McCoy: Andy Taking the Fall for Us

POSTED: Thursday, December 20, 2012, 1:23 PM

Will you cheer or boo Andy Reid during the Eagles' final home game on Sunday?
I'll cheer.
I'll boo.
I don't care as long as the Eagles win.

The Eagles can't avoid the inevitable issue of Andy Reid's presumed last home game Sunday after 14 years of coaching the team. They'd like to avoid it -- Reid said Wednesday he hasn't "gone there," and running back LeSean McCoy, when asked Thursday, first declared that he wasn't "thinking like that."

But it bothers Reid's players that he is taking the fall for all of the disappointments of the past few seasons. McCoy said he feels that blame is miscast.

"If you sat here and tried to name 5 to 8 coaches that's better than coach Reid, I would like to hear it," McCoy said. "Coach Reid's a good coach. He gets blamed for everything. Sometimes you break down the film, break down the plays and the mistakes, how do you fault the coach for that?"

The answer there, obviously, is entailed in the response Reid always gives at his day-after news conferences: it's the coach's job to put players in the right positions to do their jobs, in Reid's case, to hire the right players, and then to have them prepared well enough that they don't screw up egregiously.

"I guess people have their own opinions, their minds are made up. The thing about the team is, we know how good a coach he really is," McCoy said. "Whatever happens happens, but I'm behind coach Reid 110 percent. It's the players he's brought here together to play, they weren't a good enough group ... I don't think he should get blamed for the turnovers they caused or the blown (coverages)."

Offensive coordinator Marty Morhinweg said Reid has "Hall of Fame numbers."

***

Special teams coordinator Bobby April said he failed to craft a scheme that played to his charges' strengths. "Maybe I've asked the guys to do something they're not capable of," he said.

April said there is a good chance Bryce Brown will return kickoffs this week, with LeSean McCoy returning at running back

***

Marty Mornhinweg said that with just a few more practice reps, Nick Foles won't display the sloppy mechanics that led to his game-changing interception last Thursday against the Bengals.

***

Defensive coordinator Todd Bowles said Nate Allen, supplanted as a starter, needs to be more vocal, more decisive.

Asked about Nnamdi Asomugha saying the season might have been saved had changes been made earlier, Bowles said if he knew that "I'd be sitting here with a turban and a crystal ball."

McCoy and the rest of this team have taken Reid's post-game posturing for granted. At no point over the past however many season (I'd say last 2-3), have any of the players owned up to their faults/weaknesses. No. They were more comfortable letting their coach take the fall for it, al the while never owning up to their mistakes and/or rising to the ocassion. Grow a pair ladies. I've never seen an Eagles team with less heart/character/soul...heck of a way to "dedicate" your season to Reid's son...LESS TALK, MORE ACTION.

5-to-8 coaches better than Reid? Pretty easy: Bellichik,Payton, Harbaugh (both), Arians, McCarthy, Timlin, Kubiak, Mike Smith. There's nine so far, Sean.

Kubiak sucked for a while before going last year to the playoffs, both Harbaugh's had a team put up, Tomlin was the same the had just won a SB. When Reid got here, "WE WERE THE LAUGHINGSTOCK OF THE NFC EAST".....#JUSTSAYING

In the eight seasons since the Super Bowl, Reid is winning 52% of his games. This is not a streak that leads a coach to the Hall of Fame. In the eight years since Reid led a team to the Super Bowl, the Eagles have won playoff games in two season. Again, this is not information that helps a coach get into the Hall of Fame.

I would fire Roseman first, but Reid needs to go.

I don't fault Andy for the poor individual performance. I do blame him for bringing some of the players here and letting others go. But most of all I blame him for the predictable and ineffective offensive play calling. having attended every home game for the last 12 years, I can alsmost tell you what the next play will be. I can still see Pinkston running down the sideline for a long pass just like I knew That Foules wouls throw the one that was intercepted last Thursday. 4 or 5 yards at a time like Drew Brees does it is so much more effective and by getting rid of the ball quickly the QB does not get hit. I won't mention the times the Eagles should have been running the ball. But Andy wants the big play and it's got to be a pass. However, he has given us a winner for a long time so I will applaud him this Sunday.

There is no doubt that the players have played a major part in this diaster. However, AR's poor handling in many areas is also a major contributor--poor time management, poor play selection, failure to run the ball when it was appropriate, pass-pass-pass, poor personnel management (no kick returner one year, no tight end another year and no middle linebacker another), poor coaching selections since 2004, forcing GM Tom Modrak out of the front office just prior to 2004, passing on obvious draft picks over the years (Jason Whitten, and Pierre to name two), poor communication and people skills with the fans and media and many more bonehead decisions.

Sometimes "Grass aint always greener on the other side". I still Remember the days when Buddy was here and he got kicked out and what happened ? I really don't want Reid to go, i reather have 1 or 2 bad seasons, rebuild and comeback again to good standards than to go over 10-15 without winning a playoff spot. You people wanted McNabb out, and this is what happens. only a winning season and 2 that sucks. Thank you fans, you are to blame here too, not just the organization.

You can't argue with ignorance. Eagles fans, well at least the Dopey 30 types, won't understand what they had in Coach Reid until he's gone. I hope we hire the next Belichick, but the odds are better for us getting the next Kotite. Just saying boys!

You can't argue with ignorance and apologists like "truth" teller01. Reid will be remembered for his arrogance, boneheaded draft picks, lock management failures, moronic/unbalanced/obvious pass happy offense, ridiculous assistant coach selections, his mishandling of the Owens and Dawkins situations, etc., etc. THAT is his legacy. The fact that he went to the dance once and won division titles against weak NFL East Division opponents means absolutely nothing. The sports-challenged owner promised at least one SB. He picked a QB coach to take him to the promised land. He picked wrong and stuck with this mess for 14 years. I blame Laurie as much as I blame the undisciplined fatty on the sidelines.

My answer to the pole question is I DONT CARE....I WONT BE THERE AND WONT SPEND ANOTHER DIME ON EAGLES THIS YEAR. It is pathetic that this season the NFC is wide open and our game means as much as a pre-season game. I hope the Eagles lose to keep the Cowboys out of the play offs.

So we have to loose for Draft Picks and loose to keep the cowboys out? But allow the Giants to barely make it in AGAIN and possibly win another superbowl?
