McNabb in town working out with former teammates

POSTED: Wednesday, June 22, 2011, 3:35 PM

Look who is back in town, working out with his former teammates and maybe even tossing one or two at their feet.

It’s Donovan McNabb.

If you’re too young to remember, McNabb was an Eagles quarterback of some note. He led the team to its second Super Bowl after the 2004 season. He was steeped in various dramas along the way, much of it his own doing. He also is, like him or not, the greatest quarterback in Eagles’ history.

McNabb was traded to Washington on Easter Sunday 2010. He did not lead the Redskins to the playoffs, and was actually benched down the stretch of a lost season.

McNabb, 34, got together yesterday in South Jersey with Jason Avant and Jeremy Maclin, among others, according to his publicist Rich Burg. “He has been working out in Arizona with the Cardinals’ Larry Fitzgerald and other wide receivers from around the league,” Burg said. “Now that he is on the East Coast, he wanted to continue to throw to wide receivers.”

There is nothing sinister about McNabb being back in Philly, quite the opposite. He is here to help dedicate the McNabb Family NeoNatal Intensive Care Unit at Virtua Hospital in Voorhees, N.J. The ceremonies are today and Donovan will attend along with his wife, Raquel.

“All four of his children were born at Virtua,” Burg said. “When his twins were born in 2008, they spent time 2 weeks in the neonatal unit.”

McNabb’s participation goes way beyond just showing up. He made a six-figure donation to the unit and helped raise $2.5 million.

And Michael Vick has HOW MANY Superbowl rings with the Eagles?
Keep making fun of former players chumps.

Not a huge Donovan fan, but it's pretty cool that he came back to the area for a workout, a meeting for a good cause, and to let NFL fans know he's still lookin...He won't resurface here.

At the right price, McNabb would make a nice backup to Vick.

McNabb sets a standard that most athletes can't ever attain; they don't care to. Some would rather kill animals than save lives! Go #5!

What about Pro Football Hall of Famer and 1960 NFL Champion QB Norm Van Brocklin? Stats don't mean a thing if you don't have the bling.

The world could use a few more people like DMC. His heart is in the right place. For those of you who do not agree that he is the best that the Eagles have ever had, name me one who was better.

This so called writer is as bad as some of the so called fans on this site. First he makes his prerequisite McNabb low ball jokes and drama references, brings up last year's Shanahan shenanigans and then says oh, BTW, McNabb donated six figures to a worthy cause. He embarrasses himself as do the haters. Very weak indeed.

My Grandson spent 6 weeks in that same NICU. I am thrilled to see Donovan step up and help those that helped his babies.

Heard a sound bite on ESPN the fanatic. Typical McNabb talk in saying those that doubted him are wrong, he's in great shape, ready to go, blah, blah, blah. Soon as I heard that voice and the comments, I said Oh no, not again! Won't he ever go away.

He would have lead the team to its third Super Bowl after the 2008 season if the defense hadn't caved!!!

He would have won the Super Bowl before that if he hadn't thrown three interceptions and kept the defense on their heels.
