McNabb in town working out with former teammates

POSTED: Wednesday, June 22, 2011, 3:35 PM

Look who is back in town, working out with his former teammates and maybe even tossing one or two at their feet.

It’s Donovan McNabb.

If you’re too young to remember, McNabb was an Eagles quarterback of some note. He led the team to its second Super Bowl after the 2004 season. He was steeped in various dramas along the way, much of it his own doing. He also is, like him or not, the greatest quarterback in Eagles’ history.

McNabb was traded to Washington on Easter Sunday 2010. He did not lead the Redskins to the playoffs, and was actually benched down the stretch of a lost season.

McNabb, 34, got together yesterday in South Jersey with Jason Avant and Jeremy Maclin, among others, according to his publicist Rich Burg. “He has been working out in Arizona with the Cardinals’ Larry Fitzgerald and other wide receivers from around the league,” Burg said. “Now that he is on the East Coast, he wanted to continue to throw to wide receivers.”

There is nothing sinister about McNabb being back in Philly, quite the opposite. He is here to help dedicate the McNabb Family NeoNatal Intensive Care Unit at Virtua Hospital in Voorhees, N.J. The ceremonies are today and Donovan will attend along with his wife, Raquel.

“All four of his children were born at Virtua,” Burg said. “When his twins were born in 2008, they spent time 2 weeks in the neonatal unit.”

McNabb’s participation goes way beyond just showing up. He made a six-figure donation to the unit and helped raise $2.5 million.

If the Eagles are committed to going with a 10-6 early playoff exit ceiling QB in the next few years- as it seems they are- they should bring McNabb back to fill in during Vick's injuries. The team won't miss a beat. When Vick is healthy McNabb can keep his teammates fired up with air guitar on the sidelines. Kudos on his generous donation and support of a great cause.

LOL at the throwing at their feet dig. Feel bad for what happened in DC last year. Shanahan is a moron.

Man comes to town, makes a 6 figure donation to a neonatal unit that will save the lives of newborn children, and idiots like jtjo6 still can't help but make an ignorant comment. I guess our City's National rep is well deserved after all.

okay, now the haters can start.....his former teamates have no problem with him, and he has been a force in the community and a great supproter of Virtua.....but I am sure the media will stir up hate and the losers will cry and fill the airways and blogs with garbage...

this comment board is funded as a deinstitutionalization program. If folks can't dish digs at athletes they may decompose.

Les, when you say "the greatest QB in Eagles history", you should proceed or follow that with "in my opinion"?

I agree. I was thinking Norm Van Brocklin. Much more of a leader, a field general, and a better quarterback. IMSO

To mimic real game scenarios, Donovan should throw to our DBs.
