INDIANAPOLIS – Eagles running back LeSean McCoy has been named FedEx Ground NFL player of the year. Drew Brees was named FedEx Air player of the year.

FedEx will donate $25,000 in each player's name to the Junior Achievement Programs in the Delaware Valley and New Orleans.

McCoy ran for a league-high 17 touchdowns in 2011. He gained 1,309 yards, fourth in the NFL.  He averaged 4.8 yards per carry and led the NFL with 84 runs for a first down. His 17 rushing touchdowns (and 20 overall) broke Eagles’ records that had stood since 1945.

McCoy and Brees were selected from a panel of three finalists in each of their respective Air and Ground categories. The other Air finalists were Patriots QB Tom Brady and Packers QB Aaron Rodgers. The other Ground finalists were the Jaguars' Maurice Jones-Drew and the Ravens' Ray Rice.

Who would of thought a RB under Reid would get this award?

Congrats to Shady. Nice to see a Birds RB win any award. Well deserved.

That said - FedEx's contribution is a $25K charitable donation? They made $1.5 billion in their last fiscal year. How generous of them. Wonder how much the free advertising they get from the publicizing of these awards is worth. And it would be very interesting to know exactly how many millions the NFL owners pocket from FedEx sponsorships. Sigh.

What does 25K for college get you these days, a couple classes? Nicely done Shady, you were the only reason to tune in every Sunday. Hopefully the rest of the team joins you next year.

I guess they should have just given him a laurel and hardy handshake...sheez, is that the only 50G they will donate this year?

Dad always said, give every one a gold bar and someone will complain he has to carry it home.

you guys are brutal - how about Fed Ex donating 50k - they basically created an awards and as a result these organizations are getting money they otherwise wouldn't have received. More is always better, but I'm sure they're happy to get the money. Some great accomplishments by McCoy this year - too bad they were wasted on an 8-8 season.

Congrats to LeSean McCoy the consummate team player! Very good post Mike & Danny. FYI - Charitable donation = Charitable deduction :P. Kudos to Brian Westbrooke for sticking up for his former coaches during a tough time this season as well ;). The only reason the Eagles didn't go further was turnovers (not usually McCoys fault either) - plain & simple. If they take care of the ball & have a decent draft they should be fine next year. Let me say WIP is the station set on my alarm clock, ummm... but I'm very quick to hit the snooze button :D! Fly eagle fly...

I still say the eagles should've traded up for moreno or brown or wells that year!
