Kendra and Hank do Vegas; Kolb does fishing

POSTED: Monday, May 25, 2009, 6:12 PM

Figured we would catch up on a few Eagles-related items that we saw over the holiday weekend before the team's rookies and selected veterans head back to the practice field on Tuesday for four days of minicamp ... Some you might have seen and some you might have missed ... Enjoy

* We know you are sitting there wondering what Hank Baskett and Kendra Wilkinson did for the Memorial Day weekend. The wedding is about a month away; Kendra's new reality show on E! debuts June 7. Well, we'll tell you. Hank and Kendra and fellow "Girl Next Door" Holly Madison hosted a pool party at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, according to the folks at Enterainment Tonight online and VegasNews.com.

We provide the VegasNews.com link, because we figure some of you might be more interested in the pictures than the words.

* With his weekend off before returning to camp, Kevin Kolb returned to his native Texas to compete in a fishing tournament with a friend. The tournament drew 400 anglers to Lake Whitney. Kolb, who grew up in Stephenville, is an avid outdoorsman. (You might recall the story of his hunting boar with a knife that he once told Les Bowen.)

"We pre-fished last week," Kolb said in a telephone interview, "and we caught some really good fish. ... Shoot, who knows? We’ve got as good a shot as anybody. We’ve just got to go out there and get it done."

Kolb also told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram's Charean Williams some of the things that caused a bit of a stir among some of the local media last week.

"The next step for me is getting out there and catching back up with the speed, and there’s lessons that I need to learn on the field," Kolb said. "I’ve done enough in the books; I’ve done enough in practice. I’m ready to get on the field and learn those lessons on the field."

* NFL.com's Pat Kirwan provided his preseason power rankings. He has the Eagles at No. 3 and poised for a run at the Super Bowl. Kirwan has the defending champion Steelers at the top, followed by New England.

Of the Eagles, he writes: "The offseason put two new offensive tackles on the roster, and insured the pass protection and run blocking will be excellent. Donovan McNabb has plenty of targets to throw to and finally there is a quality running back in LeSean McCoy to back up Brian Westbrook. Despite playing in a tough division, the Eagles appear poised for a run at Super Bowl XLIV."

Kirwan has the Giants at No. 4, followed by Indianapolis. Dallas is ranked 14th and Washington is at No. 21.

* ESPN.com's Matt Mosley thinks the Eagles would consider signing linebacker/defensive end Greg Ellis, if he is released by the Cowboys. We are not so sure about that one. Ellis had 36 tackles and eight sacks last season in Dallas.

Writes Mosley: "I think the Eagles would consider adding another defensive end if the right guy becomes available. It wouldn't surprise me at all if Andy Reid tried to sign Greg Ellis if he's released by the Cowboys. He's scheduled to make $4.15 million this season, but there's no way he sees that money. It's far more likely that a team such as the Patriots, Bengals, Eagles, Panthers or Redskins sign him for somewhere in the $2 million range. Ellis could start at defensive end for several teams in the league, but his time as a starter at outside linebacker in Dallas has come to an end."

* The Washington Times writes about Byron Westbrook, younger brother of the Eagles start running back. Byron has been on the Redskins' practice squad for 2 years and NFL rules say he cannot return for a third. He either needs to make the team or will be waived.

"I don't want to go nowhere," Westbrook told the Times. "I'm a hometown guy. I'm a Redskin at heart. I love the guys here. Hopefully everything works out for me. But in the end, if the opportunity isn't here for me, it will be - somewhere else."

Everything Kirwan says is true, but wtf about the $8 million tax dispute between Lurie and the city? That could diminish the bandwagon effect late in the season and really hurt AR's squad.

Steelers were lucky last year to win with poor coaching in the Super Bowl. If they don't change the D at the start of the 4th quarter the game is never close. Eagles will win it all this year if McNabb can get it done. Maybe he can?

Who cares about Baskett (who can't win a starting job) and his used-up looking pop-tart girlfriend. Is this really news? Gee, wonder why the Inquirer is broke?

We don't need another DE. We need Abiamiri to play to his potential. With him and Cole starting and then backup with Parker, Clemons, Howard and possibly Bryan Smith, that's plenty of depth. The focus should be on getting a proven Tight End to compliment Celek. Tim R...don't hate on Baskett because he scored a playmate. This is a blog-fyi- not a news story, get it?

Buckhalter wasn't a 'quality' backup RB?

Eagles issue with the city means nothing. The city owes the Eagles too. Both sides agreed to that and the city doesn't want to work out another number. They are facts. They said they would repay the Eagles their money only AFTER the Eagles pay up. This is the city that takes pride on taking from those that have and giving it to their over rated government officials. PAY THE CITY NOTHING until they work out the mutial number. When the city claims bankruptcy, the will welch on their end of the deal.

Kendra has proven that you can literally be dumb as a f-ing tree stump and still be rich, so long as you die your hair blonde and get a good breast augmentation. To see her on the television is just sickening. To have my daughter think that someone like that is somebody you'd like to imitate or look up to is enough to make a parent's skin crawl. I'm still trying to find something about her that is admirable, and I haven't found it yet. She really is about as dumb as dumb gets.

McNabb is not a hall of fame QB UNLESS he knocks off a couple of SB wins late in his career like Elway did, then he is in. However, he is something the Kolb will never be - a franchise QB and clearly the best QB in Eagles history. PERIOD
