Maclin: This Time For Real?

POSTED: Monday, August 3, 2009, 10:24 AM

This evening, the Denver Broncos announced they have reached agreement on a five-year contract with first-round pick Robert Ayers, a defensive end drafted 18th overall, one slot before the Eagles took wideout Jeremy Maclin.

Earlier, a source close to the situation indicated Ayers' signing would be a key step in ending the Maclin impasse.

Maclin has missed more than a week of camp. Previously, deals for other receivers, such as wideout Percy Harvin, taken 22nd by the Vikings, were thought to be keys to getting Maclin done, but Harvin signed Sunday and Maclin did not.

When the Maclin deal is consummated, it likely will be for five years, as well.

From a training perspective, while it may not be called "Camp", training ends Sept 12th. The day before the first game... EJC527, I'll take 5 dimes on the over...

Tell us how many millions of $$ you would leave on the table when it is you at the negotiating table. And if you grew up in Maclin's shoes, I doubt money would be no object. As for missing most of camp, it just started, so get the wedgie out with your thumb and get a clue.

If its so important to the Eagles season, why hasn't Banner done what it takes to get this guy into camp? Not just the player/agent.

Yup. 1/3rd of the first rounders still haven't been signed, so that means they'll all be "wasted picks". Philip Rivers, Julian Peterson, LaDainian Tomlinson, Peyton Manning, Braylon Edwards, Emmitt Smith, Shawne Merriman, Jason Campbell, Steve Young, John Elway, Cory Simon, Cortez Kennedy, Kellen Winslow Jr., Walter Jones, Jeff Hartings, Orlando Pace, Keyshawn Johnson, Edgerrin James... All "wasted picks". They "Enjoyed the Bench" their entire careers. I swear, it's as if some people begin learning about football all over again every year.
