This evening, the Denver Broncos announced they have reached agreement on a five-year contract with first-round pick Robert Ayers, a defensive end drafted 18th overall, one slot before the Eagles took wideout Jeremy Maclin.

Earlier, a source close to the situation indicated Ayers' signing would be a key step in ending the Maclin impasse.

Maclin has missed more than a week of camp. Previously, deals for other receivers, such as wideout Percy Harvin, taken 22nd by the Vikings, were thought to be keys to getting Maclin done, but Harvin signed Sunday and Maclin did not.

When the Maclin deal is consummated, it likely will be for five years, as well.

Welcome to a full year of punt return duties only - all because your agent wants to save face and could care less less about you the player only cares that his deal is not in line with other players around him.

Man, Negadelphia is up early this AM! Maclin will be great and will get a lot of touches most likely in the 2nd half of the season (secret weapon time). Relax people, Birds will be flying high with or without an immediate contribution from Maclin.

How can anyone say Maclin will be great?? He hasn't shown up yet and everyone is anointing the guy.. He wasn't even in an NFL type offense in college. Do I wish him well? Heck yes, but anointing him as great Not until he shows me something...

5is...90% huh??? Back to 3rd grade for you. See, if camp was 10 days long, and he missed 9 of them, What percentage was lost? You would be correct. But, since he missed a week of drills out of a 7.5 week time table, your percentage seems to be off... Maclin, Go Get Your Money. As much as you can. Don't leave a dime on the table. When you produce on the field, the drunken idiot fans won't even remember you held out. In professional sports, you get paid for what you're going to do, not for what you've done. Sorry BDawk, Sorry Runyan, Sorry Iverson, Sorry T.O.... Teams dont care about what you did last year or any other year before that. They care about this year and next year.

Feel sorry for Maclin, draftpicks holding out is never a good thing. Said it before and am saying it again, the NFL needs to put a ceiling on draft pick pay, this would put an end to thes idiots holding out for money they haven't attempted to earn yet. Be glad I'm not your coach Maclin, doesn't matter how good you really are, you'd be last of the receiver list for the entire season, you may get some playing time on special teams if you show any promiss there. Enjoy the bench rookie!!!

For the last 10 years, he’s been a selector for the Pro Football Hall of Fame. A native of Wilkes-Barre and a graduate of Wilkes University, Domo started his career in Texas, working first for the Midland Reporter-Telegram (1976-78), and then for the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, where he covered some god-awful Texas Ranger baseball teams.
