and if he is gone we will regret it. Like a rookie qb cant do better? please see the Jets, the Falcons, and Ravens. I think Kolb deserves a chance. He sufferred enough sitting behind a clown.

Still no love for Sheldon Brown! He got picked on a little at the end of the season, but that was because he was gutting it out to get on the field and play thru an injury. With the season he had he deserves to be there, certainly before Mikell.

Yesterday we all got to see how a really good NFL quarterback, the estimable Peyton Manning, plays in a big game. And by comparison, he sure made McNabb look small and inept. Here are a few areas where Manning shines and "Pro Bowler" McNabb does not: 1) Manning is ultra-prepared, and therefore knows what to do against any given defense 2) Manning is ultra-serious and concentrated, which feeds his teammates' sense of urgency 3) Manning is ultra-accurate, which makes his receivers better 4) Manning is ultra-confident, largely because he knows he has the bases covered before the game 5) Manning is ultra-flexible, in that he's able to learn as he goes how the game is developing and take advantage of opportunities. Forgive me if I'm less than enthusiastic about honors coming McNabb's way.

Josh, I agree with you. Hey, it's not a surprise: McNabb was the main reason we were even in playoff consideration this year, and it happened that the top 3 qbs (Brees-Favre-Rodgers) in the conference had MVP type years, which DM also had, if you care to look at the season objectively. I don't care about the game, itself, and don't know if Mikell was second or third alternate. I'd tend to agree w/ some who say that Peters and Samuel were very curious choices.

Do away with the pro bowl entirely. If Mikell is considered as one of the best in the league, there are problems. Now his agent will flaunt this at contract time and the eagles brass will talk about this now showing that they have the most talented roster.

I guess if you're player, being selected to the Pro Bowl is a real honor. However. I wonder how juiced they are to actually play the game. The only memorable thing that could happen is to get injured.

Never before have so many undeserving Eagles been given Pro Bowl spots - Mikell, McNabb, Samuel, Peters - 4 guys who simply don't belong. Samuel is the most overrated player to wear Eagles green. Yeah, lots of picks but even more plays he gives up.

This is surprising to me...Mikell really didn't have a good year. Sheldon played much better but because his position is so deep and there aren't that many good safeties in the league Brown gets snubbed again. I can't think of any other Safety that played well this year in the NFC other than Sharper...can you?! Mikell by default then....

What a joke!! Well, at least with Favre falling flat on his face yesterday, one would hope that he would go away and opens up the scenario of donnie going to MN. While mcnabb was busy blaming his "young guys" for the short-comnings, Peyton seemed to be able to make make his "young guys" look pretty good.

Mikell is getting rewarded for his strong 2008 season. He blew in 2009!! Donovan, I always defend him when people say he stinks. Because if you look around, he's top 7 or 8 in the league. But its time to go to Kolb next year. Donovan has taken the birds as far as he can. Dump McNabb, start Kolb, and build this Defense!! Money needs to be spent on that side of the ball!

Donovan McNabb had a good season, and he is at the top of his game. It is a shame that he is still the scapegoat for the team's failure to win a championship. Without him this team would have had at best, a 7-9 season. We don't have a good time, it is seriously flawed. There is no ability to effectvely and consistently run the ball, protect the passer; and on defense, we don't have the ability to put pressure on the passer. We did not beat a time with a winning record this season. We had unrealistic expectations going into the playoffs. The 11 win season was based on the weak schedule. Philly fans are the worst in the country, all you do is spew hatred towards Mcnabb. Phillly sports writers have no class. You are all calling for Mcnabb to be run out of town.
