Kelce: Now I Know How Fans Feel

POSTED: Thursday, September 27, 2012, 1:27 PM

Jason Kelce did not have fun, watching the Eagles from afar Sunday.

"Watching the games give you a lot more respect for what the fans go through," the Eagles' center said Thursday, his right knee swathed in a brace. Kelce said his ACL surgery, by team orthopedist Dr. Peter DeLuca, is tentatively scheduled for Oct. 18. "When you're in the game, you have an active control over what happens every single play. You know what's going wrong, what the coaches are saying. You know how to fix things. When you're watching, you can't do anything. What are they doing? Why are they doing this? It's not fun at all.

"I don't even know why fans watch the games."

Kelce said he thought in Sunday's loss, sub center Dallas Reynolds "did a good job, especially for the position he was put in," on the road, in a loud dome against a physical, aggressive defense that blitzed constantly. "The mistakes that were made were very correctable mistakes," he said. "And I don't think that his mistakes were what led to the outcome of the game."

Kelce said he hopes to be able to participate in noncontact minicamps next spring and be full-go by training camp.

Special teams coordinator Bobby April said he isn't ready to replace rookie punt returner Damaris Johnson with DeSean Jackson, even though Johnson lost a fumble at Arizona and has fielded punts too close to his goalline two weeks in a row.

"Not at this point," April said. "We think Damaris is good. He's made a couple of mistakes, but we've already paid for those. We've paid our tuition, we've got our education -- I think he's going to be good. I think he's going to be fine. Can we afford for him to continue making the same mistakes? Of course not."

Offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg had a strong reaction to suggestions the Eagles might need to be more conservative in their offensive approach, after turning the ball over 12 times in three games.

"We go after people, now. We're aggressive," Mornhinweg said.

He said the imbalance in the first=half offense at Arizona had to do with not having that many snaps, and many of them coming in the final drive, inside two minutes, that resulted in Michael Vick's disastrous fumble.

Defensive coordinator Juan Castillo said he talked to rookie DT Fletcher Cox about migraines, after Cox was limited at Arizona and missed practice Wedneday. Castillo said Cox told him the issue arose in college and treatment was always successful there, so Castillo figures it will be this week, as well.

Who ever is returning, can they be reminded not to field anything inside the ten, and to hold on to the ball.
    Thanks.

I don't think Jackson needs to be back there for every punt but they should put him back there periodically when they are in need of a good return. Gotta find more ways to get him the ball.

This is the closest we'll ever get to an apology for Kelce's antics when the fans had the "Fire Andy" sign outside of NovaCare. Betcha he wanted to scream run the dang ball that first half, too.

Uhhh - shouldn't the Eagle's brain trust have known about Cox's migraine history?

COM great point on migraine.....kind of points to lack of due diligence on the part of scouting and personnel departments. Yup that's seems on par from what we've seen last decade.

Reid went out and hired extras from the Half baked sequel to block for Micheal Vick and never thought to draft some capable backups.

About 75% of the nfl's starting defensive tackles and ends can press 225 about 30 times and run a 40 within 4.6 and under and we got jack black and silent bob playing center and tackle on our starting o line...

    75% of the NFL DT's DO NOT run the 40 under 4.6...You won't find 5....Regarding 225 over 30 times...try 25%, IF YOU'RE LUCKY.

o-line stinks.....Dunlap and Bell simply cannot play....the mouth Mathias can thank Jason for his contract, Dallas is a taxi squader at best....Watkins is a mistake and is a 3rd rounder at best.....and we wonder why Vick wants to run....He is the only chance since we dont call screens or quick slants....and he knows it and so do every teams DC...AR must go and he can take JC and MM with him......and watch SD do a fade...

Cosigns@Nuggett.. We could have had two studs in the draft at oline but we have this history of overthinking the pick and taking the player nobody else wanted thinking we can turn a undesirable into a gem for the system. Well.. that recipe only works when your system is lightyears better than every one else's. With Jim Johnson gone that philosophy no longer works.. And with Howard Mudd.. I dont know if his system is overrated or if the talent the eagles are allowing him to choose sucks.. or maybe a combination of both.

@Bearsfriend.. The defensive ends do. And some rival the speeds of wideouts. Jevon Kearse is no longer a freak because most of the ends can do what he does. as far as Tackles most of the top flight start quality ones have a combination of speed and power that nobody's rookie 6th round pick or rookie free agent level talent should be trying to block. You can argue what you want to argue but didnt our own rookie defensive tackle run a 4.7 in the 40? The point is Bears.. these dudes suck

My God, you people are ridiculously negative. Eagles are 2 -1 last I checked. The defense has played really well overall. And the offense has moved the ball. Bottom line: the turnovers are killing us. But we're still 2 -1. We easily could be 0 - 3 but we're not. There were two pretty impressive comebacks in game one and two. That shows a lot of resiliency and mental and physical toughness. The offensive line lost a road-grader in Peters but Dunlap played pretty well until he went down. Kelsey is an excellent center and he went down too. The offensive line doesn't suck, they're just in a tough spot. Last year, people were raving about the line. Well we lost two important components but the rest of the guys are the same. Since we don't have much choice... let's wait and see. I think Andy Reid is a pretty smart guy. He's done pretty well over the years and this years draft was excellent. This team doesn't suck, you guys who want to immediately bury the team after 3 games do!

@Birdinparadise.. Why the insult? Is Jason Kelse your father Luke?

@1983ufgator.. Lets be honest man... Jason Kelse sucks. His entire claim to fame is two things. He's quick to run out and pull on running plays "on the edges". And he is the hand picked guy by Howard Mudd. But if you actually watch the games he is handed his lunch every single game he has played. Being pushed into his qb and misses assignments ALOT. Other than that he is great..
