NFL Network analyst Mike Mayock, a Newtown Square resident, will break down each position in advance of the draft for Daily News readers. Here is his take on the outside linebackers:
BEST
Melvin Ingram
South Carolina
6-1 ½, 264
Arm: 31 ½
40-yard dash: 4.79
225-bench: 28
Projected Rd.: 1 (picks 9-18)
Mayock: ``He’s a freak. His athletic ability to drop in space, to catch the football. . . he could play tight end and be an All-Pro. His footwork, his ability to open his hips and drop, you’re talking about a 265-pound guy who played with his hand in the dirt, who played all over the place for South Carolina. The cool thing about this kid is that no matter what scheme you play, this kid can fit somewhere. With this league being a pass-first league, he’s got some natural pass-rush ability. But he also can drop. So he can play all over the place for a defensive coordinator in sub-packages.’’
RISER
Shea McClellin
Boise State
6-3, 260
Arm: 32 ¾
40-yard dash: 4.63
225-bench: 19
Projected Rd.: 2
Mayock: ``Boise moved him all over the place. Ran a 4.63 forty. Every time I look at him, I think of Mike Vrabel. The 3-4 teams are starting to fall in love with him. He’s a guy who was off the radar, but has steadily moved up every since the Senior Bowl. I think a 3-4 team will take him in the second round, but I wouldn’t be totally surprised to see one at the end of the first round grab him.’’
SLEEPER
Tyler Nielsen
Iowa
6-3 ¾, 238
Arm: 31 ¾
40-yard dash: 4.64
225-bench: 21
Projected Rd.: 5
Mayock: ``Nielsen is very undervalued. He played through some injuries this year. If you didn’t know that, you might not like him. But I think he’s one of the better special teams players in this draft who ultimately might be a starting SAM (strong side) ‘backer in this league. And I think you’ll be able to get him somewhere around the fifth round.’’
why dont they stop calling 3-4 olbs linebackers.or at least do seperate articles for 3-4 &4-3 olbs they do completely different things its like calling tight ends o lineman.melvin ingram and lavonte david both olbs but its comparing apples to oranges Sean s.- I couldn't agree with you more. The analysts, writers, and 'experts' need to up their game. Every offseason I'm digging through the Internet trying to figure out for myself what these clowns don't bother to share cause they feel the need to dumb it down for the audience instead of letting people learn.

Howie are you reading and listening to the NFL pundits ... you should.
God knows considering their assessment and rankings of players cannot be any worse of an approach than the approach the Eagles used in the last 2 drafts. ... Lerze777
These guys are way too big for the EAgles. We need a guy who used to play safety who went to the University of Mcdonalds. Zeru
Mike Mayock from Newtown Square and former Ridley high School football announcer in Folsom, PA, now NFL analyst. My how far we've come Mike! crohnkiller
AH YES, This years flavor of the month TV "expert" reveals his thoughts as the rest of the media fawn all over him.....Mayock following in the footsteps of over blown, self inflated and self hyped Mel Kyper has risen to the top of the charts in knowledge .....Yeah right, one more season of him and his record will be shown to be like Mel's, based more on face time on a network and less time on his comments turning out to be bogus... nuggett- just a thought, but you may want to learn how to spell someone's name (Kiper) before trashing their knowledge...

I predict the Eagles will move up in the 2nd round to grab Mayock's fifth round sleeper because he has a high motor. mikeyhigs
Commentors: does envy or jealousy or whining mean anything to you??? What a miserable group of basement dwellers....get out and feel the fresh air and sunshine and try try try to smile. stoneman

Comment removed.- Stoneman is absolutely right. It's amazing the amount of uninformed, I'll-informed, misinformed negative comments on these boards every freakin' day. Having watched the Eagles for sixty plus years now, I can tell you that I have seen a lot of REALLY BAD football in Philly. I'd like a Super Bowl, too; but I'm thrilled to have a team that can line up with a legitimate chance to win, every Sunday. To Stoneman's point, get a life and enjoy what you have. Trust me, it could be a lot lot worse - you've just been spoiled ...
- Spot on amigo.

Jay Grace should be banned Section 730
I like Ingram I watched him play throughout his Carreer he is a stud of a linbacker if they go after him in the first round i wouldnt be unhappy I would be excited. I still think Safety is a must before linbacker but il take Ingram anyday he played in the SEC so you know he can play with the big dogs, good size, speed and isnt a head case wise choice if they make this move.

DT are boring picks...Give me a great LB making plays all over the field anytime...Sexy and smart pick lewisbratspis
Ingram will be gone around pick 6 or 7. p-diddy
Nugget-give me your top 3 at 5 positions. I will compare your picks to Kiper and Roseman in 2 years. If your picks are worse, I will make you lick Mel's hair and Howie's nickels. tommy_the_k
It has been reported on ESPN that McClellin has already had 3 concussions. The Marco Islander
