McNabb, Mikell going to Pro Bowl
Daily News Staff
Quarterback Donovan McNabb and safety Quintin Mikell were officially added to the NFC Pro Bowl roster this morning.
It's McNabb's sixth Pro Bowl selection and the first for Mikell.
McNabb replaces Drew Brees and Mikell replaces Roman Harper. The two Saints cannot play in the Pro Bowl because they are playing in the Super Bowl the following week. Harper had been an injury replacement for Arizona's Adrian Wilson.
The Eagles now have nine players going to Miami for Sunday's game. The nine players are the most since 10 players were selected for the game after the 2004 season, the year the Eagles went to the Super Bowl.
The other Birds scheduled to play in the game are wide receiver DeSean Jackson, offensive tackle Jason Peters, long snapper Jon Dorenbos, fullback Leonard Weaver, defensive end Trent Cole, cornerback Asante Samuel and kicker David Akers.
ONLY ONE IN LONDON
The NFL said it will only have one game in London next season -- the previously announced game between the 49ers and Broncos at Wembley Stadium on Oct. 31. The NFL cited the economy and also the collective bargaining situation between the league and its players for not adding a second game. The Eagles had been rumored to be the 49ers' opponent in London.
What a joke!! Well, at least with Favre falling flat on his face yesterday, one would hope that he would go away and opens up the scenario of donnie going to MN. While mcnabb was busy blaming his "young guys" for the short-comnings, Peyton seemed to be able to make make his "young guys" look pretty good. mrbean

who"s next bruce gradkowski...what a joke the pro bowl has become tomarch
This is surprising to me...Mikell really didn't have a good year. Sheldon played much better but because his position is so deep and there aren't that many good safeties in the league Brown gets snubbed again. I can't think of any other Safety that played well this year in the NFC other than Sharper...can you?! Mikell by default then.... sima_down_nah

Never before have so many undeserving Eagles been given Pro Bowl spots - Mikell, McNabb, Samuel, Peters - 4 guys who simply don't belong. Samuel is the most overrated player to wear Eagles green. Yeah, lots of picks but even more plays he gives up. sbdons1982- I guess if you're player, being selected to the Pro Bowl is a real honor. However. I wonder how juiced they are to actually play the game. The only memorable thing that could happen is to get injured. plymtg
Great! Now we are going to be stuck with Mikell forever cause the fat guy thinks he is a pro-bowl caliber player. barefoot- Do away with the pro bowl entirely. If Mikell is considered as one of the best in the league, there are problems. Now his agent will flaunt this at contract time and the eagles brass will talk about this now showing that they have the most talented roster. rvb2321
We have the best Alternative Roster in the game! Hands down!! sima_down_nah
Josh, I agree with you. Hey, it's not a surprise: McNabb was the main reason we were even in playoff consideration this year, and it happened that the top 3 qbs (Brees-Favre-Rodgers) in the conference had MVP type years, which DM also had, if you care to look at the season objectively. I don't care about the game, itself, and don't know if Mikell was second or third alternate. I'd tend to agree w/ some who say that Peters and Samuel were very curious choices. MG44
Why is the Pro Bowl -BEFORE- the Super Bowl this year ?? It's probably just a NFL Marketing/ Promo deal to kick off the Super Bowl events. Meaningless. Really. MJPD345- Yesterday we all got to see how a really good NFL quarterback, the estimable Peyton Manning, plays in a big game. And by comparison, he sure made McNabb look small and inept. Here are a few areas where Manning shines and "Pro Bowler" McNabb does not: 1) Manning is ultra-prepared, and therefore knows what to do against any given defense 2) Manning is ultra-serious and concentrated, which feeds his teammates' sense of urgency 3) Manning is ultra-accurate, which makes his receivers better 4) Manning is ultra-confident, largely because he knows he has the bases covered before the game 5) Manning is ultra-flexible, in that he's able to learn as he goes how the game is developing and take advantage of opportunities. Forgive me if I'm less than enthusiastic about honors coming McNabb's way.
Still no love for Sheldon Brown! He got picked on a little at the end of the season, but that was because he was gutting it out to get on the field and play thru an injury. With the season he had he deserves to be there, certainly before Mikell. JoePAVA
