Lots of QB Queries for Birds; Nothing Close
Les Bowen, Daily News Staff Writer
If there is one day in the NFL year when we ought to be free of worrying about Donovan McNabb and the Eagles, it should be Super Bowl Sunday. Alas, such is not the case.
We've had reports today from ESPN folk who apparently have too much time on their hands, with their network not doing the game. Adam Schefter says teams have asked the Birds about all three of their quarterbacks and three teams have called about Michael Vick. Sal Paolantonio added that three teams -- Cleveland, Denver and Buffalo -- have had multiple conversations with the Eagles about Donovan McNabb.
Don't know the exact teams myself, but I understand there have been a lot of calls, many of them not about any QB in particular, just letting the Eagles know Team X is interested, should they look to deal any of their three. I'm also told nothing is anywhere close to happening, that all of the queries have been preliminary.
This last point canot be overemphasized. NOTHING IS ANYWHERE CLOSE TO HAPPENING.
As you know, Andy Reid has indicated McNabb will be the Eagles' QB in 2010, and McNabb has said this is his strong understanding, as well. Vick has said he would like to go somewhere where he could start, and a few days ago down at South Beach, McNabb endorsed that idea. Kevin Kolb has said he'd like to start, but is a team player, and so forth.
The Vick-to-St. Louis speculation makes a lot of sense to me.
A scource close to the situation thinks at least half a dozen teams ultimately will inquire about Kolb -- including Cleveland, where Tom Heckert, of course, is now the GM, working under Reid's mentor, Mike Holmgren. Almost any team looking to draft a QB this season would be smart to look into Kolb, who presumably wouldn't need several years of training to take over. This is not a great quarterback draft; if Kolb came out this year, he'd almost certainly be a first-rounder. Of course, with McNabb heading toward his 12th season and not under contract after 2010, trading Kolb would be quite a gamble for the Birds.
We now return you to your regularly scheduled Super Bowl XLIV hoopla.
@lonewolf 10 F.Y.I:REAL Sports Fans, you know,THE INTELLIGENT ONES? Don't listen or call into Talk Radio shows. Thought i would share that with you since you seem to lean to the other end of the spectrum. bkg126
Eagles will keep McNabb for another year with Kolb as backup. Donovan is Andy's boy and he's going to stick with him, regardless. Unless Donovan win's it all next year, no contract extension and, Kevin Kolb will be the starting QB for 2011-12. Vick is gone. It's not a question of "if", it's a question of "where" and "for what". Signing Vick was an extremely smart decision by this organization, now I just hope they use the pick to draft a decent defensive player. flyerdup

Question-how many of the posters have ever played football outside of madden? Answer-zero. You all keep calling for Kolb but question: Univ of Houston has produced what good quarterback? Andre Ware? He's a system quarterback. Look at Univ of Houston quarterback this year-put up better numbers than Kolb when he was there. He's a fraud but once we have Ty Detmer part two you'll see the light. kappdoe1476
logic needs to be applied here as well..we have three qbs, assuming the eagles pick up vicks option, which means any team that trades for vick will be on the hook for a qb making 5 million and ten million approx 4 mcnabb and both can walk without a extension, kolb of the three is very tradable per his contract, status etc..the eagles will keep kolb for those very reasons, not to mention his knowledge of the offense and limited success, but succcess in running it,which leaves vick or mcnabb,of the two i believe mcnabb will be moved, age, future contract demands, value at its peak are several of the reasons, the eagles are wanting more wildcat in this offense and vick is the better option for reasons such as,age, athletisicm, contract demand, kolb and vick are the perfect wildcat tandem soliteryman
There is no way we get anything more than a 4th at best for Vick. I'm thinking conditional 5th. Maybe in madden we get a 2nd for him. billyd34
The Eagles will almost certainly trade Vick, which means there's NO WAY that they trade Kolb. Does anyone really think that they would leave McNabb as the only QB, with no younger QB being groomed to step in the next year or two or if McNabb gets hurt???? As I said before, the only way they trade 2 QBs is if it is McNabb and Vick, leaving Kolb as the starter and bringing in Garcia or another veteran as Kolb's back up. eaglzflyrz1
Manning, the best quarterback in the league, just lost the superbowl for his team. Granted he did win a superbowl a few years ago, but he didn't play particularly well. If Peyton wore Eagles green, he'd be hanging from the Walt Whitman Bridge right now. Let the Kolb Era begin if you'd like, but don't come back here crying if we don't make it to the playoffs next year. You can't have it both ways crybabies. reggiedunlop- After seeing the game tonight it would be refreshing to see a guy behind center who is accurate and gets rid of the ball quickly, which would rule out McNabb and Vick. The jury is still out on Kolb.
The people who comment hear are much like investors in the stock market...mostly wrong. ceocreates
JD Newhaven: McNabb won't bring a first. Vick not worth a 2. The talk show host isn't married to Matt - its his brother Tim. Ohhh, and New Haven sucks. Other than that, great post. dragoon6
Lonewolf is actually married to Rhea Hughes!!! That explains all the McNabb bashing this idiot does. somertonspartan- LoneCOWGIRLSFANwolf. THE COWGIRLS LOST...GET OVER IT AND WE DON'T CARE WHAT DALLAS RADIO SAYS!!!!!
where's that article where the nit wit said QB's only come from certain states...what happened tonight shot that theory to hell!!! fly4philly
McNabb isn't going anywhere...get over it. Other teams may have called and asked if McNabb is available....if that's your definition of a "conversation" about McNabb, then that's just something to create headlines. Teams call other teams all the time to inquire if guys are available....that doesn't mean the team is looking to trade the guy though. JimG
