McNabb in town working out with former teammates

POSTED: Wednesday, June 22, 2011, 3:35 PM

Look who is back in town, working out with his former teammates and maybe even tossing one or two at their feet.

It’s Donovan McNabb.

If you’re too young to remember, McNabb was an Eagles quarterback of some note. He led the team to its second Super Bowl after the 2004 season. He was steeped in various dramas along the way, much of it his own doing. He also is, like him or not, the greatest quarterback in Eagles’ history.

McNabb was traded to Washington on Easter Sunday 2010. He did not lead the Redskins to the playoffs, and was actually benched down the stretch of a lost season.

McNabb, 34, got together yesterday in South Jersey with Jason Avant and Jeremy Maclin, among others, according to his publicist Rich Burg. “He has been working out in Arizona with the Cardinals’ Larry Fitzgerald and other wide receivers from around the league,” Burg said. “Now that he is on the East Coast, he wanted to continue to throw to wide receivers.”

There is nothing sinister about McNabb being back in Philly, quite the opposite. He is here to help dedicate the McNabb Family NeoNatal Intensive Care Unit at Virtua Hospital in Voorhees, N.J. The ceremonies are today and Donovan will attend along with his wife, Raquel.

“All four of his children were born at Virtua,” Burg said. “When his twins were born in 2008, they spent time 2 weeks in the neonatal unit.”

McNabb’s participation goes way beyond just showing up. He made a six-figure donation to the unit and helped raise $2.5 million.

As somebody who was never a big McNabb Fan I say him bring him back if we can.
HE is better then Kolb, or any other free agent backup.
He knows our system and knows it well.
Plus McNabb has a chance to go out in a good way, not being some scrub backup, but being a backup where he started and having fans who still appreciate him.

Mcnabb would make a great backup for Vick. Emphasis on backup not starter.

that practice field is the closest McNabb will ever get to playing for the eagles ever again. Hes OLD and has been sacked more time then almost every QB still playing in the league (thanks to Reids delusional all-pass predictably horrible play calling) It did McNabb no favors, and after the injuries, after he couldnt run around anymore, he lost his effectiveness since hes not accurate and never has been. That was it. I said he had two years left as a starter in the league, at most, and he hasnt even gotten 1 more in. he got benched before he could. Hes DONE, also he DOESNT WANT TO BACKUP...he wants to start...as he thinks he is still a great QB...his incrediblly low 14 wonderlic score is a testament to that...also probably the LOWEST IN THE ENTIRE LEAGUE for QB's, and not just for QB's but amongst ALMOST ALL PLAYERS. McNabb was even lucky he was drafted by Reid into jim Johnsons #2 defense for all those years...otherwise his career would have resembled Akili Smiths. or Tim Couch. Reid would have gone 10-6 and lost in the playoffs every year with any of those guys. McNabb was lucky to be drafted into such a great spot...and he STILL COULDNT WIN ONE because his accuracy is terrible, especially in the clutch, same as his decision making. he just doesnt have it.

If they trade Kolb you have Kafka and what else behind Vick? Why not bring back 5? Like Obama's campaign slogan: "Could Be Worse"

Calm down haters, he also worked out with the Cardinal receivers. He was doing conditioning workouts mostly. He'd never come back here but would be the perfect backup to Vick if he did. Knows the system and has been very (very) successful with it when/should Vick get hurt.

The last three paragraphs of this article should have been the first three paragraphs of this article. What type of writers and editors are left on the staff these days? A man raises millions to help infants and you dump on him.

McNabb's actions off the field tell us all the type of person he is. I know someone who grew up with and is still a close friend of Donovan McNabb. He told me that Mac has always been a real good person. I got that from his close friend who is a very reliable source and as you all can see his actions show his true character.

I bet he still lives in Moorestown and I bet the Eagles fire Vick and bring back Dunavan as soon as th elock out is lifted. Vick is a fraud and he cant play.

He would have won a Super Bowl before that if he didn't have receivers named Mitchell and Pinkston!
