Jacksonville interested in Lito

POSTED: Monday, April 28, 2008, 1:28 PM

There's still a good possibility that Eagles cornerback Lito Sheppard will be traded before this weekend, when the Eagles will hold their post-draft minicamp.

According to league sources, Sheppard's agent, Lamont Smith, has had extensive conversations with the Jacksonville Jaguars about a possible offer for his client. The Jags, who are trying to make their defense as Peyton Manning-proof as possible, were interested in Sheppard before the draft. But their first-round trade-up with Baltimore to get defensive end Derrick Harvey cost them two third-round picks and a fourth-round selection, leaving them with just two picks in the first four rounds.

Because of that, they weren't willing to part with their second-round pick, which they spent on another defensive end, Auburn's Quentin Groves, in a deal for Sheppard.

But Smith is trying to broker a deal that would have the Jags giving the Eagles a package of '09 draft picks for Sheppard.

Asked Sunday night whether he expects Sheppard to play for the Eagles in '08, coach Andy Reid said: ``As I sit here right now, Lito is an Eagle. That's how it is, just like every other guy on this football team.

``It gives us one great opportunity for a nice secondary. The way to use him is just like we used (former Eagle cornerbacks) Bobby Taylor, Al Harris and Troy Vincent. We just rotated all of them and they were all starters in our eyes.''

why would you trade a probowl player for a second round choice. instead of the db who were drafted on saturday in the first round why wouldn't a team want a sure probowl player instead of the db that went saturday one from troy a small school another cromatrie living off his cousin name a lot of mixed review on kid from kansas why not a sure thing anything less than a first round and lito stays even if he sits,he sign a contract and he must live up to it or sit

I would keep Lito. Play hardball. He owes Philly for dogging it last year. Let him sit out if he wants. He'll get $0 instead of $2M

I wouldn't trade Lito. To quote a famous ex-Eagle, "for who, for what?"

could anyone promise me that the defense back drafted on saturday will be better than lito, why do the eagles feel they have to give him away only a top player , at a position of need or he sits here and doesnt play players dont run the league the owners have to stand pat and let the players know that they sign a contract they must honor it or sit.

Keep Lito unless we can work a deal for a primo WR! The Eagles are wasting McNabb...He's going to be good this year, but he'll have no one open to throw to...

rockym, the period key is located to the left of the question mark key on your keyboard. The question mark looks like this: ? The period is simply a little dot that I will put at the end of this sentence. <--- it's right there and here's another ---> .

Lito should have his contract redone so that he feels that the Eagles are committed to him. The Eagles certainly have the money since they don't have to pay anyone first round money. Who wants Jacksonville's picks? They are a good team and their picks would be lousy. With Lito, the Eagles could have a great defense this year. You could also move Sheldon Brown into a safety spot. Brown tackles well and can deliver a good lick. Ask Reggie Bush. With the type of coverage we could throw on the field combined witha decent pass rush we could dominate. What if Brown or Samuel or Dawkins gets banged up? Lito would probably like Jacksonville since he comes from there.

Rocky, The fact is, Lito is injury prone and unless he can prove he can stay healthy, he is only worth a 2nd round pick. At this point, teams don't even want to give up a 2nd rounder for him, so I suggest we take what we can get for him.

With Lito in the secondary, we would have the most fearsome tandems in the secondary....Lito in the right CB position, Sheldon in SS position Dawkins in FS and then Asante in left CB. They shouldn't trade Lito for any 2009 draft picks.

To me it makes no sense to trade Lito for future draft picks, unless we already have a deal in place to trade those picks for a veteran receiver. I've got a Pro-bowl player in hand. I'm not interested in betting on a kid coming out of college next year.

Hahah Drizzal, Good one! Let's take a shot at 09'. I hope the Panthers flop and we get a top pick next year. Anyone know who is out there?
