Maclin: This Time For Real?

POSTED: Monday, August 3, 2009, 10:24 AM

This evening, the Denver Broncos announced they have reached agreement on a five-year contract with first-round pick Robert Ayers, a defensive end drafted 18th overall, one slot before the Eagles took wideout Jeremy Maclin.

Earlier, a source close to the situation indicated Ayers' signing would be a key step in ending the Maclin impasse.

Maclin has missed more than a week of camp. Previously, deals for other receivers, such as wideout Percy Harvin, taken 22nd by the Vikings, were thought to be keys to getting Maclin done, but Harvin signed Sunday and Maclin did not.

When the Maclin deal is consummated, it likely will be for five years, as well.

Forget it. No way he contributes in this offense until at least 2010. Maybe have an impact on special teams, but that's it. If he was a true top 10 pick, he would have been taken in the top 10. As the saying goes, you are what your record (or slot) says you are.

Guys..... relax!!! I want the deal done too but..... who can blame a guy for doing what he needs to. It will get done. This is the NFL's fault.... not banners. Its not Maclins either. Who knows.... he may blow a knee in 3 years and will never see a second deal. Who can blame a guy for trying to get his worth. Who can blame a team for trying to pay less. Meanwhile..... we are screwed if Bradley is out for the year. SCREWED!!!!

Blame also goes to his agent.

The over/under for the number of games Maclin dresses for this year is 3.

I see most fans are putting it on the kid, but they should put it on the agents--remember they get at least 3% of whatever deal they agree to. I think in this case, Maclin was touted as having top 10 talent--but he fell to 19th. His agent may think he should deserve top 10 pay.

He'll sign in the next couple of days...Start out the season with punt and kick off return duty, then by mid to late season get some WR duties added! Relax Philly fans... his speed is deadly!! He will break one within his first five touches!!!!
